Islington dwelling daughter Olaf seems to be in charge of securing public speakers for a posh girls school debating forum. She asked if I knew any funny and controversial speakers. I offered up friends such as James Delingpole of Breitbart and Dominic Frisby but was told that they were Alt-Right, fascists or just not acceptable. I am sure you get the picture. In this world anyone to the right of the Guardian is Alt-Right and should not be offered a platform
As it happens I have swapped a few emails with the great LGBTI and civil liberties campaigner Peter Tatchell so suggested his name. Natch he was deemed ideal so I set to work begging Tatch, offering a donation to his foundation, nudging the school to reply and in the end we have a date in the diary when the great man, who is indeed a national treasure, will explain what free speech and freedom really means to Olaf and her peers.
Having worked damn hard on this for Olaf, I asked if I could come along and Olaf said yes but….
I can attend as long as I promise not to say anything to anyone and to abide by a dress code she has set. That is to say I could wear a dress. Or a Burka. But not a “Make America Great Again” baseball cap and not my Hillary for Prison 2016 T-shirt.
You know what, I reckon young Ms Winnifrith needs to pay careful attention to what Mr Tatchell has to say on the issue of freedom and I would not want to distract her.

I cannot but help think that underneath it all Sadiq Khan is a pretty decent fellow. And all too often, as on knife crime in stab City, he is blamed unfairly for the manifest failings of others. But he does have a penchant for wasting other folks cash on pointless virtue signalling, such as the survey showing how racist cycling was, and when it comes to free speech he does apply a bit of a double standard. A case in point was the Trump blimp flown in London yesterday.
I regard the blimp as silly and offensive to a man who was democratically elected to lead the country which is our biggest export market and our most important ally - the US helped us in the Falklands War while our EU "allies" supplied armaments to the Argies. But it is okay to offend. The protesters wanted to make a, childish, point let them do so. Many of us were offended by it and frankly embarrassed that the hatred it stirred up meant that the US embassy had to warn Americans living in London to keep a low profile.
Asked why he did not ban the blimp, Mayor Khan quite rightly said that it was not up to him to decide what was offensive. Spot on Mr Mayor. Except that Mayor Khan has in the past banned certain billboards such as the one below because they were offensive. I think the one below offended women who were lardbuckets and resented the implication that their bodies might not look as good on the beach as the babe below. Which, of course, they don't.
Mayor Khan, you cannot have it both ways.

I support free speech. Folks can say whatever they like. But equally I own and run this website and am not compelled to publish anything here on the site or in the comments section below. Two of my daughter's Godparents have very few relatives indeed as a result of Jew haters 70 years ago. My right not to afford a platform to those who accuse "The Jewish army of genocide" in Gaza or who question the victim status of the Jews in the holocaust is not in conflict with my belief in free speech. If you are a Jew hater who are stupid to understand that here is a cartoon to explain...
We hope that this explains the concept of free speech to Bulletin Board Morons.

I've always hard a soft spot for Shania Twain - great looks, great songs and then this morning she said that had she been an American, not from the Socialist hell hole that is Canada, she would have voted for Donald Trump in 2016. Shania, thought I, you really are the one. Someone in the liberal world of entertainment who dares to praise a conservative, let alone Trump faces career ruination and so Shania risked a lot.
Predictably the liberals took to social media and pretty soon it became clear that poor Shania was being viewed as a homo hating, immigrant bashing piece of white trash and thus within eight hours she was forced to apologise to anyone she had offended while stressing that she loved everyone on this planet and rejected the politics of hate, yadda, yada, yadda.
Natch the BBC, CNN and the rest of the liberal media creamed themselves. They get to engage in another bout of Trump bashing and report on a cowardly conservative at the same time. Tim Allen got fired by ABC for being a Trump supporter, Shania was forced to grovel, in such a Mcarthyite atmosphere in the performing arts it is genuinely shocking when anyone even remotely right of centre dares to admit to it.
Just when was it that the liberal left decided that freedom of opinion and of speech was such a terribly bad idea?

Across the West the story is the same. Offended snowflakes object - or in some cases far worse - and craven academics cancel events or no platform speakers. This is a matter I am now all too familiar with after giving this most excellent talk at Bath Spa University. It is surely only a matter of time before some liberal arts faculty somewhere organises a book burning. Today's demonstration of the Orwellian nature of the liberal arts campus of today comes from McMaster University in Hamilton Canada.
For years, as the great Mark Steyn has discovered to his cost, the Canadian thought police have been out to stifle free speech but under the ludicrous clown Justin Trudeau life in the socialist hell hole to the North of the land of the free has got much worse.
And thus over at McMaster the anti-poverty group Overcome the Gap organised a panel discussion “Tolerating Intolerance: A Discussion on Free Speech.”
Naturally there were complaints from those who find the idea of a discussion on free speech where one of the panellist was a conservative thinker. There were not a lot of complaints but a few and therefore the discussion on free speech has had to be cancelled because of “concerns about the safety of the event.”
In 1984, sorry 2018, in La La Campus land you cannot discuss free speech because that might offend someone. Monty Python could not have made up anything so ridiculous. Time and again these episodes demonstrate two things: one is the intolerance of too many students to those who have ideas which conflict with what they regard as "settled", ideas outside a very narrow mindset. The second is the sheer cowardice of academics who simply do not dare stand up to the intolerant bedwetting millennials.
To those academics, with apologies to Pastor Niemoller:
First they came for the conservatives and I did nothing because I hate the fucking Tories too...
Then they came for the University Christian Society claiming it was homophobic and I did nothing because anyone who believes in the sort of old fashioned nonsense gets what they deserve
Then they came for gay rights and feminist icons Peter Tatchell and Germaine Greer for daring to question the new trans agenda and I did nothing because I was too busy reading the Guardian
Then they came for me for not giving them a 2-1 as was their human right even though they had done no work at all and were very stupid and there was no-one left to speak for me

I used to host events for, I think, the Kings College Libertarian Society when I owned a restaurant nearby. I am a libertarian and I also believe in free speech which means that all sides need to be allowed a platform, even those with whom you disagree. But as I have found to my own cost in recent months, on campuses across the UK free speech is under real threat from the extreme left. And truth is the first casualty. Anyone with whom the left disagrees is "Alt Right" even though we libertarians clearly are not. But who cares? For some of those on the left it is now acceptable to tell lies to shut down those with whom you disagree. You would have thought that academic staff would fight such bullying to protect the integrity of academia. Sadly that is not always the case.. The video below tells the tale of the battle of King's College.

If there is one man who deserves a New Year's honour in 2018 it is the veteran LGBT and free speech campaigner Peter Tatchell. He will not be on a list packed with airhead celebs, sporting cheats, party donors and professional arse-lickers to the establishment. For, like me, Tatch is a Republican and so has refused honours for that reason and because he, rightly, views the system as rotten and corrupt.
What makes Tatchell a national treasure is that he never feels bound to any party line. Thus he has been no platformed by snowflake students for his failure to toe the line on transgender issues. Who in their right mind could view Tatchell as a bigot yet he finds himself lumped in with the rest of us for saying it as it is.
And thus today he has tweeted to amongst others the half-witted Guardian big mouth Owen Jones, loathsome unfunny comedian Russel Brand and lefty singer Billy Bragg on the matter of sexual harassment.
Some commentators have expressed more outrage over a hand wrongly placed on a woman's knee than about the mass sexual abuse of working-class girls in Rotherham & elsewhere. Both abusive but double standards & middle class bias. @OwenJones84 @PennyRed @rustyrockets @billybragg
Spot on once again Mr Tatchell.

Starting (natch) in the US women are being urged to boycott twitter for a day because it is sexist, oppressive, full of nasty men who want to exploit them like Harvey Weinstein and Bill Clinton, etc. Okay I made that up about Harvey and Bill. Let's not talk about Democrat rapists and just stick to the narrative that Republican men oppress and Democrats all liberate. Natch it is the left which is pushing this boycott. The wonderful Ann Coulter and, almost as wonderful, Laura Ingraham are not taking part.
Perhaps that is because those of us on the right are so tired of being hectored by the left and told that "you can't say that" or "this is settled science you can't argue" and other such calls to shut up and refuse to challenge the fascist liberal orthodoxy that has taken over the media and campuses across the West, that they aren't going to shut up now.
On the right we believe in free speech and are confident that our ideas can survive the forensic scrutiny of debate. On the left there seems a terror of debate, of exposing theories such as marxism, the benefits of multiculturalism or global warming to "inconvenient truths" or facts as they were known before we entered a post fact era. It is no surprise that those on the left are today advocating that women claim victim status and respond with silence.
Next step, let's all go light some fucking candles.

This is a bit sensitive as the Mrs is a senior lecturer at Bath Spa. This morning I wished her well as she headed off to campus to fill the empty heads of impressionable millennials full of left wing nonsense and told her that I hoped she enjoyed the book burning or whatever else was planned by her cowardly employer today. For Bath Spa is in the news.
Therapist James Caspian paid Bath Spa (until 2005 a college of Higher Education) to do a thesis on people who decide to reverse gender reassignment operations, what is termed " "detransition" in the politically correct Newspeak of 2017. Caspian is no dangerous evil right winger but is a counsellor who specialises in therapy for transgender people. He had observed a number of men who had had their gonads chopped as part of becoming women and then opted to reverse that call. Data suggests that c5% of trans folks decide to detransition.
If 5% make that amazing decision I wonder how many others consider it? We are constantly told by the trans community that they are imprisoned in the wrong body and all have a right to trans. Frankly that may or may not be the case but surely the incidence of detransitioning and contemplation of detransitioning is a worthwhile study. To ignore it seems wrong. But Bath Spa has now told Mr Caspian that he cannot do his study.
He stated that"The fundamental reason given was that it might cause criticism of the research on social media and criticism of the research would be criticism of the university and they also added it was better not to offend people," and Bath Spa appears not to disagree.
In the past, Universities encouraged debate, free speech and academic enquiry. No doubt some folks were offended by suggestions that the earth was not flat or that man was not created in seven days by God. Would Bath Spa have shut down research which investigated alternative theories too? Its decision is sheer cowardice by an institution obsessed with political correctness.
One can only imagine that the decision to detransition is the most appalling one to make. If academic research might allow fewer folks to suffer such torment what is to be lost in pursuing it?
I trust that Mr Caspian will be drummed off campus in a torchlight parade tonight while his research notes are thrown onto a fire also containing the books of Germaine Greer and anyone else questioning the one true narrative when it comes to transexuals. It would be offensive to allow any further debate on the matter.

The Guardian newspaper recently produced a list of folks, statues of whom it thought suitable to replace that of Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square. Nelson may have saved the nation, given his life for his country but a speech in favour of slavery in the House of Lords means he is toast. The only question is who is next for the fascist liberal left to erase from history? I suggest George Washington, he may have founded a nation and all that but - like all his peers - he was also a slave owner. That will be his undoing. So who replaces Nelson?
You will not have heard of most of the list which is overwhelmingly female, non-white or gay or usually at least two of three. Diversity Guardian style means no straight, white men. One non straight white male nominated is the heroic gay rights and free speech campaigner Peter Tatchell. As a republican Tatch has several times turned down CBE,s etc. I hope he'd argue against a statue on similar grounds.
Of the non-entities nominated by the Guardian, Tatch would get my vote. I somehow doubt that 100 years after Tatch goes to a better place a future heroic President of South Africa and man who did more to fight racism than all the Guardian's editorial team, will be named Tatchell but Peter, though no Nelson, is, at least, a contemporary hero. Today he tweets on gay rights in Africa and is half right.
Of course, for Africa to be liberated and free that must encompass full equality and liberty for the LGBTI community. On that we can agree. But then Tatch goes for a bit of Imperialist Britisher bashing. Yes the anti LGBTI laws in some African countries went on the statute as those were the laws in Britain at the time. But before we evil Britishers arrived were these places gay friendly paradises? Of course not.
There would not have been laws in a written statute against homosexuality before the evil British arrived as there were no written statutes on anything but you can bet your bottom dollar that Greek love was not only not tolerated but was dealt with in a far more brutal manner than it was back in Blighty.
The idea that we imposed our mores on the otherwise enlightened Africans is laughable. The fact that 50 years after Silverman and the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Britain, gays are still prosecuted in Africa is a result of innate cultural prejudices in Africa that were there before the evil Britishers and are still there decades after we left.
Tatch is on this occasion just a colonial with a chip on his shoulder.

I have noted many times before how free speech no longer exists on campuses across the West. If you pursue a politically correct strict liberal orthodoxy you can say what you want. Anything goes. All men are animals and wannabe rapists, white folks must be ashamed of all their crimes and so are innately evil racists. Heterosexuals should be under-represented in Parliament. Trans is the new normal. Its okay to say you want to assassinate President Trump. The Jewish state acts like Nazis and has no right to exist. All those statements are, to me, obscene and/or untrue but on campuses across Britain and the US they are repeated and accepted as fine every day.
Those who dare to disagree whether they be evil conservatives such as Ann Coulter or uber-liberals like Germaine Greer or the great Peter Tatchell ho just slipped up (usually on Trans issues) then you get no platformed. Try saying something really controversial like the British Empire did a lot of good (which it did), Britain did more to abolish slavery than any African state has ever done (again true) or that climate change is pure fiction (which it is) and as an academic, your career is toast even if the remarks are made in private.
The latest lunacy comes from Edinburgh where a spiky law student Robbie Travers responded to news that the Americans just dropped a vast bomb on ISIS fighters with a facebook post: "Excellent news that the US administration and Trump ordered an accurate strike on an IS network of tunnels in Afghanistan. “I’m glad we could bring these barbarians a step closer to collecting their 72 virgins.”
You and I might say "spot on" - I find it hard to disagree with the view that the only good ISIS fighter is a dead ISIS fighter. The acts committed by ISIS over the past few years are the acts of barbarians. Think of the beheadings, think of burning folks alive in cages or immersing a cage full of prisoners into a swimming pool and filming the poor men as they drown. Think about the mass rape and enslavement of thousands of captured women. Think of the poor homosexuals chucked off the top of buildings. ISIS are barbarians and they do believe that the reward for their barbarity is to go to heaven to shag 72 virgins. So any rational person would agree that Mr Travers is bang on the money. At the very least he has a right to such an opinion.
Oh no. Step forward Esme Allman a second-year history student and the former black and ethnic minority convenor of the university’s students’ association, who filed a complaint to the university, saying: “Not only do I believe this behaviour to be in breach of the student code of conduct, but his decision to target the BME Liberation Group at the University of Edinburgh, and how he has chosen to do so, puts minority students at risk and in a state of panic and fear while attending the University of Edinburgh.”
The University said that it would investigate poor Mr Travers for a hate crime. He then inflamed the situation by posting a note saying "black men are trash". Got him. Fair cop. The guy is a bigot. Send him down. Oh hang on. In fact it was Ms Allman who posted on her facebook site "To conclude, black men are trash. All men are trash." Mr Travers merely pointed out that she has posted this rubbish. This got him reported again by Ms Allman who said "Travers published a decontextualised quote by Allman from a privileged conversation generated by minority students in a safe space he is neither subscribed to nor a member of, without her consent."
Aha so it is okay to make a bigoted comment in a private group (not sure your facebook page counts as such) as that is not a problem. Really? One assumes that Ms Allman would be fine with the Klu Klux Klan organising at Edinburgh as long as all their comments were made in a "safe space" private forum? Of course she would not. She has been exposed as a serial spouter of shite.
But in taking this appalling young woman seriously and in investigating Travers for his original remark celebrating the demise of the ISIS barbarians Edinburgh shows how again how the liberal left world of academia has completely abandoned all ideas of supporting free speech or indeed of common sense.
And it is in this brave new world in which our kids are apparently being taught how to think for themselves. Once again I despair.

