I do not look back at my old University with some of the unbridled love that others show. Indeed, at times of stress, my nightmare is of again sitting finals and being even more at sea than I was the first time around. About once a week James Delingpole remarks about how our alma mater has gone to the dogs and, he has a point, it does seem to be a nest of silliness these days.
This week we have seen the Geography department take down a picture of one of its more famous graduates as part of an exhibition celebrating famous women who attended the University. It had been "obscured" by critical messages, that is to say it had been "plastered" with messages about issues including immigration, Windrush and Brexit.
A university spokesman said removing Theresa May's picture was "absolutely not done to make a political point". Nope it was taken down because students who do not believe in free speech had kicked up a fuss and so effectively "no platformed" the portrait.
In the same week we learn that male students at the formerly all women's college Somerville had engaged in a "dirty protest" that is to say they had pissed on the floors of what are now unisex urinals in protest at the removal of male and female only loos. This removal was done in order not to offend transgender students.
Given that, even at Somerville, there cannot be that many transgender students (trans folks in Britain being fewer in number than those identifying as Jedi knights) so surely this loo changing business is excessive. I stand by my reactionary view that, if my daughter gets into Oxford, I'd rather she did not encounter someone with a penis zipping himself up in the toilets even if he does identify as a woman. I am not sure I'd piss on the floor to make my point but since I imagine that it is impossible to debate the issue without being termed a bigot, as happened to poor uber liberals Peter Tatchell and Germaine Greer, maybe pissing on the floor is now the only option.
Then there are proposals to make exams longer so that women get better marks, constant demands to tear down statues of dead white men who gave vast sums to Oxford often allowing living non-white people their only chance to attend. Christian Union's get banned from college fresher's fairs since they might offend LGBT folks. Natch the Islamic society faces no such problems.
The whole institution is just a nest of silliness, desperate not to offend anyone unless they straight, Christian or a Tory in which case they deserve to be offended in a ritualistic manner..
The big storm right now is about how Oxford can ensure that more state school kids attend. The high point for state school attendance was in the mid six when more progressive dons in charge of entrance encountered more bright and well taught kids than ever before from state schools, that is to say grammar schools. Then in the name of progress, grammar schools were scrapped, and fewer state school kids went to Oxford. It was not that the Dons became less progressive. Au contraire. Most Oxford Dons are ball-breakingly PC. It is just that there were fewer decent candidates from non public schools.
Those state school kids that did get in were often incredibly posh. I remember one terrible brat who was in my year and my college who made great play about how she had attended a London state school. Yeah right, deprived inner city kid and all that. Except that it soon emerged that her dad was an old Etonian, ex Labour MP and she grew up in a mansion. But heck her presence and that of Guardian employed Russia conspiracy fantasising lunatic Carole Cadwalladr from the poshest comprehensive in Cardiff - its great if mummy and daddy can afford to buy into the catchment area - boosted the stats making them pretty meaningless anyway.
But Oxford will ensure that more kids from posh state schools, where mummy and daddy can afford to buy £2 million houses as "the entrance test," are admitted so making the quotas look better. The real problem of course is that we need to bring back grammar schools and sack some of the half witted teachers and head teachers who make the UK state education system such an A* for everybody complete and utter joke. But will anyone at progressive Oxford dare to say that, in an institution where, these days, even portraits get no platformed for being, vaguely, right wing?

Across the West the story is the same. Offended snowflakes object - or in some cases far worse - and craven academics cancel events or no platform speakers. This is a matter I am now all too familiar with after giving this most excellent talk at Bath Spa University. It is surely only a matter of time before some liberal arts faculty somewhere organises a book burning. Today's demonstration of the Orwellian nature of the liberal arts campus of today comes from McMaster University in Hamilton Canada.
For years, as the great Mark Steyn has discovered to his cost, the Canadian thought police have been out to stifle free speech but under the ludicrous clown Justin Trudeau life in the socialist hell hole to the North of the land of the free has got much worse.
And thus over at McMaster the anti-poverty group Overcome the Gap organised a panel discussion “Tolerating Intolerance: A Discussion on Free Speech.”
Naturally there were complaints from those who find the idea of a discussion on free speech where one of the panellist was a conservative thinker. There were not a lot of complaints but a few and therefore the discussion on free speech has had to be cancelled because of “concerns about the safety of the event.”
In 1984, sorry 2018, in La La Campus land you cannot discuss free speech because that might offend someone. Monty Python could not have made up anything so ridiculous. Time and again these episodes demonstrate two things: one is the intolerance of too many students to those who have ideas which conflict with what they regard as "settled", ideas outside a very narrow mindset. The second is the sheer cowardice of academics who simply do not dare stand up to the intolerant bedwetting millennials.
To those academics, with apologies to Pastor Niemoller:
First they came for the conservatives and I did nothing because I hate the fucking Tories too...
Then they came for the University Christian Society claiming it was homophobic and I did nothing because anyone who believes in the sort of old fashioned nonsense gets what they deserve
Then they came for gay rights and feminist icons Peter Tatchell and Germaine Greer for daring to question the new trans agenda and I did nothing because I was too busy reading the Guardian
Then they came for me for not giving them a 2-1 as was their human right even though they had done no work at all and were very stupid and there was no-one left to speak for me

