It was all the rage on twitter last night, Oldham Council has launched a contest to name its new gritting lorry. Personally I thought that the suggestion "Kerb Crawler" was the best choice. But it appears that the popular vote is going for Gary Gritter. Apparently it prefers working on minor roads. Amid this festival of tastelessness there is a serious point.
Some official at Oldham Borough Council spent taxpayer funded time thinking up this contest, organising it, sending out the tweet and will then judge the winner.
Barely a day goes by without some Labour run council warning that because of the evil Tories and dreadful austerity it is having to house its old people in pig stys or force its lollipop ladies to double shift as dustmen. Yet they still have time and money for this sort of nonsense?