So much for free speech and the left. A group of high school students were on a day out in Washington DC. one of the girls in the group was wearing a Donald Trump baseball cap and another a T shirt proclaiming her support for POTUS as you can see below. Then, after a hassle free day, they visited Howard University.
Howard promotes diversity by being 86% African American and one student, Essence Dalton, quickly tweeted a complaint about “whitey girls tryna be problematic”. I can see that Essence is heading for honours in her English classes.
The University authorities acted quickly asking the High School students to leave and the Howard University Dining Twitter account then wrote: “We will take any action necessary to ensure that HU students feel safe & comfortable in our dining spaces. This group is no longer on campus.”
One of the charming girls on the trip to DC from New Jersey says that the offending MAGA hat was stolen and recounts
“We had never even engaged with the students. Half of us weren’t even through the doors yet. Fortunately one of our supervisors was able to retrieve it. We were harassed continuously. The students took videos and pictures of us saying WE were being ‘disrespectful’, and that ‘us being caucasian, we should have known better’.
After a lot of hate, our head supervisors decided it would be a good idea to keep the peace and find somewhere else to eat. When we got on the bus, a girl from Central Tech told us to ‘remove our hats because we are racist’.
This is America. These are the people who are racist and disrespectful. It’s unfortunate that more Trump supporters have to fear going places than others. I will never be embarrassed for supporting Donald Trump. I will always support OUR president when, and wherever, I please.”
What a girl! Campuses in both America and Britain are now perhaps the most intolerant places one can find, that is unless you happen to buy into the prevailing liberal orthodoxy. If you deviate by admitting you vote "the wrong way" that is racist and an offence. Or, if like poor Germaine Greer, you are foolish enough to suggest that a trans person who has become a female is not the same as someone born female, you are no platformed at once.
George Orwell would be so proud of us all.

Much of what makes me despair about life in this country appeared just before 9 AM on BBC Radio 4's flagship fake news programme Today. It started with a segment on global warming...
In that piece a reporter looked at power stations belching our carbon and asserted that this caused climate change and that as a result on the meadows in front of him the wildlife diversity was changing. Some species were disappearing and new ones were arriving. Then he rolled back over the past few thousand years and discussed how the climate and landscape and wildlife diversity had changed many times in relatively recent history. And, though he failed to note this critical point, it had done so without any contribution from mad made carbon emissions.
None the less for the BBC this is not a logical flaw to be discussed it is just glossed over. The liberal establishment just KNOWS that THIS TIME it is different and whilst God caused all other periods of dramatic climate change, this time it just has to be man. We are now far more powerful than nature and its cycles.
Just when I thought it could get no worse John Humphries piped up with a section on the threat posed to Britain by the extreme right. His guest was Paul Stocker, a Research Associate in Fascist Studies at the prestigious academic hothouse that is the University of Teesside. I bet his students get a high quality balanced education and emerge with degrees that leave them well placed to thrive in the private sector. And to think that Mr Stocker only got a 1% pay rise this year plus grade increments fir all his valuable work.
Stocker has written a book called the English Uprising and this was linked to the threat of the extreme right via the Brexit vote. Stocker pointed out that Northern Ireland and Scotland voted to remain so Brexit was an English thing. Of course that rather ignores how our friends the cottage burners voted - Wales wanted out too but let's not spoil the plot. So what if the fellow falls into the first logical trap to point out this huge flaw in his work is an insult to all hard working, underpaid and dedicated propagandists. Oops I meant academics.
Stocker asserted that many of the concerns of we Brexiteers, such as immigration and multiculturalism were those of the far right. "ideas of the far right, a radical critique of immigration and multiculturalism" droned Stocker and Humphries did not dissent.
That chap Trevor Phillips who formerly headed the Commission for Racial Equality but now says that multiculturalism has failed - he must have been intellectually captured by the far right then: send out a rescue mission. So too must all 17 million of us who voted for Brexit even though many of us did so in support of things like a desire for greater democracy.
As it happens i support unlimited immigration (combined with a slashing of the welfare state) but as a tolerant sort of fellow I cant see why we cannot debate immigration or multiculturalism. The true fascists are those who say that anyone offering a critique of our current policies is of the far right or is accepting the ideas of the far right. Is tolerance of FGM compatible with true multiculturalism? Discuss. Or rather do not discuss in case you fall off the path of political correctness because you have accepted an idea of the far right.
This is the same sort of lunacy that used to see the bien pensants of the liberal media say "you cannot fly a Union Jack as it is the preserve of the far right." Of course that was rot but in ensuring that good ordinary patriots did not fly the flag for fear of being slated they allowed the far right to be seen as the main flag wavers.
Thankfully we have moved past that sort of nonsense but the fascist left has not given up and in its strongholds of the media (especially the BBC) and in academia its attack on free speech, on our right to challenge what the left has dictated be regarded as an unassailable othodoxy, grows ever more unpleasant.

In the 1930s Nazi Germany organised the burning of books that the State considered degenerate. The state, or rather the party, got to decide what everyone else should read. Back then the British left stood for free speech. How that has changed.
I have commented before on the tyranny that afflicts our campuses across the land. Not content with trying to stop the leader of the free world from visiting the UK, lefty students have successfully stopped folks including Germaine Greer and even the saintly Peter Tatchell from speaking because they have offended some snowflake mores.
And so today, as is normal on election day, the right wing tabloids went to town on Labour with front page spreads which made it clear that their readers should vote Tory. The central charges that Jeremy Corbyn is unfit to hold high office, has been the terrorists' pal for 35 years and that Labour economic policies would bankrupt Britain, are, at best, demonstrably true and at least worthy of debate.
Over on social media a number of Corbynistas showed how they had taken the matter into their own hands by buying up all the copies of the Sun and the Daily Mail they could find and burning them. This was not an isolated case and thousands of free speech deniers flocked to "like" and thus publicly condone these actions. That is to say they "like" denying their fellow citizens the chance to read newspapers which push a point of view with which they disagree and applaud the act of contributing to global warming ( not that it exists) by burning the "offending" material.
I will celebrate the demise of the loss making Guardian when it closes thanks to market forces. That is to say when folks realise what utter rubbish it peddles and stop buying it. The trend being my friend that is only a matter of time. But until it does go bust, I defend the right of the Guardian to publish its hateful rubbish because we on the right do actually believe in liberty. Sadly that is not the way of the left these days.

"Congratulations on your anniversary" said a raft of messages from folks I once knew, barely know or don't know at all but who are connected to me on facebook for grown ups, that is to say LinkedIn. Er ....what thought I... what anniversary?
Apparently this blog started five years ago and I updated my LinkedIn profile 1826 days ago to reflect this. I was no longer on the board of Rivington the company I founded but was ousted from, I was the editor of Tom Winnifrith.com. Well thanks folks it has been a blast. I really should thank Jim Mellon for asset stripping Rivington and reneging on our agreed compromise deal. That and those nasty lawyers letters sent to me (and to my Dad after one of his henchwomen stole data, just the wrong data) to try to stop me working five years ago, gave me a whole new opportunity and a motivation to succeed again. So thanks Jim, without your valiant efforts none of this would have been possible.
Our media operations are very profitable and growing. Jim, remind me how big are your losses on those media ops you asset stripped now? After five years your loss is well over £3 million or are you up to £4 million by now? When ousting me it was said that all that the media operations you asset stripped (which were, at that point, profitable) needed was a change of management. It really is all about management isn't it Jim?
The five years here have been quite fun. I was trying to explain to my sister T, who was pissed off about an article I wrote mentioning her, and who thought I was on sick leave, that writing on this website does not actually make me much in the way of money, but it keeps me relaxed and happy. It kept me just about sane when I was in a bad place five years ago and remains a relief outlet to this day, a place to vent.
At Rivington I was, for several years, gagged, unable to write what I thought. On this blog that has not been an issue. Sure, some folks, including the facist lawyer of a celeb who enjoys unprotected anal sex with folks who are not his husband in pools filled with olive oil while lecturing us all about the good work he does fighting the spread of AIDS, have tried to stop me but so far it has been free speech central. Such are the joys of an overseas server and being your own boss.
Thank you to all who have supported or read this blog as well as to Jim Mellon for giving me this unexpected career opportunity. My most widely read material is financial and appears elsewhere, mainly at ShareProphets but this is my real joy.
This article will be number 11498 to appear on this website but the 20 most read in descending order are:

Radio station LBC yesterday fired right wing loudmouth Katie Hopkins. I don't agree with a lot of what the Daily Mail columnist says but quite a few folks do. She is outspoken and a hate figure for the free speech hating intolerant liberal left. Over in the US comedian Tim Allen saw his long running hit show Home Improvement canned two weeks ago by ABC. Other less popular shows have not been axed. But then Tim is that rarity from Hollywood, a Republican and a Trump supporter to boot. Hollywood rejoiced at Tim's downfall.
There are many on the left whose views and comments are offensive to many of us but the liberal media elites will never ever fire a left wing gobshite. I find Brendan Cox the man who was married to the late Labour MP Joe Cox lecturing we Brexit supporters about how we are thick racists with blood on our hands pretty offensive but these days he practically lives in TV studios. I find protesters who hold up banners showing a star of David with a swastika in its centre, very ofensive. That C4 Fake news reporter Assad Baig who described his fellow British Moslems as "Uncle Toms" is offensive.
But the best way to show that Baig is a horrible extremist with a range of vile views is to keep him on air. it exposes him and exposes his views. If various hate preachers and ex Lib Dem MP David "the Jews" Ward want to compare Israel to the Nazis go ahead. It shows them up for the awful people they are. We on the right believe in free speech, it is increasingly clear that many on the left would rather silence those with whom they disagree than debate them. In doing so they lose the argument by default.
Katie Hopkins will not be silenced. I advise her to set up her own website with a pay to hear podcast. She would soon be making far more than she made at LBC and would be free to say exactly what she thought. That is the power of the internet. Folks do not need established media to offer a platform. And moreover if you have pulling power as Hopkins does why should you not enjoy all the financial upside. At LBC Katie pulled in the listeners other broadcastsers failed to do. Her pulling power and the revenies that generated subsidised those who said very little of interest.
Five years ago I involuntarily left a company that censored what i wrote. I cannot describe the joy I have felt ever since in having total editorial freedom. And there is a second joy. Running your own show means that if you are a commercial draw you get to see the benefit. My days of my talent subsiding the lazy and the talent free, like the disgusting piece of excrement that is Richard "Gollum" Gill, are over. What a great feeling that is.
Katie should have a look at the business model of Mark Stein and give it a go. I won't be listening as I find Hopkins either dull or offensive or both but I wish her the very best of luck becuase, unlike most of the "tolerant & pious" left, I do actually believe in free speech.

My godless, almost 16 year old, daughter Olaf calls me as her GCSE's start next week. Her school reports are glowing, she has already won a scholarship to the 6th form and I wish her luck but am confident that it will be A*s all round. We have agreed not to discuss grade inflation, I'm very proud of her anyway. Conversation then turns to the General Election where she says she is backing the Tories. Again I am proud of her. Her real anger is directed, however, not at her fellow Islington resident Comrade Corbyn, but at Tim Farron and the Lib Dems. She is furious at poor Mr Farron for his less than unequivocal support for LGBT rights. In Islington that is the sort of issue that really matters above all else.
Her mother Big Nose joins in the conversation and takes a similar approach. Poor Mr Farron. He is a loathsome weasel in many ways. His claim the other day that he is a Eurosceptic is just risable. His grasp of economics is so bad he actually thinks Vince Cable, who has predicted 17 of the last 4 recessions, is some kind of savant. The Lib Dems support of secret courts and of gagging the press in the last Parliament was a disgrace which must have seen Gladstone spinning in his grave.
But I do not think that Farron hates the pooftahs as Big Nose and Olaf suggest. He has a faith. For what it is worth, it seems to be a quiet and sincere faith not the faux evangelical nonsense of Tony Blair who started an illegal war because "God told him". And Farron's faith tells him that homosexuality is wrong.
In metropolitan liberal elitist London people of faith are derided. Well not entirely, the elite will not attack certain faiths because that is contrary to the spirit of multiculturalism. But the old world belief in Jesus? That is a subject for mockery. Christmas is not a time when Big Nose or Olaf go to Church. It is a time for merriment and consumerism and anyone who says that it is about celebrating the birth of Jesus is ridiculed. The old folks who trudge to Church are openly despised. Big Nose compares their beliefs to believing that there is a giant teapot in the sky that runs our lives. History and the evidence from the bible suggests that her case is weak.
There is a suggestion from Olaf that those who have a faith like Farron should be barred from politics. Really? I point to men like Martin Luther King and Wilberforce, whose Christian faith drove them and gave them courage as they made the world a better place. As with all Godless liberals, Big Nose tries to argue in a post fact era sort of way. She suggests that they may not have been Christians it is just that in the past everyone said they were. Being distantly related to Wilberforce and having studied his life and that of Dr King I point out that there is a huge body of evidence to the contrary. But the liberal elite live in a post fact era and that is brushed aside.
For the avoidance of doubt I am not comparing Tim Farron to Dr King. But it strikes me that having people with a sincere faith involved in public life is not quite the disaster my ex wife and daughter suggest.
For my troubles it is suggested that I have "got religion" and am now "evangelising." I increasingly question my faith but admit to a lack of it. My real crime is that I am tolerant in a way that the liberal metropolitan classes are not. For them certain minorities must be protected and, often promoted, at all costs, notably the gay community. But other minorities, notably Christians, should be openly derided and ridiculed. For them, it is acceptable to stop Ann Coulter from speaking - free speech only applies to those who hold certain views. And for them poor Tim Farron must be crucified for his views on just one subject.
Me, I take the old fashioned view that all minorities have rights to live their lives as they wish without persecution or open derision.. Gays should have the same rights as straights. Heck, and i am not thinking of Big Nose in particular, why should the misery of marriage be the sole preserve of heterosexuals. Let the gays suffer in the same way.
And Christians should have the same rights to live in a way that is compatible with their faith as should those of no faith. But in islington today some minorities are just more equal than others.
I suggest that my daughter considers going to university at Berkeley. She does not understand why.