One of the few joys of the transgender madness, promoted by the elitists of the liberal media, and now raging across the West is seeing uber PC lefties such as Germaine Greer and Peter Tatchell fall foul of this new lobby, no platformed and accused of bigotry becuase they just cannot keep up. Want to avoid such a fate? Thankfully I can help.
US based Trans Student Educational Resources describes itself as "the only national organization led entirely by transgender youth. While TSER members do have specific roles, we purposely do not have an executive director or management to make sure all levels of the organization have a voice and operate collectively." And collectively TSER has produiced a handy guide to what you can and cannot say.
For instance you must not use the word transsexual as it is "A deprecated term that is often considered pejorative." Okay so I will not use it ever. Uh oh hang on. "When speaking/writing about trans people, please avoid the word transsexual unless asked to use it by a transsexual person." Cripes I am confused already.
Lets crack on with the trans agenda. ... Oh you mean Agender:
Agender: An umbrella term encompassing many different genders of people who commonly do not have a gender and/or have a gender that they describe as neutral. Many agender people are trans. As a new and quickly-evolving term, it is best you ask how someone defines agender for themselves.
Oh right so your agender means whatever you want it to mean. Thanks for that.
Cissexism: Systemic prejudice in the favor of cisgender people. Gosh who are these lucvk Cisgender folks?
Cis(gender): Adjective that means “identifies as their sex assigned at birth” derived from the Latin word meaning “on the same side.” A cisgender/cis person is not transgender. “Cisgender” does not indicate biology, gender expression, or sexuality/sexual orientation. In discussions regarding trans issues, one would differentiate between women who are trans and women who aren’t by saying trans women and cis women. Cis is not a “fake” word and is not a slur. Note that cisgender does not have an “ed” at the end.
So a normal bloke or bird then? Go straight to hell Winnifrith you insenstive bastard.
LGBTQQIAPP+: A collection of identities short for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, aromantic, pansexual, polysexual (sometimes abbreviated to LGBT or LGBTQ+). Sometimes this acronym is replaced with “queer.” Note that “ally” is not included in this acronym.
An ally is what used to be known as a "supportive straight" in less complicated times gone by.
I save the best to last.
AFAB and AMAB: Acronyms meaning “assigned female/male at birth” (also designated female/male at birth or female/male assigned at birth). No one, whether cis or trans, gets to choose what sex they’re assigned at birth. This term is preferred to “biological male/female”, “male/female bodied”, “natal male/female”, and “born male/female”, which are defamatory and inaccurate.
Bring on the asteroid strike

This is a bit sensitive as the Mrs is a senior lecturer at Bath Spa. This morning I wished her well as she headed off to campus to fill the empty heads of impressionable millennials full of left wing nonsense and told her that I hoped she enjoyed the book burning or whatever else was planned by her cowardly employer today. For Bath Spa is in the news.
Therapist James Caspian paid Bath Spa (until 2005 a college of Higher Education) to do a thesis on people who decide to reverse gender reassignment operations, what is termed " "detransition" in the politically correct Newspeak of 2017. Caspian is no dangerous evil right winger but is a counsellor who specialises in therapy for transgender people. He had observed a number of men who had had their gonads chopped as part of becoming women and then opted to reverse that call. Data suggests that c5% of trans folks decide to detransition.
If 5% make that amazing decision I wonder how many others consider it? We are constantly told by the trans community that they are imprisoned in the wrong body and all have a right to trans. Frankly that may or may not be the case but surely the incidence of detransitioning and contemplation of detransitioning is a worthwhile study. To ignore it seems wrong. But Bath Spa has now told Mr Caspian that he cannot do his study.
He stated that"The fundamental reason given was that it might cause criticism of the research on social media and criticism of the research would be criticism of the university and they also added it was better not to offend people," and Bath Spa appears not to disagree.
In the past, Universities encouraged debate, free speech and academic enquiry. No doubt some folks were offended by suggestions that the earth was not flat or that man was not created in seven days by God. Would Bath Spa have shut down research which investigated alternative theories too? Its decision is sheer cowardice by an institution obsessed with political correctness.
One can only imagine that the decision to detransition is the most appalling one to make. If academic research might allow fewer folks to suffer such torment what is to be lost in pursuing it?
I trust that Mr Caspian will be drummed off campus in a torchlight parade tonight while his research notes are thrown onto a fire also containing the books of Germaine Greer and anyone else questioning the one true narrative when it comes to transexuals. It would be offensive to allow any further debate on the matter.

