My father...complications emerge

The news from Warwick Hospital I was rather dreading came through an hour or so ago..there have been complications at around lunchtime today. I will not go into details as they are, as my father would say, not the sort of thing a gentleman discusses in public.

It was only yesterday that I saw him, a day after his op, sitting in a chair in Intensive Care while in all the other beds lay patients wired up to numerous machines and looking as if they were in a bad way indeed.

My father said "I think I will be coming home on Friday". I know him too well so asked "and how many doctors have told you this?" Er.... my father mumbled something about how he was a doctor of philosophy and how a Greats man can turn his hand to anything. By yesterday evening emails were coming from siblings about how Dad was coming home on Friday. It was clear that others had not quizzed the old man in a bit more detail.

But that is the way with these things, the complications can occur days after the operation. As one of life's pessimists I always feared this would happen and that we were celebrating too early.

The next couple of days are now critical. I am minded to nip up to Warwick tomorrow before heading back for UK Investor Show on Saturday. But pro tem my father is stable so I just await developments and try to complete a 900 word report for the show where the deadline was an hour ago.