Once upon a time, on both sides of the Atlantic, those on the liberal left believed in free speech and liberty. Back in the era of Mccarthy it was we on the right who were, correctly slammed, for stifling debate. I like to think that was an glitch in that for most of us who believe in a small state, freedom of expression is a given, it is part of the DNA of our thought set. It is the Big State loving left that wants to decide what the little people should think and say.
In recent years barely a week has gone by without some University no platforming not only good conservatives like Ann Coulter or Mark Steyn but also mad lefties such as Germaine Greer or Peter Tatchell because on some issue or another they are not quite mad enough. And holding the wrong view means that, for many on the left, you must just be silenced. And then abused by the Guardian, the BBC, the Washington post and pitiful CNN.
The intolerant left has had a cracking start to 2017. First came the revelation that Oxford Physics Don Joshua Silver had reported useless Home Secretary Amber Rudd for a "hate crime" for her Tory conference speech with some very silly proposals on immigration. That Rudd is an airhead with daft and unworkable and pointless ideas is a given. But to say this is a hate crime is surely insanity, particularly when, like Professor Silver, you did not actually listen to the speech.
At least it added to the stats showing a post Brexit rise in hate crimes which can all be blamed on Nigel Farage and it also wasted Police time and will perhaps deter others from even discussing immigration. For folks like Prof Silver there is no need to debate immigration - what is there to debate?
Trumping the insanity from Oxford came news that Opera star Andrea Bocelli had backed out of singing at the inauguration of Donald Trump after he received death threats. The liberal press thinks that it is very brave of Meryl Streep to stand up in a room full of millionaire liberals and say how Hollywood actors (ie millionaire liberals) are threatened by the Trump regime, singled out for attack.
it seems Trump's main crime in this regard is pointing out how American voters ignored the ludicrous threats made by the Hollywood elite about how America had to vote for crooked Hillary or they would all move to Canada. At the last count not one luvvie has headed to the frozen North. A celeb I admire is anyone brave enough to shrug off the abuse and threats from his or her fellow "artistes" and who will join most Americans in celebrating inauguration day on Friday.
Has Meryl Streep condemned those who posted death threats to Mr Bocelli yet? Or does she, like the rest of the left, not think that conservatives have any right to free speech?

Today is the annual Christmas party held by the Mrs for her mad lefty friends, a Godless bunch who regard Christmas as having nothing to do with Christ. The normal score is that I do the cooking then, to avoid being emboldened by a few glasses of wine into pointing out that whatever they are saying is patent nonsense, I feign illness and go to bed. Let them believe that the world is getting hotter and the polar bears are all drowning and that all those who voted for Brexit are racists and that Donald Trump is the new Hitler and that the money tree exists. It's Christmas I'm not going to argue.
Anyhow, to prepare for this I put up the Christmas tree and decorated it with trinkets picked up around the world , a memory of places I have been. Ad thus there are decorations from: India, Israel, England, Wales, Greece, Dubai, the Isle of Man ( can you spot that one?) Canada, the USA, France and Ecuador (the Galapagos).
There is a special first Christmas for Joshua trinket someone sent and on top, to embarrass my daughter who turns 16 in 2017, is an Angel she created in paper aged 5. It has survived and, I hope always will.
PS. The poster behnd does indeed say Palestine. It belongs to the Mrs and though I find it enormously offensive we Zionists believe in free speech so whatever...

After the Socialist MP Joe Cox was murdered by a mentally ill man the left wing Guardian Newspaper was quick to blame and condemn right wing Brexit campaigners who it claimed - with no evidence at all - had prompted this act. So what is its take on the tweet yesterday from Monisha Rajesh,a writer on travel matters who the Guardian uses regularly. She thinks that President elect Donald Trump should be assassinated.
Monisha has now deleted her tweet and protected her account but the screenshots are out there as you can see below. Will the Guardian show consistency and fire Ms Rajesh? Or does it think that it is okay to suggest that killing politicians, who have just picked up 59 million votes in a free and fair election, is acceptable if they happen to be right wing?
Free speech is something one should fight for but ihcitement to murder is not acceptable. Come on Polly Toynbee you remember what you wrote after Jo Cox died don't you? Now, how about 400 words on why Monisha must be fired?

Clint Eastwood tweeted repeatedly in support of Donald Trump before the election and celebrated on twitter afterwards and his account has now been suspended. Meanwhile there on folks out there on twitter calling for violence and all sorts of illegal acts in protest against the democratic call of the USA and twitter does nothing. As a supporter of free speech I am appalled at how the liberal establishment just cannot accept our basic liberties - aren't you too?
We know how silicon valley and Wall Street backed Hillary but she lost. Get over it. Before the contest the liberals who now deny the result and burn the flag slammed Trump for saying he might not accept the vote if it was rigged. The liberals who shout now do not do so because the ballot was rigged but simply because they do not like the result. They hate democracy.
When Obama won did you see conservatives out on the street burning flags? Did you see students demanding time off studies as they were too stressed? Did you see we nasty reactionaries refusing to accept democracy or trying to shut down the right of the supporters of the winning side, or indeed of anyone, to speak?
No you did not. Such naked facism and intolerance is the preserve of the liberal left. Folks actually demean the word liberal as they act in this way, they should take some time out from banning Clint or burning flags to read "On Liberty" and "On Democracy" by John Stuart Mill. And then just get on with life.
Meanwhile I suggest that twitter bans me and 59 million Americans as well. See what that does for your business model you Nazi pigs.

Out in Colombia a referendum on whether a peace treaty between the State and the loathsome murderers of the Maoist terror group FARC should be ratified has just seen the great unwashed vote the wrong way. It seems that the oiks were not so keen on an amnesty for the butchers and so voted in a way that the liberal intelligentsia across the world do not understand. it is Brexit all over again, why can't the lower classes do what is good for them, wails the elite. Meet academic Caroline Dodds Pennock from Sheffield University. She won't like me posting her photo but since you, the taxpayer, have been paying her wages since she graduated from Oxford you have a right to know how she thinks.
Caroline who is a historian but is a whizz at Women's studies as well caught my eye with the tweet below. Why I am not surprised that she reads the Guardian?
This is outrageous. Caroline really appears to think that the stupid peasants should only be allowed a direct democratic voice on things that do not matter. They simply cannot be trusted with important issues. I countered this with a comment about what a patronising remark that was to which she countered Of course I believe in democracy, but I see nothing wrong with really big issues going to the whole electorate. I am happy to accept the collective wisdom of my peers. And irrespective of where we were educated or what job we do, when it comes to democracy, everyone is your peer - all mankind stands equal.
Ideally all folks would vote on everything, in the spirit of true democracy, that is to say rule by the people. I would love to cut out the wastrels and expenses fiddlers who sit in Parliament, as often as not thwarting the desires of those that they are meant to represent while costing an arm and a leg. Cut out the middle man and you cut out the politics of pork belly as well as the porkers themselves. I accept that sometimes the people would vote in a way I'd disagree with but I think my fellow man has a right to decide his own future.
Caroline's assertion that because I support referenda means I don't support representative democracy is just silly. In the absence of a move to use modern technology to cut out the middle man I am happy to leave most decisions to the expenses fiddlers but big ones must be decided by the people directly. The left used to think this way too. It was Labour that pushed through plebiscites on the EU and Scotland in the 1970s. It is only now that the left is losing such votes that some of the comrades are forced to dismiss the views of the "lower orders"in such a patronising fashion.
De Toqueville and, later, Mill were right to warn of the tyranny of the majority and there needs to be institutional safeguards to prevent that. But ultimately I believe in the rights of my fellow man (and woman) to decide his or her future. But Caroline and her ilk have been bruised by Brexit and are thus now terrified of the popular will and so want to emasculate it via parliamentary democracy unless the issue is one that does not really matter. The liberal elite will pretend they are democrats and offer a sop to the masses by allowing them to decide on trivial matters such as whether their district should have a directly elected Mayor, but things that matter must be left to the "grown ups".
I am outraged at how patronising those with comfortable, well paid jobs such as academics who do some moonlighting with the BBC seek to lecture those whose existences are far more challenging about how we should all live our lives on the basis that the top few percent really "do know best". With Brexit, with the rise of Trump and in Colombia we "little people" are saying that "enough is enough". Caroline and I had a heated twitter exchange. She tweeted that I was a "former journalist" and disparaged me professionally. As a, very much, current journalist after 24 years, one month and two days in the game I said I would write an article and wanting to put in a bit of colour on this establishment figure asked which school she went to before attending Corpus Christi Oxford.
Of course I went to Oxford too. I accept that I am from a reasonably privileged background but I do not lecture those less privileged with an insistence that they are not smart enough to decide their own future, I leave that to Caroline. With her career smears against me Caroline gave as good as she got even if she had to resort to made up facts. It is a free world and she does seem to believe in free speech. But the reaction of her pals was instructive. Not only do the liberal left not like "the little people" having a democratic voice, they do not like those they disagree with enjoying free speech. Free speech is only for those who think the "right way"
Meet Fern Riddell who teaches history at Kings College London and has also appeared regularly on TV. Her thesis was on Vice and Virtue: Pleasure, Morality and Sin in London's Music Halls 1850-1939. In precis:
Using the theatrical space of the music halls as a prism for social investigation, this thesis explores how the stage was used to transmit and negotiate ideas of sexuality and social control from 1850-1939. Beginning with the development of urban understanding in the acts and songs of the male comic singers, to the militant feminist expressions of the suffragette stars, Fern is exploring how the music halls existed in a state of constant flux: as a place of radical political expression, and also conservative reinforcement. The main case study of the thesis is the incredible life of Kitty Marion, Militant Suffragette and Music Hall Star.
More of my taxes well spent I see. Anyhow Fern does not reckon that I should be publishing articles giving my viewpoint on the remarks made on twitter by her friend. If I had said this on her campus I would be censored as all the millennials rushed to the safe room for save haven. But I am not an academic, I am a journalist. So, on trumped up charges she wants twitter to ban me instead.

Twitter is run by liberal left fascists who apply a double standard to free speech. You can say what you want as long as you don't say anything which might upset your average Guardian reader, fuckwit millennial from hipster central in Brooklyn or Shoreditch or the Reverend Jesse Jackson.
When I was exposing the biggest fraud on the UK stockmarket for 30 years one shareholder in that fraud, Quindell, sent me a tweet saying that he would love to cut my throat. The same individual claimed to have visited my place of work. Naturally, since I was not shagging Olympics superstar Tom Daly, the Police did absolutely nothing about this. Heck you have a stalker who wants to cut your throat? What's the problem? This is not a hate crime as you are a straight, white male so what do you want us to do about it? And of course twitter did not give a monkey's either. Death threat from a self confessed stalker? Who cares? Twitter supports free speech don't you know?
By contrast US columnist and lecturer Glen Reynolds has just had his twitter account suspended. He responded to tweeted pictures of mobs circling cars in Charlotte North Carolina last night with the tweet "run them down". That seems like a fair call to me. If your car is surrounded by an angry mob do you get out and try to chat to them, in the way that wannabee Labour leader Owen Smith wants to have tea with ISIS, or do you stick your foot on the accelerator and make a get away knocking down a few law-breakers as you go? What would you do?
Mr Reynolds was not advocating that folks drive to Charlotte to knock down looters and rioters just that those facing the dilemma of getting home should explore that option. But twitter did not see it that way. Presumably some pious bastard from BlackLivesMatter or the Rev Jackson's office complained that this was a racist tweet since those invading the freeway are predominantly black.
And twitter, terrified of giving a platform to racists or indeed anyone who is accused of making a racist remark, just suspended Mr Reynolds without thinking about it for a second. Had twitter pondered the matter it would have realised that his tweet was - in the context of the conversation - a legitimate, if a tad brutal, response. But it did not. It just went to its default liberal fascist mode and closed him down.
Free speech on twitter only applies if you say the "right" things - that is always the way of the facsist liberal left.

Some free speech denying moron has decided to shut me down by signing me up to receive, by email, every press release issued by dozens of local councils and quangos across the UK. Oddly I am grateful. It is actually rather illuminating to see just how local authorities deprived of cash by the evil Tories find so many ways to spunk their budget on utter piffle. And so on July 13th I discovered that Coventry City Council was united against racism. Well I never. A Labour run Council opposes Xenophobia. Wow.
Before we go on...in the year ended April 2015, the 46 members of Coverntry City Council cost the greateful folks of slum City £928,852.04 in allowances and expenses. But they are clearly working hard in way that really improves the City. So the release - crafted by an expensive PR officer states:
Coventry city councillors have united in the Council Chamber in a vow to work with partners to fight racism and xenophobia in the city. There was unanimous support for a strongly worded statement debated by councillors at yesterday’s Full Council meeting condemning racism, xenophobia and hate crimes in Coventry.
Coventry City Council Leader, Cllr George Duggins, said: “The Council spoke as one on this issue and the debate was one of the most powerful and important many of us have ever experienced in the Council Chamber.
Hmmm. What is a debate? In Coventry it appears to be person after person standing up to agree with each other as they are "united". Debates at Coventry City Council must be like debates at the North Korean Peoples Assembly. Not exactly confrontational.
I am delighted that no Councillor in Coventry stood up to speak in favour of racism, xenophobia and hate crimes but not exactly surprised It would be really hard to find anyone in Britain in favour of such a motion unless, of course, one was polling Labour activists and the hate crimes in question were against the wicked Jews.
Natch, the debate was prompted by those nasty racists who voted for Brexit. Council leader Comrade Duggins opined
"Like many other people I have been alarmed by the reports of an increase in hate crimes across the country since the referendum...I believe it’s really important that as politicians we stand as one and tell the world that Coventry does not tolerate racism, hate crime or xenophobia.
Hmmmm. Reports eh? So no hard empirical evidence just what Comrade councillor read in the Guardian that morning, more anecdotal evidence.
And is it "really important" that half-witted expenses grubbing councillors in Coventry waste taxpayers money on a debate where they all agree with each other and then publicise the fact? Does that make Coventry less racist? Does it improve life in Coventry at all? Why do the political class think we care what they think or think that what they deem important is what we deem important?
Surely the real message of Brexit is that more and more of us hate the lot of them. By them I mean politicians not immigrants.

I am still spitting nails at the facist lawyers for a certain celebrity couple who got this entire website taken down on Friday by bullying our previous hosting company. The facist lawyers at Web Sheriff were not acting on behalf of a UK Court and acted on their own very dodgy interpretation of whether any legal threshold had been crossed by a certain article.
Fine. I have now republished the article which breaches no UK injunction, having moved my hosting to the United States and moved myself to the hovel in Greece which produces fantastic olive oil. If anyone reading this wants to buy some oil to use for whatever they want they know how to get in touch. Our new hosting company has balls of steel as you can see:
We believe Free Speech is for everyone. This was the driving reason why we founded NearlyFreeSpeech.NET at a time when "big content" threatened to suffocate the voice of the individual and turn the web into a one-way medium: television with resize bars.
For everyone to have free speech, they need to be able to afford it. They need to be able to really afford it, which means affording it on their own, without depending on government subsidies or corporate sponsorship. And they can, because this stuff just isn't that expensive. For everyone to have free speech, they need to be able to use it. Really use it. That means saying what they wish to say without fear of interference, reprisal, or censorship.
Our new hosting company will NOT respond to bully boy lawyers interpreting the law in odd ways to suit their own Orwellian tendencies. Now, who wants to buy litres of finest live oil from me?