I have noted many times before how free speech no longer exists on campuses across the West. If you pursue a politically correct strict liberal orthodoxy you can say what you want. Anything goes. All men are animals and wannabe rapists, white folks must be ashamed of all their crimes and so are innately evil racists. Heterosexuals should be under-represented in Parliament. Trans is the new normal. Its okay to say you want to assassinate President Trump. The Jewish state acts like Nazis and has no right to exist. All those statements are, to me, obscene and/or untrue but on campuses across Britain and the US they are repeated and accepted as fine every day.
Those who dare to disagree whether they be evil conservatives such as Ann Coulter or uber-liberals like Germaine Greer or the great Peter Tatchell ho just slipped up (usually on Trans issues) then you get no platformed. Try saying something really controversial like the British Empire did a lot of good (which it did), Britain did more to abolish slavery than any African state has ever done (again true) or that climate change is pure fiction (which it is) and as an academic, your career is toast even if the remarks are made in private.
The latest lunacy comes from Edinburgh where a spiky law student Robbie Travers responded to news that the Americans just dropped a vast bomb on ISIS fighters with a facebook post: "Excellent news that the US administration and Trump ordered an accurate strike on an IS network of tunnels in Afghanistan. “I’m glad we could bring these barbarians a step closer to collecting their 72 virgins.”
You and I might say "spot on" - I find it hard to disagree with the view that the only good ISIS fighter is a dead ISIS fighter. The acts committed by ISIS over the past few years are the acts of barbarians. Think of the beheadings, think of burning folks alive in cages or immersing a cage full of prisoners into a swimming pool and filming the poor men as they drown. Think about the mass rape and enslavement of thousands of captured women. Think of the poor homosexuals chucked off the top of buildings. ISIS are barbarians and they do believe that the reward for their barbarity is to go to heaven to shag 72 virgins. So any rational person would agree that Mr Travers is bang on the money. At the very least he has a right to such an opinion.
Oh no. Step forward Esme Allman a second-year history student and the former black and ethnic minority convenor of the university’s students’ association, who filed a complaint to the university, saying: “Not only do I believe this behaviour to be in breach of the student code of conduct, but his decision to target the BME Liberation Group at the University of Edinburgh, and how he has chosen to do so, puts minority students at risk and in a state of panic and fear while attending the University of Edinburgh.”
The University said that it would investigate poor Mr Travers for a hate crime. He then inflamed the situation by posting a note saying "black men are trash". Got him. Fair cop. The guy is a bigot. Send him down. Oh hang on. In fact it was Ms Allman who posted on her facebook site "To conclude, black men are trash. All men are trash." Mr Travers merely pointed out that she has posted this rubbish. This got him reported again by Ms Allman who said "Travers published a decontextualised quote by Allman from a privileged conversation generated by minority students in a safe space he is neither subscribed to nor a member of, without her consent."
Aha so it is okay to make a bigoted comment in a private group (not sure your facebook page counts as such) as that is not a problem. Really? One assumes that Ms Allman would be fine with the Klu Klux Klan organising at Edinburgh as long as all their comments were made in a "safe space" private forum? Of course she would not. She has been exposed as a serial spouter of shite.
But in taking this appalling young woman seriously and in investigating Travers for his original remark celebrating the demise of the ISIS barbarians Edinburgh shows how again how the liberal left world of academia has completely abandoned all ideas of supporting free speech or indeed of common sense.
And it is in this brave new world in which our kids are apparently being taught how to think for themselves. Once again I despair.