It emerged last night that Tory MP John Whittingdale, now the Culture & Media minister, had a sexual relationship with a hooker before he became a minister. This has now prompted almost everyone involved in the sordid affair and everyone commenting on it, notably former MP Dr Death, Evan Harris, who now speaks for the odious Hacked Off body to spout complete drivel.
Four newspapers, that is to say three tabloids and the little read Indescribablyboring, knew about the affair but chose not to print details. They did so as they discovered about the relationship just after Leveson and were thus terrified of being bashed about intruding into the privacy of the MP, who was not married and did end the affair after he discovered he was dating a call girl.
That was a bad call by the press. Prostitution should be 100% legal as the current system does not work and like all forms of prohibition merely breeds crime. But as things stand while engaging in sex for cash is not illegal all sorts of things involved in prostitution, including advertising it, pimping or maintaining a brothel are. As such it is inconceivable that on this occassion what was happening was not a law maker shagging a law breaker. That must always be in the public interest. If you are an MP shagging a hooker - even if you do not know the bird is on the game - you deserve to be exposed.
Perhaps MPs on taking office should just be remainded that before they have sex with anyone they should ask if the person is both over-age and not on the game. It is called "taking precautions."
Dr Harris used to be a Lib Dem MP until the good folks of Oxford West wised up to the nonsense he spouts. But to hell with liberal ideas of free speach and a free press, he now works for Hacked Off the body set up by celebs to ensure that while the British press prints lots of nice stories plugging their films, TV shows, crap records and anything else that gives them cash, it does not show that their public images which they monetise so skilfully are bogus. So Hacked Off does not think we plebs should know if a celebrity gets blow jobs off hookers on Sunset Boulevard (Hugh Grant) or has unprotected anal sex as part of threesomes in olive oil filled baths while fronting up Aids charitites, ( oops we cant mention #xxxxxxx can we?).
Oddly Dr Harris and Hacked off, on this occassion, do not give two hoots about Mr Whittingdale's privacy and are slamming the press suggesting that it let the errant MP off lightly so as to encourage him not to accelerate the "good" work of Leveson. It seems that the current media secretary is instinctively a man who believes in light regulation of the press. As such Dr Harris and his celeb paymasters want the head of Mr Whittingdale.
Angela Eagle for Labour goes further saying that because the press let Mr Whittingdale off the hook in the past he must have no say in press regulation going forward. Labour, you see, wants ever tougher regulation of the tabloids. The Tories, so far, respond that this is just a private affair as the MP was not married.
So the party of law and order now thinks that it is okay for a law maker to shag a law breaker. A faux Liberal (Harris) wants press freedom curbed even more but is today cross that the press did NOT run a kiss and tell story. The Labour Party shows consistency in its desire to curb a free press unless that free press catches a Tory MP with his trousers around his ankles in which case it demands the head of that MP becuase the press did not print.
This is Alice in Wonderland stuff. The position of all parties seems to be at odds with what they actually believe in or should really believe in. Meanwhile the freedom of the British press has never been under greater threat. Let us all move our servers to Albania and print online and be damned.

By we, I mean the EU which is giving Turkey 6 billion Euro as a bribe to only export the right sort of immigrants (ie Syrians whether they be peace lovers or jihadis) to Europe. As part of the EU's Turk-geld policy we are also planning to allow 75 million Turkish citizens to roam freely around the EU from June and to accelerate Turkey's membership appliocation to join the Evil Empire. What could possibly go wrong? What's not to like. Answers on a postcard to David Cameron in Downing Street because Call Me Dave reckons this is money well spent and wants to be part of this barking mad set-up. I don't which is aother reason I am voting for Brexut.
As a reminder, Turkey bombs our friends the Kurds. It buys oil from ISIS and is the chief supply route of men and arms to ISIS. It closes down newspapers and TV stations that are hostile to the Government. And more than 2000 folk have been arrested for the offence of insulting the Government, that is to say disagreeing with it.
Terrorists are dealt with very harshly but who is a terrorist? Helpfully, President Erdogan has cleared that one up for us all. In Turkey a terrorist is not only someone who sets off a bomb or pulls a trigger but also includes journalists, politicians and civil rights activists if the Government deems them to support those engaged in military action. Thus three academics have just been arrested for saying that the Government should cease military action against the Kurds in a region that is overwhelmingly Kurdish. Those academics are terrorists.
If I was in Turkey then I could, for suggesting that Erdogan is acting like a total fascist, also be arrested as a terrorist. Essentially a terrorist is someone who disagrees with the Government and says so.
The Turkish approach to free speech, civil rights and democracy is, shall we say, not exactly in the mainstream of the Europan liberal tradition. It is closer to the model adopted by Time Magazine's Person of the Year 1938, the last German leader befor Mrs Merkel to pick up that honor, Herr Hitler.
Yet call Me Dave wants us to stay in the EU so we can give our taxes to these fascists? So that they can join the club and send their citizes - who seem, in large numbers, to approve of this sort of thing, over here? Perhaps we might hear an outright condemnation of Erdogan's latest words from Call Me Dave and the other EU leaders today as they meet to discuss the migrant crisis that they caused but cannot solve?
One suspects that we will not. All that is needed for evil to triumph is for good en to sremain silent. Or in this case weak little men and Mrs Merkel.

Once upon a time folks on the liberal left on both sides of the Atlantic used to believe in free speech. In the McCarthyite era they were able to claim the moral high ground but somewhere in the last fifty years it has all gone horribly wrong. For the left now seems to think that free speech means that you can say whatever you want as long as you are a liberal, a lefty. The left misses the point: if you believe in free speech you fight for the right of your opponents to say what they want not just the rights of your supporters.
The left has closed down discussions as it denied free speech. And so for years it has been impossible to discuss immigration without the debate being closed down amid screams of racism. It has been impossible to discuss reform of the NHS becuase if you do not regard doctors as saints and the only solution to any problem to be to chuck ever more money down the bottomless pit you are a heartless fascist, a wicked Tory. The discussion is unable to progress.
There is a interesting debate about how affirmative action may actually adersely affect the career progression of capable female and ethnic candidates. But if you try to open up that discussion you are a sexist or a racist or both. So there is no debate. The left just closed it down.
And yesterday the left closed down Donald Trump. carrying banners marked "Make America Hate Again" the strormtroopers of the left forced the front runner for the GOP nomination to cancel a rally in Chicago. The only winner....Trump.
The college kids and middle class activists may see this as a victory. They are mistaken. They were never going to vote for him anyway. Among Republicans and "Reagan Democrats," the sort of folks who dont get a privileged start in life and an education at the sort of college where they no platform wicked capitalists and accept only one point of view, the shouting down of Trump will only make him more popular.
When did liberals stop supporting the idea of free speech? And when did they just become so stupid?

Turkey's record on human rights, free speech on committing genocide against the Kurds on backing ISIS is disgraceful. Ignoring all that, the EU (with Britain involved) is doing a deal with the Turks on the migrants which will still see Europe having to take in millions and will cost us a packet and will see millions of Turks also now heading for Northern Europe. It is an awful deal at every level and Call Me Dave Cameron is at its centre. This should make every waverer decide today to vote for Brexit - the UK cannot afford to be part of the EU Club any longer.

Over on Channel 4 News on Thursday Kylie Morris was interviewing two God fearing hard working, tax paying folks from Iowa, that is to say Republicans from a flyover state - the sort of people the liberal media establishment would rather not mix with. Kylie put it to them that Donald Trump was making the GOP race a bit of a pantomime, after all "the UK Parliament even debated banning Trump from Britain". Words almost fail me.
In America they believe in something we used to fight for in Britain, that is to say free speech. Mr Trump is clearly a very popular figure among Republicans and even among Independents. Unlike the belle of the liberal media ball, the loathsome Mrs Clinton, there is no chance that he will be indicted any time soon for email cover-ups. Unlike all other contenders from both parties (bar crackpot Dem Bernie Sanders) he is not a creature of the Beltway but has actually made money and created jobs in the private sector.
An awful lot Americans thus have a lot of time for Mr Trump, something Kylie just cannot understand.
That the parliament of a declining second rate power wastes its time debating whether to insult our allies in the US and defecate on the idea of free speech shows that our politicians are the clowns. And Ms Morris is just a very silly and patronising woman, showing her true colours with her ludicrous assertion.

Parliament is debating whether to ban Donald Trump from Britain. This is a silly waste of time showing, again, that MPs are not fit for purpose. It is also fundamentally wrong for anyone who believes in free speech. When did the left stop believing in liberty? I feel embarrased to be British on a night like this.

I despise Donald Trump for many of the things that he has said. I also explian why I believe he will not win the Republican nomination let alone the US General Election. But those who seek to deny him access to the UK are free speech deniers and are wrong. Meanwhile the coverage of this fascist attack on free speech and the 500,000 name petition (and non coverage of another 500,000 name petition) by the BBC and The Guardian and other elements of the press is shameful

In Free Speech & Liberty Pizza House every table is topped with a little card explaining why we are called what we are called and a bit about the work we do on ShareProphets. Folks read them and the feedback is great, after all who doesn’t believe in free speech?
So this afternoon as I struggled through a hangover and acted as stand in waitress this Japanese (I think) couple came in for a long lunch. The women was certainly a babe. Anyhow she read the flyer and at the end of the meal she said “I am doing a project interviewing interesting people”. Hmmm what on earth has that got to do with me thought I, still rather regretting that second bottle last night..
And I’d like to interview you, said the babe.
It was not that I was fishing for compliments from a good looking woman but more than 16 hours after I finished drinking last night I really was losing the will to live so I politely asked why? The babe insisted that I was an interesting person and my work was fascinating. Whatever. I asked her if she could relay that news to the woman formerly known as the deluded lefty, the Mrs, who, I sense, is not that interested in the intricacies of capitalism. She laughed politely and will be popping in at 11 AM tomorrow for the interview.
Meanwhile I have today also been asked to speak at a meeting on “how women can become better investors.” In the same way as men methinks but I suspect that is not the “right answer”. Luckily I have two months to work out was is the right answer.
Meanwhile…a Japanese babe who thinks I am interesting beckons at 11 AM Thursday

Next week it is a party organised by the maddest lefty among the mad lefties who the Mrs counts as her friends. The last time I met this woman she was celebrating the application of an academic colleague to obtain taxpayer funding on a project "how black women have suffered under austerity". You really do not know where to start with such nonsense but I am booked in for another dose of it a week today.
But as a bit of a warm up, the Mrs has arranged a treat for this afternoon, visting the Bristol refugee fair. I somehow think that I may be the ideological fish out of water. I brace myself.
I should note that though my Mrs may be a deluded lefty she has numerous plus points among which is her amazing tolerance of my views. Free speech denier she is not. Although, to avoid getting duffed up this afternoon, I suspect that I may be biting my lip on a number of occassions.

Last week we had to call the Police into Free Speech & Pizza as one Bulletin Board jihadist was calling 40 times a day to swear at our staff. TripAdvisor is fully aware of the campaign of harassment against Clerkenwell’s finest pizza house because we have told it. It refuses to take action and refuses to let us post replies to bogus posts pointing out that they are bogus as that is defamatory. Now it asks if we would like to answer a customer question. An email just received is a hoot. It reads:
A customer has a question about The Real Man Pizza Company. Respond and your answer will rise to the top of the list. Answering questions is a great and easy way to engage with customers (new and old) and encourage more business.
Hi When are the council going to close this rat hole down i hear they paid a corrupt councill official to sign off the hygiene certificate. This place should be condemmed certainly would not recommend to any one. Also I am sure some of the staff were smoking weed outside in the street. Should this be allowed are the police aware there are probably drugs on the premises. The owner often brags about coke and hookers and when i was there a couple of not so clean looking girls were in the restaurant flirting with some fat toothless drunk on table no 10. My question is when is this place going to be fully inspected?
Hmmm. Apparently that is not defamatory at all is it TripAdvisor? And you kind of wonder why some folk question whether your service is objective.
As for me. I’m happy to take a drugs test at any time. I shall be 100% clean. I shall also continue to expose fraud and crime among London listed companies notwithstanding the actions of the Bulletin Board jihadists who see to protect the criminal classes and deny free speech. And their idiot allies at TripAdvisor.

I do not support UKIP and I find much of what Nigel Farage has to say on matters such as immigration truly nauseating but those folk who mobbed his family car yesterday are even more nauseating.
Ben Gurion said that for Israel to be a grown up country it needed both prostitutes and fascists. Mr Farage is not a fascist (or a prostitute) but would have understood the sentiment. In a mature country we tackle the economic illiteracy at the heart of UKIP, we point out why its policies on immigration make no sense and are just fundamentally nasty. One engages in a free debate. You do not mob the car in which he and or his family sits.
I find the views of Polly Toynbee or Owen Jones even more offensive and repellent than those of Mr Farage but I celebrate the fact that they are allowed to spout their nonsense as that gives those with half a brain cell the chance to engage in debate and point out how preposterous their ideas are.
It is sad but many on the left simply do not understand that free speech means supporting the idea of those whose views you loathe to speak freely. The gut reaction of far too many on the left is simply to attempt to shut down and no platform those with whom they disagree.
As an aside, many of those in the mob attacking the Farage car looked n good need of a bath and appeared to be a rainbow coalition of those living off welfare or working in the public sector. Perhaps one reason that the right does not protest in that way is that we are too tired after a long week in a real job to make the effort?

Anyone can set up a twitter account in minutes. And once on twitter you can shout out to the world what you want. Of course if you call a Police Horse gay, tweet a burning poppy or insult David Cameron the Old Bill might feel your collar if you happen to live in Airstrip One. But if your sole purpose is to insult non-celebs (i.e. Tom Winnifrith, rather than Tom Daley) you can tweet pretty much what you please.
And so it should be. I support free speech to the hilt. Some of the interventions by the Old Bill are disgraceful, a matter I have highlighted here before.
But free speech does not mean that I have to read what folks tweet. For instance I have a standard policy that if someone tweets out something that could be described as Jew hating or supportive of gay bashing I will not follow them They can rant on as much as they want about the wicked Jews being responsible for the Charlie Hebdo attacks or about how they want to string the poofters up from cranes. But I am just not interested in their views. And whilst I celebrate the odd mad lefty (Peter Tatchell, Brokerman Dan, my wife and my father) because they are interesting mad lefties and on certain matters are total heroes, folks who just rant day in day out about the evils of capitalism are of no interest. So I would not follow them.
But part of twitter is that you have the ability to force me to read your inane views by simply starting a tweet @tomwinnifrith. Freedom of speech means not only the ability to say what you want but also to choose what you listen to. And so if some loon starts tweeting his Jew hating, gay bashing or capitalist loathing views to me I have every right to block him.
Of course certain of my “admirers” in the Bulletin Board Moron community have also taken to twitter. And so daily I find a new account with zero followers tweeting @tomwinnifrith some sort of insult. Yesterday’s classic was “how dare you attack Quindell. How is the legal claim on the £100,000 you stole going? Hypocrite.”
Right: Four or five years ago I managed a fund which invested £100,000 in a company that turned out to be a fraud. At my insistence, all investors were fully compensated. The Regulator saw all documents and cleared me. I gained not a penny. Investors lost not a penny. So there is no law suit against me. That is al in the public domain yet the Morons insist otherwise. Why on earth would I not block such a moron? Or indeed wags who start their tweets @tomwinnifrith – why should I listen to a failed pizza delivery boy?
Why indeed? You are not obliged to follow me and I am never going to tweet to you and you do not have to read what I write. Feel free to ignore me as the ability to do so is part of the beauty of free speech. Equally you won’t mind terribly if I block you as you are a factually inaccurate bore, will you? Tweet your piffle to all of your zero followers but you have no right to make me read it.