So much for free speech and the left. A group of high school students were on a day out in Washington DC. one of the girls in the group was wearing a Donald Trump baseball cap and another a T shirt proclaiming her support for POTUS as you can see below. Then, after a hassle free day, they visited Howard University.
Howard promotes diversity by being 86% African American and one student, Essence Dalton, quickly tweeted a complaint about “whitey girls tryna be problematic”. I can see that Essence is heading for honours in her English classes.
The University authorities acted quickly asking the High School students to leave and the Howard University Dining Twitter account then wrote: “We will take any action necessary to ensure that HU students feel safe & comfortable in our dining spaces. This group is no longer on campus.”
One of the charming girls on the trip to DC from New Jersey says that the offending MAGA hat was stolen and recounts
“We had never even engaged with the students. Half of us weren’t even through the doors yet. Fortunately one of our supervisors was able to retrieve it. We were harassed continuously. The students took videos and pictures of us saying WE were being ‘disrespectful’, and that ‘us being caucasian, we should have known better’.
After a lot of hate, our head supervisors decided it would be a good idea to keep the peace and find somewhere else to eat. When we got on the bus, a girl from Central Tech told us to ‘remove our hats because we are racist’.
This is America. These are the people who are racist and disrespectful. It’s unfortunate that more Trump supporters have to fear going places than others. I will never be embarrassed for supporting Donald Trump. I will always support OUR president when, and wherever, I please.”
What a girl! Campuses in both America and Britain are now perhaps the most intolerant places one can find, that is unless you happen to buy into the prevailing liberal orthodoxy. If you deviate by admitting you vote "the wrong way" that is racist and an offence. Or, if like poor Germaine Greer, you are foolish enough to suggest that a trans person who has become a female is not the same as someone born female, you are no platformed at once.
George Orwell would be so proud of us all.

In the 1930s Nazi Germany organised the burning of books that the State considered degenerate. The state, or rather the party, got to decide what everyone else should read. Back then the British left stood for free speech. How that has changed.
I have commented before on the tyranny that afflicts our campuses across the land. Not content with trying to stop the leader of the free world from visiting the UK, lefty students have successfully stopped folks including Germaine Greer and even the saintly Peter Tatchell from speaking because they have offended some snowflake mores.
And so today, as is normal on election day, the right wing tabloids went to town on Labour with front page spreads which made it clear that their readers should vote Tory. The central charges that Jeremy Corbyn is unfit to hold high office, has been the terrorists' pal for 35 years and that Labour economic policies would bankrupt Britain, are, at best, demonstrably true and at least worthy of debate.
Over on social media a number of Corbynistas showed how they had taken the matter into their own hands by buying up all the copies of the Sun and the Daily Mail they could find and burning them. This was not an isolated case and thousands of free speech deniers flocked to "like" and thus publicly condone these actions. That is to say they "like" denying their fellow citizens the chance to read newspapers which push a point of view with which they disagree and applaud the act of contributing to global warming ( not that it exists) by burning the "offending" material.
I will celebrate the demise of the loss making Guardian when it closes thanks to market forces. That is to say when folks realise what utter rubbish it peddles and stop buying it. The trend being my friend that is only a matter of time. But until it does go bust, I defend the right of the Guardian to publish its hateful rubbish because we on the right do actually believe in liberty. Sadly that is not the way of the left these days.

That we have to pay for the Guardian's sister outlet, the BBC via a poll tax is bad enough. Its output is low grade and often biased. But now the BBC wants to get you fired if it does not like your views. Hey George Orwell you missed this one in 1984...
In its new privacy and cookies policy HERE, Pravda explains how it will get stacks of data on you. It then states:
If you post or send offensive, inappropriate or objectionable content anywhere on or to BBC websites or otherwise engage in any disruptive behaviour on any BBC service, the BBC may use your personal information to stop such behaviour.
Where the BBC reasonably believes that you are or may be in breach of any applicable laws (e.g. because content you have posted may be defamatory), the BBC may use your personal information to inform relevant third parties such as your employer, school email/internet provider or law enforcement agencies about the content and your behaviour.
So, for instance, I think that allowing transgender guys to use women's bathrooms before they have the op is wrong. And like that well known reactionary Germaine Greer I do not think transgender males can claim to be part of the feminist struggle in the same way as a woman can. There you have it.
If I wanted to I could post that on the BBC website under some news story on Transgender issues. Under the UK's daft hate crime laws if some bloke in a skirt feels offended by this he can report me to the old Bill but also to the BBC which can then report me to my employer and kick up a fuss. Do I really trust the BBC to make a sensible decision on hot PC issues such as this?
Luckily I work for myself so I can't say I am quivering but most folks do not. Do you really want to go spend an hour with HR and have it on your record because some PC stormtrooper at the BBC responded to a complaint by some "aggrieved minority?"
Moral of the story, don't post what you think on the BBC website. Another nail in the coffin for free speech in Airstrip One. What is worse is that it is our taxes that are funding this Orwellian nonsense.