Yesterday one Bulletin Board Jihadist spent the entire afternoon ringing up the Free Speech & Liberty Pizza House and then breathing heavily or just making no noise down the line until our staff hung up. Then he called again. Is this a threat or just to block bookings I do not know but his number is now being traced. And so the war goes on between the free speech deniers and ourselves. If you support us – buy the T-shirt that says so!
The shirts can be bought in a range of colours as T-shirts or sweatshirts. For immediate delivery you can order HERE

The jihadists of the QPPSAG and other frauds and morons have waged war against me, this website and especially our cracking Clerkenwell restaurant for 2 years as we expose crime and dishonesty in the City. Today we accelerate the fight back against the free speech deniers as the restaurant gets a makeover.
We all support free speech don’t we? But how far will you go in its defence? The staff at this restaurant know that defending free speech with words is easy but when you are in the firing line it can be rather harder.
During the past three years I have received more than 75 lawyers letters from a range of listed companies threatening me for what I have written on this website which I run with veteran Canadian journalist Darren Atwater demanding that I desist. I have not withdrawn one allegation or article.
In the first month of 2015, three companies that I have attacked have gone bust or seen trading in their shares suspended. Over the past year I have ended the PLC careers of more than half a dozen individuals and there are more to come. Good riddance to the crony capitalists!
Only one company (Sefton, run by JimmyLiar Ellerton) has upped the ante from bullying to taking full legal action. Its chairman was fired in disgrace and it ended up paying us costs.
I have also received three death threats in the past year which you can see on the walls at the Free Speech & Liberty Pizza House ( as well as a selection of letters from bully boy lawyers including Schillings, Pinsent Masons and Memery Crystal) , we have received dog shit in the post and the staff at one City investment bank have publicly threatened to beat me up for what I wrote about the way they ripped off investors by floating fraudulent companies. I responded by going to film a video outside the bank’s Christmas party which you can see here.
The most venomous reaction has been from some shareholders in some of the Companies that I have exposed. Staff at the restaurant have seen stalkers appear here and have suffered numerous abusive phone calls.
There has been a campaign to discredit this place by posting bogus reviews on Tripadvisor with those responsible then taking to stock chat rooms to boast of their actions. This has been pointed out to Tripadvisor but it has refused to remove these bogus posts or to allow us to respond.
Morons like Harriet Dennis at the Telegraph have assisted this campaign by publicising those reviews. Some journalists are part of the crony capitalist system and just do not understand why everyone in our industry should fight tooth and nail for free speech. These bogus reviews mean that our restaurant has a dire Tripadvisor rating.
The staff at the Free Speech & Liberty Pizza House know that on numerous occasions those who do not support free speech and a free press have threatened to disrupt events here which I am attending. During a difficult couple of years they have not flinched and neither have Darren or myself.
We not only believe completely in the principle of free speech we understand that fighting for it comes with consequences. But it is a fight that we intend to continue.
If you enjoy great food, interesting wall art and support free speech and are in the Clerkenwell area we hope to see you soon at what remains a very popular local restaurant loved by a growing army of customers.

When I parted company with t1ps the pathetic wretch put in charge - Mr Richard “Gollum” Gill -sent a letter to its then 3000+ subscribers blaming me for everything and saying “new management was turning it around”. That was 30 months ago. At the same time I bought from Rivington – the owner of t1ps – the Real Man Restaurant in an open auction. It was losing £8,000 a month and was viewed as a basket case.
Wind forward 30 months. T1ps has lost 95% of its readers and was last weekend shut down. So much for the turn around.
Meanwhile Real Man is now profitable. For the first time in years it has enjoyed real capex and staff training and our landlord (Camden Council) loves us as do our customers. And as t1ps is shutting down Real Man will move up a gear with a relaunch and rebrand on Monday.
For those who left t1ps with me like Darren and Steve there is job security and the “new management feels it has been a job well done. Real Man is humming, the Alexa.com stats tell it all in terms of whose website have the readers, UK Investor Show has three times as many stands booked in as the sad legacy show at the old place and we are happy in the work that we do. We enjoy the joy of free speech in a way that we never did round at the old place. Life is fun.
As for the “new management” at t1ps, having trainwrecked what was once the UK’s most successful share tipping website in less than three years and spent far too much time trying to smear me in a vile manner rather than delivering a decent product: how is the job hunt going Gollum?
Gloating over. I trust that the point about “new management” is made.

Like Lazarus, rising from the dead, Page 3 birds have returned to The Sun. Good. A small minority of the liberal elite who never read the paper anyway attempted to dictate a change of editorial policy. They have failed.
The liberal elite do not like Page three birds. They would not like their daughters showing their tits. But then their daughters go to nice private schools in North London, a good university and have nice respectable careers. A check-out position at Tesco is not their career choice.
The liberal elite are happy to deny the poor the opportunity for financial freedom because the poor are the client state of the liberal left. And while they mouth platitudes about freedom of speech or expression that is only until something is said which they find distasteful.
I find The Guardian objectionable and distasteful. So I do not buy it. But I have no right to stop it publishing opinions on a daily basis which I find loathsome. But then I do not pretend to be part of the liberal left: I actually DO believe in freedom and in allowing those less privileged than I the chance of a better life.
Vive Le Sun. Vive les Page Three Birds. I shall continue not to buy it as it is generally an intolerant rag full of rubbish but I am delighted that it will continue to stay that way.

Real Man Pizza Company is one of the worst rated Tripadvisor restaurants in London. Over the past year free speech denying shareholders in blinx, Quindell and other POS companies have reacted to my – vindicated – sell calls by posting bogus reviews and boasting about them online.
Tripadvispor has been shown proof of this but has refused to act. We have not be helped by having only a 1* (on a scale of 0-5) hygiene rating from the Council. That was a result of legacy issues: years of capital under-spend and poor staff training. They knew what to do to follow the rules but could not explain why.
We have invested heavily in upgrading the place and in our staff and for yonks have been begging for a re-inspection as we have known that we were massively underscored for most of last year.
The inspector finally arrived last week and gave us 4/5 classification “good”. That is a lagging indicator as we have been at that level for ages. All those reviews claiming the place was dirty, etc were just lies.
Even last week a bloke posted a review claiming the waiter was drunk. Our waiters are female – they are waitresses. Our male staff are Moslems – they do not drink. It was a lie just like the rest.
We have been persecuted by free speech deniers. But we have invested in our staff and backed them as they produce great pizza, pasta, salads, puddings in a clean and friendly venue with a great atmosphere. And they all understand about free speech and understand why we fight as we do.
They have seen the death threats posted to me at RMPC. They have taken the abusive phone calls. They have seen the odd stalker come in and stare at me before storming out. They have seen the reviews. And they have stood firm.
We punched the air last week and we are still celebrating. Now the fight back against the free speech deniers starts at 91-95 Clerkenwell Road. We hope you will show your support by giving us your custom if you are in the area.
We go on the offensive shortly. Watch this space!

The City of my birth contains more than its fair share of deluded lefties who worship at the altar of political correctness while singing the praises of the great Money Tree in the sky. They may not be bad folks but they are fools and their sanctimony drips out in a most annoying fashion.
And so this week the Oxford University Press announced that henceforth it would not be showing images of pigs or sausages lest it offend Muslim readers. How many Muslims were offended by a picture of Peppa or Winnie the Pooh’s little pal? Sod all of course. The middle class lefties probably know very few Muslims. The Muslims live in the poorer bits of East Oxford, the folks at the OUP wouldn’t dream of crossing over Magdalen bridge and leaving leafy West Oxford.
Many of us find the writings of Polly Toynbee and Owen Jones offensive but we would not dream of banning them because we believe in free speech. It is a particular trait of the middle class liberal mind that free speech is seen to be so selective.
That the City that saw Cranmer, Latimer and Ridley burned for their beliefs, less than half a mile from the OUP, should throw up such nonsense is just sad. Sad is the word to describe this episode. Or perhaps silly. Or pathetic.

Someone using an anonymous name and made up email keeps on trying to post comments on this website. The content is the same – defamatory and untrue comments about me and my business interests followed by the assertion that I am a “dirty jippo” (sic)
I make an effort to shower once a day and am not of Romany extraction and I am afraid to say that I know no gypsies. When I was a child my parents used to let a couple of hippies called Rob and Maggie camp in our field and so I have taken the reins of a horse drawn gypsy wagon. But that is the closest I have got.
I have no problems with gypsies. Nor with free speech. If this coward wants to go post racist and defamatory comments (anonymously) there are plenty of places to do it. Hitler was not keen on gypsies so maybe he should try a white supremacist site somewhere?
But as a publisher I am not obliged to provide this bigot or any other bigot with a platform. As such this cretin can keep submitting untrue, defamatory and racist comments but he is mistaken if he thinks I shall approve any of them.

In audio format because I cannot be bothered to make myself look even vaguely presentable, my weekly postcard starts with the murders of fellow journalists at Charlie Hebdo. I look at the reaction of the political establishment to the fact fascist pig Marie Le Pen and her Front Nationale and of the factually innacurate claims made by Nigel farage of UKIP. The left's double standards on free speech are again examined but then we move onto the demonisation of the Muslim community but our failure to be honest about the scale of the problem we face.

Naturally I am shocked over the massacre of journalists at Charlie Hebdo in Paris by Islamofascist gunmen. It is an assault on free speech, it is sickening and it must be deplored but watching C4 coverage of the event last night the cowardice and duplicity of the Western Media was there for all to see.
First up were the range of voices singing the praises of the publication for daring to challenge cultural norms, standing up to religious intolerance and to racism for fighting for free speech and calling for the Front Nationale to be banned. Er…hang on a sec…
Personally I do not find some of the crude jibes made at all religions by this publication very clever, funny or brave. Let’s face it Jews and Christians are not going to react by hacking heads off in protest, that sort of behaviour is the preserve of the Islamofascists. However, amongst the trendy liberal elite it is deemed clever and almost the norm to mock those of any faith (but especially the Christian faith) as if they were some relic of a former age, like those who support fox hunting, hanging or who believe in a flat earth. I admire those with faith. I cannot believe but almost wish I did. I find the principles of Christianity as far more appealing than those of the chattering classes.
As such while I regard much of what Charlie Hebdo lampooned about the faith I’d like to have offensive, crude and not very clever. Sure, attack the Church where it fails (like in child abuse) but to attack folks just for having faith or the faith itself in a sneering manner – how very Islington.
But I defend its right to publish this bollocks because I believe in free speech. And that is why I am perplexed by how the liberal elite think that Charlie Hebdo trying to get the Front Nationale banned is worthy of praise. Okay it fits in with the modern liberal agenda but it is hardly in the Mill or Gladstone tradition of supporting free speech is it?
That I loathe and despise everything that the party of Le Pen stands for is a given. But the way to tackle those who hold such views is not to ban them for that only forces them to seek extra-democratic outlets fir their hate and venom. The way to tackle fascists is to confront and expose them for what they are, to remind folks of the exact words that old man Le Pen used when describing Hitler’s treatment of the Jews and all of the other dark poison at the heart of the Front Nationale.
It was David Ben Gurion who said that Israel would not be a grown up adult country until it had both prostitutes and Nazis. The former were quick on the scene. The latter arrived in the 80s with Meir Kahane’s Kach party. It was better that this nutter was allowed to sit in the Knesset and be exposed for the vile creature that he was than that he be allowed to whip up sympathy by being banned and engage in far less attractive activities.
Believing in free speech means that you allow all to speak whether you agree with them or find their views repellent. For the liberal elite free speech seems to be rather more selective.
As to the bravery of Charlie Hebdo in showing an image of Mohammad I noted how C4 news stressed last night that “we do not ourselves do that.” Of course C4 does not do that although it would happily show an image of Jesus shagging Mary Magdalene. The fact is that the Islamofascists have already won. The media is terrified both of being shot or hacked to death but also of crossing certain lines of political correctness and being accused of racism and bigotry. Mocking Christianity is cool. Mocking Islam is politically unacceptable.
As ever the Western Liberal Media show themselves as both cowards and hypocrites.

For once I combine my financial and non-financial weekly video postcard into one. Recorded at the Greek hovel I am turning into a home I shows off my new toy but do not say whom I thinks of as I slash away at the Frigana (I explain what that is too). But I am sure you can guess.
The subject is free speech. Starting with John Stuart Mill I cover how it is society rather than draconian laws that threaten free speech in the UK.
I relate this both to threats made to the livelihood of an Israel supporting twitter acquaintance (see HERE) but also to my own livelihood and life and why Society rather than that state needs to change to protect free speech in its responsible manner and what responsible free speech is.

What is it about the intolerance of the liberal left/Islamofascist alliance when it comes to free speech? I do not deny anyone the right to say that they support Hamas and why, that is their call. They are on the side of terror, of homophobes of folks whose desire is genocide but they have the right to be heard. And that is pretty much the view of all Israel supporters we believe in a free world where folks can say or do what they wish.
In Israel one can dissent, one can speak out against the Government, one can pursue a career if female and you can sleep with whom you want. In Gaza life is very different and it is shameful that in the UK supporters of the organisation whose charter commits itself to wiping Israel off the map appear to be adopting a similar attitude to free speech.
My pal, Mr Frog (not his real name) works for a FTSE 100 listed marketing and communications group. He is a vocal supporter of Israel and of her right to defend herself. He does not celebrate the death of any innocent in his tweets or Facebook pages but he is clearly partial. And this has come to the attention of certain Islamofascists in the UK who have now swamped his employer with emails accusing Mr Fish of “racism” and “supporting child killing.”
This is clearly bogus but such is the fear of PLCs of being branded racist and such is the media inspired anti-Israel frenzy, that Mr Frog almost certainly now faced a formal enquiry and disciplinary meeting within days.
How many folks have faced such action for accusing Israel of genocide or comparing them to the Nazis? Almost none because no-one on the Israel side complains. You see one reason we support Israel is that we support a free society where one can exchange all views. In Israel all its citizens (including 1.5 million arabs) can say what they want about the way that society is run. It is a concept called democracy which is unusual in that region.
But Gaza is not a free state and thus those who support Hamas see nothing wrong in trying to silence dissent by whatever means they wish, including blackmailing PLCs with accusations of harbouring racists.
I shall watch this case with interest and will name and shame the FTSE 100 Company if it panders to the free speech deniers. Do we live in 1984 or 2014?

I return to the dual themes of free speech and the intolerance of the left when it comes to dissent in this week’s video postcard.
I have had to record early when too tired after Thursday’s Quindelliferous day in order that Darren can get away to celebrate his wedding anniversary. But the message should still be clear.
If you support free speech feel free to come along to the AIM Cesspit awards dinner at Real Man in Clerkenwell on 30th June with myself, Evil and Lucian. Tickets can be bought for £40 HERE
My weekly financial video postcard looks at the way that Quindell deals with the press and analysts. It is almost unparalleled in my 25 year career and it can be viewed HERE

I was with someone last night who lives in one of the more liberated Arab countries (in the Gulf) and who is involved in making short films. They relayed how a film out soon will make a few comments about radical Islam. The maker has left the country in question never to return. The alternative is prison or worse. That is free speech in the Arab world in 2014.
The one Middle Eastern country many in the West like to demonise is Israel. Its former PM Ariel Sharon died today aged 85. Sitting in Bristol, I can say that for standing by and allowing the Christian militia in Beirut to slaughter Palestinians in the Sabra and Shatila camps in the early 1980s this man was a war criminal. He was a monster. And his actions (inactions) were bad news for Israel. He was a disgrace and he will, I am sure, rot in hell.
In his early life he was a war hero as Israel fought to retain one small strip of land where Jews could be safe from persecution but where folks could also say what they want, vote out their leaders, not get stoned to death or string up from a crane for being gay or opposing the regime, etc. But for his crimes in later life he was a monster and there can be no excuses made. Sharon will rot in hell.
I say this as an unswerving supporter of Israel. And the odd thing is that were I sitting in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem today I could say exactly the same thing. I could write it and post it on the internet. Such opinions will appear in sections of the Israeli press. In Israel free speech exists. Even if it means criticism of the State or its leaders. That makes that country unique in the Middle East. Yet so many opt to demonise Israel and laud the other regimes of the region that behave so differently in every respect.

My crimes? Questioning the party’s immigration policies and also its Jew hating “friends of Palestine Group”. UKIP claims to be a libertarian party. Hmmmmm. I was never a party member but now I cannot even see the rants of the faithful on its LinkedIn page.
Libertarians tend to believe in free speech. Libertarians do not want the Jews driven into the sea. Libertarians do not want to restrict free movement of people in search of work. Libertarians would reform the welfare state in order to stop folk moving just to live on welfare but also to deal with indigenous welfare junkies. UKIP is about as Libertarian as Genghis Khan.
So I have now been booted out of LinkedIn UKIP ( having refused suggestions that I stop writing any criticism of the party at all) as well as UKIP Friends of Greece. My crime there was to suggest that Greece was corrupt and an economic basket case and that Albania (low tax, relatively honest) was a role model for poor Hellas.
I also got stick in the West Ham LinkedIn Group for wanting to fire Fat Sam Allardyce last season. I sense now that my views on that matter are now rather mainstream. But at least the West Ham LinkedIn group allows free speech. You can question and criticize. I guess the Cockney Boys are the only true libertarians left on LinkedIn.

And so the royal baby is born and I wonder do I really care? Do I understand the hysteria? I have to admit that I just cannot make up my mind on the monarchy although I respect the Old Queen greatly. But more on Peter Tatchell later.
As a meritocrat I can see no earthly reason why I should believe in monarchy. It is an anachronism. However when I consider who we would have had as a head of state had there been no monarch I quickly get out the bunting and start singing God Save The Queen. President Heath? President Kinnock? President Wicked Witch? I will stick with the current set up thank you.
If I am in any doubt as to where I stand I simply look at the terrible deluded and embittered lefties wheeled out by the BBC and The Guardian to celebrate the Royal Birth by saying we should abolish the monarchy. If Polly Toynbee et al stand for one thing then I just know that it is right to hold an opposing view.
As such I suppose that I am a Monarchist by default but that does not make me a terribly enthusiastic one. Peter Tatchell who is a republican tweeted yesterday that “The Royal Baby is one of thousands born the same day. Too much fuss. But good wishes to baby & parents” I take a pretty similar line.
But I note that unlike many on the left Tatchell shows a bit of decent humanity in his tweet. Good for him. While some on the left cannot hide their hatred for the Royals, Tatch recognizes that William and Kate are human beings going through the same emotions as any other couple facing childbirth.
On a whole range of views the gay rights campaigner is absolutely bonkers on a scale that makes Polly Toynbee seem almost sane. But for the way that he supports free speech even where he disagrees violently with what is being said (in a way that many on the left do not), for his incredibly brave campaigning on gay rights issues in places where homosexuals face real persecution (which has seen Tatch beaten up horribly over the years, so much that his body is broken), and for his basic sense of humanity, I am a great admirer of Tatchell.
I follow him on twitter, thankful that he has never had the power to implement some of his more ridiculous ideas but grateful that he is there as a constant force for change and spur to the collective conscience. Long live the Queen. In this context: both of them.

I see that my recent articles on Bulletin Board Morons have unleashed a firestorm of anonymous abuse various from Bulletin Board Morons. As I wandered along the beach and enjoyed a very nice grilled octopus lunch I pondered whether the morons have a point? For about five seconds.
The morons of course never post under their own names and then proceed to say whatever they wish. If I had a penny for every time I had received abuse from the morons over the years I could buy half of Greece. Perhaps these days I could pick up the whole country. Hidden behind the mask of anonymity they say what they like.
That is fine by me. Airstrip One is a free country. Well sort of. But please do not expect me to regard dishing out abuse without revealing your identity as courageous in any way.
Among writers (i.e. those who earn money from writing in their own name) I am a little unusual in that I am happy to dish out the abuse back. I do so in my own name. And sometimes in quite a witty manner. The BB Morons however think that this is all shocking.
Some feel I should show bravery by going onto BB threads and posting as myself. Hmmmmm. Let me see. Shall I go and write for free swapping ideas with folks who fail to debate facts but instead think that accusing me of being gay is a valid point or shall I earn some money writing elsewhere? What is my job? Oh…I am a writer. Perhaps the BB Morons all work for free? If indeed they are capable of holding down a job.
Others accuse me of being “unprofessional” in using words like Bulletin Board Moron or dickhead or indeed in bothering to have a go at these fools now and again. Hmmmm. I do not pretend to be a dry as dull analyst crunching out reports which refer to KPIs or other MBA-ish terms. That is not what interests me. I am an aggressive writer and that aggressive writing pays the bills. And as a bonus it entertains me greatly. I write about what I want: cats, my lack of breakfast, Andy "horseface" Carroll, civil liberties, birds, sleazy Tony Baldry MP, the Evil Empire and POS AIM companies and the list goes on and on. Oddly folks choose to read that material. No-one forces them to.
I like being able to write exactly what I think. I was denied that opportunity for some years and it ate away at me. These days nothing on earth can or will restrain me. And yes, like my daughter, I appear to have learned some rude words at Upton Park.
If “professional” means writing dry as dust copy, just saying buy or kissing corporate & establishment arse then I admit that I am utterly incapable of being professional. I shall remain an amateur who earns a decent whack writing in an amateurish manner.
But with the greatest of respect to the Bulletin Board Morons, I am fully aware of how many City analysts and financial journalists read my material and some of them are even decent enough to say how much they enjoy it. Peer group praise is perhaps of more interest to me than being accused of being “unprofessional” by selected Bulletin Board Morons. Actually I do not really give a damn about peer group reviews either. As long as I can pay the bills and have a hoot writing who cares what anyone else thinks? I do not.
And finally I am accused of being vindictive towards Sefton and writing only about this one POS Company. Clearly those folks have not noticed that I crank out 5-10 articles a day and, if it is unlucky, about 2 a week concern Sefton. I am sure that the management at Bullabullbullshit PLC, Great Western Mining, Cyan, US Oil & Gas, U308, etc, etc, etc would wish that I was 100% Sefton focussed but I am not. I regard Sefton as the ultimate pin-up model for the AIM Cesspit but my problem is with the failure of the whole market not just with one particular POS Company.
However, Sefton has misled investors on a serial basis. It has publically accused me of market abuse (sorry guys but that complaint got nowhere did it – where’s the apology?) and of making stories up. And its bully boy lawyers have endeavoured (and failed) to stop me following my chosen profession of writing per se. This is not about establishing the truth it is a malicious war against me but also against free speech.
Sefton wants to injunct both myself and Dan. That is its real purpose. Had it obtained an injunction then yesterday’s revelations about Kansas would not have emerged. Ask yourselves how, given the abject failure of Sefton’s Nomad and of AIM regulation in ensuring that Sefton issues accurate RNS statements, it is in anyone’s interests that Dan or I are injuncted? Go on BB Morons…in whose interests would it be?
As such can you blame me for having a go back? Not only is there self-interest involved but, forgetting all issues of personality, exposing companies that issue RNS statements that are factually incorrect is the right thing to do. It is what I have done for 21 years. And despite the best efforts of Sefton Resources and its bully boy lawyers it is what I plan to carry on doing.
And if I use words like frigging or dickhead as I do so you should not be surprised.
And now BB Morons, as you sit sweating and salivating at your laptops posting drivel when not watching kiddie porn, I am off for a swim in the hotel pool before making a call to Denver with the aim of dishing out some more ground-breaking news later today.

Last summer we thought that we had heard the last of the dreadful author of crap books Louise Mensch after she got bored of being a Tory MP and quit to spend more time with her family in the US. I guess it is late morning NY time but Mensch’s poor kids have not seen much of mummy so far today as she has spent all morning on twitter.
First up she stuck the boot into RadFem2013. Good for you Louise.
Then she found comments made by a twitterer called @petercoles44 offensive and started tweeting insanely about how someone should call the Met Police, twitter should boot him off, etc.
Coles has now deleted his tweet which offended Mensch prompting the devoted mother to tweet:
Coles appears to have deleted his tweet before the police come knocking at the door. Now make me a sandwich, troll. #feminism
So it is okay for Mensch to stick the boot into the dungaree wearing loons at RadFem2013 in a way which might offend the crackpot wimmin but if someone says something Mensch finds offensive she threatens to call the Old Bill who – as we know – are all too keen on arresting tweeters.
Ooooooo #Girlpower or should that be #fascistcow or #killfreespeech

UKIP is running a poster at the moment “End EU Open Door Migration.” I disagree almost entirely with UKIP immigration policy as prohibition does not work and for many reasons I have explained numerous times. But the party has a right to express its view.
Deluded lefties always blather on about free speech and human rights to be heard, blah, blah, blah. Except when they disagree with what is being said. And so some deluded lefty tweeting as @binthecondems started complaining to the poster company - and getting others to do so – that the poster was racist.
The poster company is a giant enterprise but the bigger the corporation the more terror it has of being tarred as racist and so the lerfties claim that the poster has been pulled. @binthecondems is delighted and happily tweeting out about how UKIP is full of “bigots” “racists” and “Nazis.” The poster company says it may pull the poster, it is reviewing it.
This will be interesting.
Of course UKIP does not want this tweeter banned from expressing that (factually incorrect) view because it believes in free speech – that is the right of EVERYONE to be heard not just folks with whom you happen to agree. That more limited definition of free speech belongs firmly to the left.

Today the three party leaders will sit down and agree to ever tighter controls on the press. Assuming that he is not getting a blow job from a hooker at the time, Hugh Grant will then invoke the name of Milly Dowler and a 300 year tradition of a free press will draw to a close.
If you trust your politicians to behave with honesty and integrity that is perhaps fine. If you are happy for celebs like Grant to give you the hard sell on their latest movies or useless designer products without knowing why their public image is a sham that is again fine. If you are happy for scandals involving taxpayers cash being wasted, paedophile rings run within local councils and at the BBC to stay hidden and protected, then that is fine.
I suspect that none of us are happy that scandal and corruption will now become harder to expose. I am not.
The established press has done itself no favours. Phone hacking was a disgrace. It was also illegal under existing laws. There is no need for a new law to (in due course) get the collar of Piers Moron and others felt. And the press/Westminster cosy club has done itself no favours. Many of us might think that there is no point in standing up for a free press when so many journalists swap in and out of jobs as spinmeisters and in anticipation of that just toe the lobby line. What is the point of fighting for a free press if so much of the fourth estate is spineless?
But that is not the point. There are always some journalists who are prepared to go out on a limb and those who rule a country need to be held to account if it is to be free. As I reported yesterday in “Cameron you have blood on your hands” there is an increasingly totalitarian shift in the way we are monitored and controlled in Airstrip One and today’s grubby deal agreed by the political class is another step in the wrong direction.
That Nick Clegg can within a fortnight support secret courts and then State control of the press and still lead a party with the word Liberal in it is a total joke. Gladstone, Grimond, Mill et al must be spinning in their graves. That a big State party like Labour agrees with this sort of control-freakery is less surprising but none the less ghastly. As for Call Me Dave, he is a lost cause on so many fronts.
As it happens I suspect that this will merely hasten the demise of the dead-tree press. The past few years have (with the exception of the Telegraph breaking the expenses scandal) seen most of the big exposes comes from internet bloggers. That will happen more and more because we are free from these statutory controls.
In my own world of financial journalism, many of the writers I grew up with are now PR men and women. They cranked out press releases, reprinted favourable “exclusives”, helped set the spin agenda and now have their due reward. Exposing duff companies is just not the way of the mainstream financial press. I looked at the twitter feed of one high profile newspaper tipster the other day and nearly all their followers were PR people and other hacks. It is a cosy bubble. They socialise with each other, talk to each other and the ultimate audience is each other.
And so while Fleet Street may scream and shout, the problem is not just that the establishment wish to keep their grubby secrets, secret but that too much of the press is already part of – or wants to be part of – that same establishment.
That legislation will pass is without doubt. It will make it harder for the established press to expose wrong doings and as such the demise of the established press will be accelerated. But the interwebby thingy is out of the bag. The grubby wrong doings will still be exposed. Fear not.

I have thought about this long and hard. As you may have read on this blog here, Google for me to pay it to advertise this blog elsewhere on the world wide web (it wants my cash) but being a bunch hypocritical frigging puritans it will not allow advertisers who use its adsense network to advertise here because it reckons that this website promotes gambling and contains adult content.
And so I have a choice. I can take down pictures of the UK’s top chanteuse Ms Cheryl Cole in a partial state of undress and remove any elements of swear blogging on my site and take Google’s easy advertising money. Or I can leave the blog unaltered and rely on those who advertise outside the Google network to generate a few pennies.
If this was part of a PLC it would be no contest. You cow tow to the great Google. Frankly I cannot see any PLC I have worked for allowing me to say what I think about a whole range of issues in the first place. But TomWinnifrith.com is not part of a public company. This is my call.
I wonder where the boundaries of Google lie now or will lie in the future. If I cave now would I get an edict in a few months saying that my views on Islamofascism or Global Warming or how you cut the defict or on the Evil Empire are somehow unacceptable. So bollocks to Google. I think that Ms Cole deserves celebrating and I have no intention of holding back on saying what I think in the way that I wish to write. If folks want to read my stuff ( which is patently not encouraging gambling or an adult site) – and the evidence is that they do – then great. My hope is that those advertisers who operate outside the Google dictatorship do well from this site and the Google sheep advertisers lose out.
As such, if you are in the habit of spread betting please consider clicking on the London Capital button on my homepage and transferring some trade to a new account there. Use that link and this site generates a few pence every time you trade. London capital is financially solid ( it has stacks of cash) and offers the same sort of service as all big spreadbetting firms. But for NOT using Google they merit support.
I have had a couple of other folks approach me about advertising ex-Google and that is much appreciated. Life is not always about revenue maximisation and the easy route. It should be, if you have a choice, about having some fun while you work. And I continue to hope that the frigging hypocrites and Puritans at Google burn in Hell.

I have just discussed whether page 3 girls should be banned with a feminist. She was quite reasonable about it. Others are not. It is a sign of the decadent decline of or political and media elite that they even regard this as a major issue to start with. Hell’s teeth the country is going bust, our relationship with the EU is utterly broken, we have 9 million economically inactive folks, etc, etc – and yet some insist on getting their knickers in a twist about THIS issue.
Perhaps the simplest way to look at this is to see who supports banning Page 3. Polly Toynbee, Harriet Harman, the Liberal Democrats etc. That should instinctively tell you which side to be on. The other one.
The Toynbee case is that Page 3 should be banned because a) it exploits women and b) it causes men to view women as sex objects/not treat them with respect. Let’s start with the exploitation issue because folks like Toynbee see everything in terms of exploitation. Capitalists give jobs to people who would otherwise not have jobs but because those who own the means of production earn more (or lose everything, Toynbee forgets that part) than the “workers” she sees that as exploitation.
Of course it is not. Capitalism is the best system going for increasing the absolute material wealth and living standards for the most people. And much to Toynbee’s dismay, the other system just did not work. Grudgingly the old trout therefore lives in a capitalist world.
For her and other privately educated members of the elite there is a choice about where you work. It is not the dole or Tesco’s. It is whichever loss making paper is prepared to pony up £300,000 a year for you to serve up lamentable tripe. On a wider scale, those of us lucky to have been born into middle class backgrounds do have some element of choice in determining our terms of trade and where we fit into the capitalist system. But for most folks there is no such choice.
Innate to capitalism (the system that is the most efficient at eliminating absolute poverty) is that most people have to accept jobs where they cannot dictate their terms of trade (i.e. pay) and frankly the jobs they do are the sort Toynbee et al would never consider doing. And so for Katie from Basildon the choice is, in Toynbee’s terms, a pretty grim one: be exploited by Tesco, by Asda or go on the dole. But there is a third way: get your tits out for the Sun. That route offers money, an escape from poverty, an escape from a 9-5 existence and possibly a break into a crap reality TV show. It is exploitation yes (as workers we are all exploited in Toynbee’s world view) but exploitation that offers money, escape from Basildon and possibly a fun lifestyle swilling champagne with moronic football players. Is the world really improved by stopping this?
And then to the second point – Page 3 changes the way men view women. Where is the hard evidence for this? If men wish to see women in a far greater state of undress than Katie from Basildon there are plenty of places to go. One might be any beach in Southern Europe. I spent a summer with topless women walking past me as I sat on the beach. Some looked like Toynbee and others looked like Katie from Basildon with others somewhere in between. In the world of 1970 naked breasts might have been thought rather risqué. Today we just accept them as a normal facet of life. I do not view birds any differently simply because some of them opt to pose topless in the Sun. Not that I read The Sun. Nor is there any evidence that those who do buy the paper view birds differently either.
I accept that some find pictures of topless women distasteful. I find some other things in the press distasteful. Pictures of Polly Toynbee with her kit on, Guardian Op Ed’s written by Hamas Jew hating killers, articles by anyone called Blair, Editorials from the Independent in 1992 explaining why anyone who thought the Euro was a bad idea was a xenophobe and a racist, do I have to go on? But a free society means tolerating that which we find distasteful. I am not forced to read the Guardian, not (as of yet) pay for it and Toynbee is not forced to read the Sun and the State should have no right to dictate what appears in either paper.
The Toynbee approach is one that (albeit in a trivial way) accepts that the State has the right to determine newspaper content. It is one that denies opportunity to folk less fortunate than herself, those who have far fewer choices about which role they play in a capitalist world and it does nothing for women, except consigning a few more of them to leading a life based on a career as a shop assistant at Tesco.
The Toynbee rule stands firm: if Polly supports a cause, that cause is a duff one.

Some welfare scrounging criminal moron wore a T-shirt “one less pig – perfect justice” just after the recent murder of two policewomen. The “B” side of his T-shirt noted “Kill a cop for fun.co.uk.” He is a vile scumbag. He is beneath contempt. I do not agree with his opinions for a second. But he is now in jail for 8 months (4 months relating to his T-shirt design, the rest to an earlier offence). This is all wrong. It is Orwellian and frightening.
It comes just after some other total scumbag posted his offensive thoughts about something or other on Facebook and was sent down for three months. Both were convicted under a Section 4A Public Order Offence (displaying writing or other visible representation with intention of causing harassment, alarm or distress).
As it happens the T-shirt moron was not referring to the recent police deaths. He has a long running feud with the Old Bill after the death in custody of his son three years ago. But that is irrelevant.
We now live in a Society where if you “distress” either the mores of the State or attack one of its organs directly you can go to prison. How do you define distress? I find Islamofascists holding placards with a swastika inside the Star of David something that causes me distress. But the State opts to do nothing. There is more chance of the State prosecuting me for using the term Islamofascist following a complaint that it caused distress to the wife of Mr Hamza as she contemplates life alone in her £1 million Council Mansion while her husband is er…detained elsewhere.
The point is that the selection of who is “distressed” is utterly arbitrary. And the State is using it selectively. Instinctively, as a libertarian, I do not trust the State whichever second rate career politicians are nominally in charge. Please do not prosecute me Call Me Dave for causing distress by calling you second rate… I am aware that the law as it stands does allow you to do just that.
Free speech, a concept that once upon a time was cherished means that we can all say or write whatever we want. If I choose to write offensive things about Madeleine McCann or Dead Policeman, society will show its disapproval as most folks exercise their right to free speech in condemning me. That is as it should be. But when the State has the power to decide what can be said and who is worthy of protection from hostile comment (those who work for the State + celebs) you tread on very dangerous ground indeed.
Banging up this jerk with a T-shirt will cost the taxpayer tens of thousands in prison and legal fees. The case has wasted weeks of Police time. And it is wrong.

I have been sent evidence which suggests that the picture of a cat being crucified in Ghana in fact shows not a group of Muslims but might in fact be a group of evangelical Christians. I am happy to accept that this may be the case or they could in fact just be a group of scumbags of no religion. I have amended the article accordingly. This rather reinforces my comment in my original piece that:
I loathe religious extremism and intolerance in all religions (perhaps one reason that I find it so hard to have any faith at all – it is not the quirky beliefs, just some of the believers who put me off).
I also loathe anyone who is cruel to cats. Full stop.
However, that is not to say that there is any doubt that extremist Moslems do hang gays, want to sweep the Jews into the Sea, shoot political prisoners for Eid etc. And as I noted in the article it would help for a greater understanding between different faiths if the vast majority of Moslems ( who are good folk) reacted by saying that this was all wrong rather than by suggesting that anyone who dares question their faith is bone headed Neanderthal.
On this matter I refer you to a report in today’s Daily Mail here which argues that there is proof that Jesus was not celibate but was in fact married to an ex prostitute, Mary Magdelene.
I am simply not interested in debating whether Jesus married a hooker or not. The point is that the Daily Mail is able to publish this piece without facing widespread protests, flag burning and its reporters across Europe being killed by angry mobs. I wonder what the reaction would be if it had suggested the same thing about a prophet behind a certain other religion?
This is not a debate about which religion is good or bad. I do not believe in any of them. It is about free speech and the ability of us all to discuss in a free and open manner both religious theory and also the actions of those who claim to act in the name of whichever prophet the follow.

Was the link to the cat being crucified a link to a bogus picture? It appears so. My apologies for that. It may well be that the cat crucifiers were evangelical Christians. I shall not be taking my cats to any Alpha courses in Ghana in a hurry. Or the crucifiers could just be scumbags. Maybe Tara and Oakley will not go on holiday to Ghana at all? But the gist of the article stands and I go further today (see above).
For the avoidance of doubt those who recirculate this picture claiming that it shows Islam in a bad light, knowing full well that it is false, are utterly beyond reproach.
However, are we allowed to say that some members of the Islamic community are vile extremists? Apparently not. If you suggest that you are, it appears, by definition a bone-headed neanderthal. I almost give up on this country.
The cat picture is false but my “crime” is that I have also run other pieces condemning Islamic extremism.
I have suggested that those members of the global Moslem community who want to hang gays, drive the Jews into the sea, shoot prisoners to celebrate Eid, etc are not very nice folk. They are Islamofascist scumbags. I stand by that 100%.
Nowhere have I stated that all Moslems are scumbags. Indeed I have stated explicitly, on a number of occasions, that the vast majority of Moslems are good folk and it is the small minority who distort the word of the Prophet Mohammad who are the problem. I loathe religious extremism and intolerance in all religions (perhaps one reason that I find it so hard to have any faith at all – it is not the quirky beliefs, just some of the believers who put me off). It is just that right now the Moslem religion seems to be throwing up more than its fair share of extremists and of those who seek to deny free speech ( which I do believe in). Incidentally, Iran raised the bounty on the head of Mr Rushdie yet again yesterday.
I have also noted that I support unlimited immigration (combined with a wholesale reform of the welfare state affecting ALL those who live in the UK, irrespective of where they were born) as we should actually desire more workers who are skilled and/or hard working and want to come here. I have written extensively about holocaust matters and in support of gay rights.
Yet for questioning the actions of a small minority of extremists who claim to act in the name of the prophet I get a tweet asking “Do you have sympathies for the English Defence League”. I do not. They are also scumbags. I try to point out all the articles I have written (not just one link I have posted) and am greeted with “Will watch out for Mo Farah crucifying cat after next race.” Bollocks. Some people are so bloody stupid.
My correspondent has just got back to me to say that he knows hundreds of Moslems who are good decent people. I am sure he does. As I noted above, “the vast majority” of Moslems ( including my friend Zak Mir – godfather to my daughter- and my cousin’s charming husband Rana) are great folk. Most Moslems are great folk. Can I be more explicit?
It is terrible that all Moslems are tarred with the same brush. To stop this it would help if the vast majority of Moslems who are good folk stood up and said “we do not want to hang gays, sweep all the Jews into the sea, see political prisoners shot to celebrate Eid but do believe in free speech.” Merely accusing those who question the actions of extremists of being a neanderthal nuckle-dragger does not exactly help the cause of brotherly love.

The Duchess of Kate is going to sue whichever tawdry French rag published pictures of her topless. Whatever you want Kate. Personally I would not have published them because it is an invasion of her privacy, it is not in the public interest and, above all, it is really very boring indeed. But what the Royal Family and the British Establishment fail to understand is the sheer pointlessness of it all.
We say it with those gagging orders designed to stop us know that Andrew Marr and Ryan Giggs were playing away from home and various other celeb matters which were so dull that I have forgotten about them already. We see it with Kate.
If you wish to see her topless you can now see the photos in the tawdry French rag, an Italian rag, the Irish Daily Star, the Brokerman Daniel website. If you do not wish to pay to see these images you can see them for free all over the internet. A google search for images of “Kate Middleton topless” just turned up 318 million results for me. I took it no further but you get my drift.
Kate may well win her case and the lawyers and her chosen charity will benefit. But in the global internet age if you are a Royal or a celeb the reality is that you have no real privacy. I am sorry but that is just life. Gagging orders and legal threats achieve nothing. It is not an ideal situation and I feel a bit sorry for poor Kate but she and the rest of “the firm” just need to appreciate that the world has changed. If Kate does not want her boobs to be seen by all she needs to keep her bra on. If Ryan Giggs does not want the world to know that he shagged some slapper his brother married, he should not have shagged her. It is that simple.

You thought that Adolf Hitler was the last deranged German who thought he had the power to fully integrate Europe? Think again. Meet Martin Schulz the President of the European Parliament and this week’s prize EU loon of the week. It is hard to know where to start but how about with a press release out today as we prepare to mark “International Day of Democracy” which – in case you missed it is tomorrow.
Hitler. Ooops sorry Schulz starts off with “The renewed democratic momentum, which we have witnessed in the course of this past year, has confirmed what we in the European Parliament have always held to be true: People around the world want to live in a democracy. They want to choose their government, be able to express their opinions, and have opportunities to participate in economic and political life. They want elected representatives that hold those in power to account. They want a framework that ensures the rule of law and justice for all.
We see it so clearly in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya with the first fair, genuine elections for decades, and in gradual reforms in many of the countries of the region. “
Has this loon been watching TV recently? Or has he been helping himself to too much of the Evil Empire’s wine lake? It strikes me that Egypt and Libya (and anywhere else that the EU and US has stuck its nose in, across the Middle East) are not exactly heading the right way. Given the choice between multi-party democracy and a progressive free speech and civil rights agenda and free speech or living in an Islamofascist hell hole where US officials get butchered, gays are hung, Jews vilified and a one party theocracy established, they seem rather keen on the latter.
But back to Hitler, oops sorry Schulz, and his views on the Evil Empire. That flagship of democracy where folks are sometimes allowed referenda but if they vote the wrong way they have to vote again.
“The European Parliament is reaching out to parliaments in our neighbourhood and beyond, helping build strong parliamentary institutions which are necessary for public debate and for people’s representatives effectively to do what citizens expect from them. Our citizens expect to have their interests and needs duly reflected in the responses we offer to the economic crisis.”
Reaching out? So that would be by the EU imposing 50% of the new laws enacted in the UK on us without us having any veto would it be?
But back to the economic crises. The Kraut bangs on:
“Power of the people must always prevail over the power of the markets. The response to the crisis has been a challenge, not only in economic and social terms but also for democracy and more particularly parliaments in Europe. Europeans want their elected representatives to be more closely involved in developing the response to the crisis. Citizens expect the European Union to deliver. They expect bold steps from strong European institutions. In that, more than before, our citizens count on us, Members of the European Parliament, to make their voice heard.”
So if the people of Greece vote for crooks who are happy to spend more than they can afford you are okay with that Herr Schultz? Really?
Sadly this nonsense goes on…
‘Dialogue and inclusiveness’ is the theme of this year’s International Day of Democracy. These are the key ingredients of a political culture based on tolerance and mutual respect. Dialogue between different political forces and dialogue between politicians and citizens are essential in finding effective solutions. And democratic politicians must ensure that conflict and competition amongst us respect basic rules and do not erode the institutions and the trust that citizens put in them.
Hell’s teeth we would never want to risk eroding the trust that we all have in the European Parliament would we? That would be dreadful. But we are in safe hands with Martin, who continues…
“I would like to encourage all Members of Parliament and all Europeans to take the International Day of Democracy, which we celebrate this Saturday, as an invitation to engage in dialogue about the state of democracy and how we can jointly overcome the problems we are currently facing. We should remember that democracy thrives on participation and is threatened by apathy, fear and intolerance as much as it may be by economic challenges. We must not take democracy for granted.“
And Schultz then makes his own contribution to that debate with a call for far deeper integration within the EU which means more powers taken away from member states and transferred to Brussels. To folks like him.
My contribution for tomorrow: “Dear David Cameron. Can we please have an immediate referendum on whether we wish to stay part of the Evil Empire as it moves to ever deeper integration or whether we want our sovereignty back?”

I am used to getting hostile comment when I post an internet article which says anything other than buy. If you pour slavish praise on a stock ( however crap it is) you will have praise heaped upon you. Until it goes belly up at which point you are a total loser. But if you dare to suggest that a stock is overvalued you just get abuse. I feel I must bring you some abuse I got today from America.
The article is the one I published earlier on Trina Solar. I am delighted to see that this $320 million capitalised stock has lost 6% today on the back of the piece – there is a link to it lower down on this page. The piece points out that the company’s balance sheet is a train wreck and that it is losing money hand over fist and as such the stock is not worth very much given that industry fundamentals get worse by the day. But I appear to have made two errors.
Firstly I expressed my personal view that global warming was bogus. That attracted the usual stream of abuse from those who adopted an almost religious fervour in suggesting that I was mad. “how dare you suggest that the earth is not flat? Peer group reviews by 99% of cardinals prove that the earth is flat!” I fear that I am about to be summoned to visit the Inquisition in person as I am ordered to repent.
My second error was to suggest that some Chinese companies might go bust. How can they when the 5 year plan has committed to 550 billion of investment asks DSDong76771.
Er… because Chinese politicians are likely to be just as useless as Western ones in “picking winners” to piss away other folks money on.
DSDong76771 is a hoot. I want him or her to comment on my articles more often. I reprint his/her comment in full as I feel that for pure comedy value in merits a wider audience. Over to you DS…
This arthor and a lots of bashers from wall st predict the ldk, tsl, jaso etc will go to dust?
It is ridiculous because they are no clue for China.
China put solar on the first priority for renewable energy. 550 bil for
the 5 years plan. 50 GW by 2020, that means 2500% exploded than
2011. In such a big picture, how solar could be dead.
US Federal Banks can print the billions money for QE1 and QE2. What about China? China has 2 tril dollars for reservation. China will let its major solars go under?
Use your brain! and shut up for your bashes.

Like most celebs, when she offers up her opinion on world affairs Madonna can usually be guaranteed to get it completely wrong. She usually proposes the wrong solution to a problem to be fixed with other folks cash. But just occasionally she gets it right. I am not sure about her motives but following my new resolution to be more positive about life, well done to Madonna, the scrawny old bag has excelled herself in Russia.
Her outburst in Putin’s paradise is a twinned pronged attack. Performing in St Petersburg, a City where until 1999 homosexuality was classed as a mental disease, and where homophobia is a very real issue, she has spoken up in favour of gay rights. I suspect that there are more repressed minorities in Russia but they are perhaps less fashionable minorities to support but so what everyone deserves equal rights under the law and basic respect. It is still unlawful to “promote” homosexuality in Russia. But as we found in the UK with the infamous Clause 28 of the Local Government Act, such legislation achieves nothing other than encouraging prejudice and making life harder for teenagers wresting with their sexuality.
Legislation like this does not stop anyone being gay, it just makes those who are gay less likely to be, er, happy. The fact that leading members of both the State and the Church in Russia regularly equate homosexuality with paedophilia just shows that this is not a terribly advanced and tolerant society.
Secondly Madonna has spoken out on behalf of and worn a (lack of) outfit showing support for an all girl punk group called “Pussy Riot” who currently languish in prison for coming up with an anti Putin song. To save you doing a google search and coming up with unintended results I bring you the offending video below.
I do not know what to say. For Putin to lock up these young ladies for criticising him is clearly intolerable. Having listened to their music I could think of other reasons for keeping them away from a recording studio. If you managed to listen only to a short burst, fear not, you missed nothing. In fact it got worse. Maybe it lost something in translation? But who am I (or Putin) to act as an arbiter of taste? As long as they do not expect the State to subsidize them, if there is a market for this appalling noise then Pussy Riot can carry on recording and, like all of us, they should be allowed to criticise their leaders. Especially murderous, corrupt bastards like Vladimir Putin.
The Soviet establishment is not happy. The deputy PM has branded Madonna a Moralising Slut. By that he explains that she used to be a slut but now moralises. His advice to the crucifix wearing chanteuse: “Either take off your cross or put your knickers back on.” Deputy PM Rogozin was, as I am sure you have guessed, in a former life a senior diplomat.
These days I try not to think about Madonna’s rather muscular and unattractive body but it is hers to dress, undress and do what she wants with. And if Madonna wishes to preach, Rogozin can always preach back if he thinks he has a case. But of course he does not. So Mr Deputy PM, papa don’t preach. Meanwhile a Church leader has urged good Christians to phone in bomb hoaxes ahead of her concert. I am racking my brains to remember which part of the New Testament could possibly be interpreted as encouraging such action but for the moment it escapes me.
Just to show that the St Petersburg Legislature take all thus unreasonable behaviour seriously I have good news, they are going to act. The Church leader and preaching papa Rogozin have done nothing wrong. Madonna is being investigated and may be fined. And the trial of Pussy Riot continues. Right, that is all fine and dandy then.
Incidentally, re-watching the video for Like a Prayer, a most excellent song (as William S Preston would have put it), you get a reminder of how Madonna is a great one for creating controversy in order to generate ticket/record sales. And so I am vaguely suspicious of her motives. But the rarity of a celeb being so 100% correct on an issue (and not demanding that we hand over cash to support it) means that, whatever her motives, I applaud her completely. As for the Russian church and state, someone needs to remind them that at the end of the twentieth century we moved into the 21st century not the nineteenth.
PS. Like a Prayer is so totally most excellent and also as a reminder of Madonna trying to be controversial for the sake of it, I also bring you that video.

I used to post the odd thing on the Linkedin Friends of Greece discussion board. I did not do much as it is moderated and they have an attitude to free speech worthy of the 1970s Junta rather than, say, Aristotle. But I was proud to have a “friend of Greece” badge on my profile. I am also a Friend of Israel, member of the West Ham supporters group and a few others. I hope to be a friend of Albania soon, when they finally process my application. But it seems that I am now no longer a friend of Greece.
Now I might have resigned in error after the third glass of sparkling red wine in Zitsa. But i think I did not. My last contact was trying to post a link to my piece suggesting that Greece needed to cut prices by 40% (either by quitting the Euro or by just cutting prices) in order to be competitive. That piece was not approved for the group discussion. And now I seem to be an ex-friend of Greece. Coincidence?
A real friend is able to make helpful suggestions even if they are painful to hear. As a friend of Greece I hope that she: defaults on her debts, tackles corruption in public life, leaves the Euro and deregulates business practices. I hope bent politicians go to gaol and folks then start paying their taxes. If this does not happen the economy will continue to tank, tourists will go to Albania and Turkey instead and there will be misery all round. I say that as a friend of Greece, an ardent Hellenophile.
Barring me from pointing out the unpleasant truth on one small discussion board may allow certain folk to stick their heads in the sand. But it will not stop others from saying what I say and writing along similar lines or indeed me saying it on rather bigger platforms. And it will not stop it being grim reality.

Albeit with a delay, I pick up on the news that back in Airstrip One the old bill have knicked some 17 year old saddo from Dorset for tweeting to Tom Daley ( a flop for Britain in the men’s synchronised 10 metre diving) that he had “let his father down.” Daley’s old man died of cancer last year.
I agree that the comment was tasteless. But on what grounds was the saddo knicked and let off with a caution? That he had hurt Daley’s feelings? That he had shown a lack of taste? Well if this is the case might the old bill launch a dawn raid on the small number of folk who under numerous aliases post comments demanding my complete ruin on the ADVFN/iii Bulletin boards? Hoping for someone’s demise is tasteless and I might claim that my feelings were hurt. Tell no lies: sometimes they are.
Before the Old Bill gets ready to launch that Dawn Raid ( and of course they would not bother because I am not a celeb and the laws on these sort of things – well there are not actually any laws but the ones the Police create by using an incredible interpretation of laws meant to tackle real issues – are only for celebs), I am kidding. I cannot see that any actual crime has been committed by the saddo. When a country gets to the state where you can be knicked and cautioned just because the authorities deem what you say to be tasteless if not illegal, or because they just do not like what you said, it is time to get very worried indeed.

You may not have heard of Voula Papachristou but, until last week, she was one of Greece’s few hopes of an Olympic medal. She is not that hard on the eye either. But then the triple jumper tweeted the following “with so many Africans in Greece at least the West Nile mosquitoes will eat homemade food.” Uh oh. There is not actually any guide relating to twitter policy for the Greek Olympic team so she has not actually broken any rules at all but some folks felt it was racist and so she is not going to the Olympics.
Before my place in the UK squad is also withdrawn I should say that her remark was crass and unfunny and it is arguably racist although I am not sure about that – Voula merely expresses the view that there are a lot of Africans in Greece – too many – by implication she would like to see fewer. Logically, therefore does that mean that anyone who feels that there should be any limit at all on the number of foreigners allowed to settle in any country and expresses that view is a racist?
Unless you agree in absolutely unlimited immigration you are a racist? Really. Perhaps this might be clarified to help the rest of us – are we allowed to believe in any limit at all without being racist? Just for the record, as I explain below, I believe in no limits at all. Back to lovely Voula. The reaction and remark says a lot about Greece and our world and it all makes me feel uncomfortable.
Before you judge Voula, or for that matter me, I would urge you to read the piece above this, Petra’s friends to try to understand quite how what you might regard as the normal rules of society have broken down here. That is the context in which you need to understand Voula.
Let us start with why she made that remark. Immigration is an issue here. As in the rest of Europe the establishment won’t allow the matter to be discussed openly because anyone who believes in limits is a racist so must be no platformed. But with unemployment at 27% and rising there is an issue which ordinary Greeks regard as serious about folks who are obviously not Greeks working here.
So the lovely Voula said, albeit in a way that was meant to be funny but sounded crass in a way that so many twitter jokes do what a large number of ordinary Greeks feel to be true and regard as a serious issue. Personally I would have absolutely no barriers to immigration at all on the condition that an immigrant cannot have access to any form of welfare at all (including housing) until he or she has paid taxes for 5 years. Those way welfare scroungers can scrounge of someone else but those who wish to work should always be welcome. And (assuming you had no minimum wage) would thus make your country more competitive by their presence. So Voula and I disagree on the economics of this matter but, make no mistake, it is economics that is driving Voula and many Greeks to feel this way.
Now the thing about Voula is that she has a bit of form. She is an open supporter of Golden Dawn the racist and fascist whackjob party that got 7% in the recent election. Golden Dawn really is a very nasty party indeed.
And so, even though the lovely Voula, has not broken one single rule the Hellenic Olympic Committee has de-selected her from the Games. She is not banned, you understand, because she has not actually transgressed any code or law, she is just made a non-competitor in an extra judicial process. There is no right of appeal. That is it.
The Olympics are meant to be above politics. Of course they never are but I shall humour the Hellenic Olympic Committee on this one. What I wonder would have happened had Voula been an open supporter of one of the two established parties, the crooked pie eaters Pasok and New Democracy. What, I wonder, would have happened had she been a supporter of the deranged communists of Kappa Kappa? Would her card have been marked? I doubt it and she could have opined on more or less anything. Except this issue. She is not allowed to express her view that there are too many immigrants in Greece.
I rather think that this is one of the lesser problems facing Hellas. But the way to lance the boil is to take on Voula head on and point out that there are not really that many Africans here. Frigging hell, you’d have to be a pretty thick economic migrant to go to Greece in search of work – anyone bright enough to travel thousands of miles in search of work, is probably bright enough to go the extra few miles and go somewhere where there actually is some work. The way things are going, Greeks are soon going to be skipping off to Chad and Upper Volta in search of a better life.
And you should take on Voula and point out that the reason that unemployment is 27% and rising is that Greece is corrupt as hell and needs a big dose of Thatcherism and a floating currency (the drachma) to sort out its economy. Argue the point do not try to suppress discussion as that only gives credibility to evil men at a time when society is breaking down and folks look for those who claim to have definite solutions.
The sad truth is that banning the lovely Voula has given the racists who cannot debate on facts a glamorous pin-up girl who will attract sympathy and allow the evil men of Golden Dawn to argue that the pie-eaters of the establishment are covering up the truth.
And one of the reasons that will have so much traction is the austerity programme. To misquote Leona Helmsley on the subject of tax “We don’t do austerity. Only the little people suffer austerity.” There may be less Euros for the political elite and the sort of establishment fellows who sit on the Hellenic Olympic Committee to steal these days but they are still eating plenty of pies. And as such they are increasingly detached from ordinary Greeks. And that is why what was a 2 party state (Pasok and ND) is one where freaks like Golden Dawn and the, almost as mad but not racist, SYRIZA are now attracting so much support.
That support will grow as either austerity measures bite ever deeper or Greece is chucked out of the Euro and goes bust. Many folks despised ND/Pasok but regarded Euro exit as a humiliation only the 2 old parties could avoid. When the exit does happen there will be no reason to support the old pie eaters any more. Heaven knows what happens next, but the brutal treatment of Voula for expressing a concern which the pie eaters will not discuss or address will only convince more folks that maybe Golden Dawn has a point.
This is a frightened place. The people are scared and uncertain. Read about Petra’s friends and understand why anything can happen. Who knows they might bring back the Monarchy (Phil the Greek for King). They won’t but it would be a hell of a lot less damaging than some of the alternatives on offer. As for Voula. I am with Voltaire. I disagree with everything she has said and stands for and the fact that she supports Golden Dawn means that she is probably pretty thick or a racist or both, but I defend to the death her right to say it. And she should have gone to the games where I would have hoped that she would have come fourth. Behind three athletes from Africa.

Louise Mensch MP is thick as two short planks. That should be obvious to anyone who has heard her talk about her life with Charlie and her thoughts on drug use that resulted from it; or about how falling petrol prices were down to Tory rule or indeed to anyone who has investigated quite how truly dreadful her books are. I promised that I would have just one more look at the sheer inadequacy of what passes for her thought process and so we turn to her suggestion made on April 25th this year that the grateful taxpayer needs to subsidise local papers.
Where do you start with such utter cobblers?
The Mensch thesis is that local papers closing is a “threat to democracy.” Er… please go on. This is because only local rags will cover expense fiddling by back bench MPs and scandals in the local town hall. And so Mensch seems to think that without the local rag, the electorate will not get to hear what a bunch of crooks we have representing us? It appears so. I offer an alternative suggestion: that any MP/Councillor caught fiddling his/her expenses is automatically a) prosecuted b) forced to resign from public office without compensation. That would be a bit more of a deterrent than a front page splash in the local rag which is probably only relevant for MPs in marginal seats, rather than safe seats. Maybe we only need the subsidy for local rags in marginal seats then?
Mensch continues that it is wrong for local TV stations to get a subsidy when the local rags do not. Well she is half right. Neither should.
The MP for Corby attributes her win at the last election to her coverage in the local press. Do not be too hard on yourself love. The National swing from Labour to Conservative was 5%. The swing in Corby was 3.4%. That you did less well than your party nationally could have been down to the local press revealing the merits of the respective candidates. Or it could just have been that some diehard Tories had read one of your books and so felt a compelling need to vote Labour. We shall never know. As ever with a Mensch claim this one is just so obviously spurious you almost have to laugh.
But there are rather more obvious issues I have with the Mensch view. Does the silly woman not realise that the UK Government is going bust? We will soon lose our AAA rating. Government debt to GDP is anywhere between 65% and 200% depending on how you calculate it and it is increasing sharply. There is no money. To use imagery she might understand: it is like when you are at University and have spent up to your overdraft limit on Charlie and you ask your parents for more cash. At some stage your parents/ the bank providing the overdraft will say no. Britain is at that point now. What does Mensch not understand about this?
Secondly, if the state borrows money to subsidise any industry, knowing it will not be repaid, those borrowings must be serviced and repaid by taxing productive industries and individuals more. You will thus put other folks out of work. And in misallocating capital in this way you ensure an acceleration of the long term decline on the UK. The Government should be spending less so that there is less burden on the taxpaying base so that the private sector and individuals can spend more of their own cash and capital can be allocated more efficiently.
And last but not least. The State should never subsidise the press. If it does it either means that flatulent organisations produce content no-one cares about which is not necessarily of the highest quality. Yes I am talking about the BBC. Or it will inevitably restrict the freedom of the press to attack the state and its rulers since the press knows that what can be given can easily be taken away. Mensch would, no doubt, say that we should trust our leaders not to behave in such a manner or that safeguards would be put in place. But whilst our current bunch of expense fiddling MPS might be considered honourable enough to win trust in some quarters (not by me) there is no guarantee that a future intake could be trusted. And they could over-rule those (no doubt costly) safeguards Mensch put in place to start with.
If local rags are closing because they have a falling ( and generally old) readership I am afraid that is life. There is even less reason for taxpayers to keep them afloat than there was for taxpayers to subsidise coal mines with no coal or British Leyland.
Okay, that is it for now on Mensch. Until she says something else which is beyond stupid. I do not expect we will have that long to wait.