Emmeline Pankhurst, Countess Markievicz, hell even Germaine Greer, these were feminists who fought for something important and fought bravely. And still the struggle is not over. In many parts of the world women are treated shamefully, as sex slaves, as second class citizens as folks who have no rights. Think of FGM, think of the battles of Saudi women to have a voice and to avoid execution for crimes that are not crimes if you are a man, think of the way ISIS treats female captives. Gosh there are some real battles feminists - whether male or female - still need to fight.
But instead we see issues dodged by the liberal left as they skewer themselves on warped ideas of cultural equivalence. The greatest civil liberties campaigner of our time, Mr Peter Tatchell identifies one such example of this today on twitter. I can express my horror no better than Tatch.
#Iran 1979: 100,000 women protest against FORCED hijab. Most Western left & feminists silent then & now. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2017 pic.twitter.com/4eWLzpirkE
— Peter Tatchell (@PeterTatchell) March 7, 2017
And then we have news from Australia today of a victory for the women;s movement. Yes in Oz the battle has been won and we may indeed soe 50% of road crossings showing a woman not a man. Hell's teeth! Who cares a jot about this? It is such an utterly pointless crusade that one despairs at the feminists who wasted their time and money on this fight rather than tackling issues such as Female Genital Mutiliation or the rape culture of Southern Africa.
But then those real issues risk offending certain other minorities, those patriarchal societies where people just happen to be er...black. It is so much easier for the decadent Western liberal to fight for more women on road signs than to actually make the world a better place for women.
Perhaps having covered one Irish revolutionary who it is hard to admire earlier today I might end with a quote from one it is hard not to admire, a real feminist from 1916, Countess Markievicz. What on earth would she make of today's feminist. Over to the Countess with her advice to those who wanted to fight for liberty and equality:
"Dress suitably in short skirts and sitting boots, leave your jewels and gold wands in the bank, and buy a revolver."

Once upon a time, on both sides of the Atlantic, those on the liberal left believed in free speech and liberty. Back in the era of Mccarthy it was we on the right who were, correctly slammed, for stifling debate. I like to think that was an glitch in that for most of us who believe in a small state, freedom of expression is a given, it is part of the DNA of our thought set. It is the Big State loving left that wants to decide what the little people should think and say.
In recent years barely a week has gone by without some University no platforming not only good conservatives like Ann Coulter or Mark Steyn but also mad lefties such as Germaine Greer or Peter Tatchell because on some issue or another they are not quite mad enough. And holding the wrong view means that, for many on the left, you must just be silenced. And then abused by the Guardian, the BBC, the Washington post and pitiful CNN.
The intolerant left has had a cracking start to 2017. First came the revelation that Oxford Physics Don Joshua Silver had reported useless Home Secretary Amber Rudd for a "hate crime" for her Tory conference speech with some very silly proposals on immigration. That Rudd is an airhead with daft and unworkable and pointless ideas is a given. But to say this is a hate crime is surely insanity, particularly when, like Professor Silver, you did not actually listen to the speech.
At least it added to the stats showing a post Brexit rise in hate crimes which can all be blamed on Nigel Farage and it also wasted Police time and will perhaps deter others from even discussing immigration. For folks like Prof Silver there is no need to debate immigration - what is there to debate?
Trumping the insanity from Oxford came news that Opera star Andrea Bocelli had backed out of singing at the inauguration of Donald Trump after he received death threats. The liberal press thinks that it is very brave of Meryl Streep to stand up in a room full of millionaire liberals and say how Hollywood actors (ie millionaire liberals) are threatened by the Trump regime, singled out for attack.
it seems Trump's main crime in this regard is pointing out how American voters ignored the ludicrous threats made by the Hollywood elite about how America had to vote for crooked Hillary or they would all move to Canada. At the last count not one luvvie has headed to the frozen North. A celeb I admire is anyone brave enough to shrug off the abuse and threats from his or her fellow "artistes" and who will join most Americans in celebrating inauguration day on Friday.
Has Meryl Streep condemned those who posted death threats to Mr Bocelli yet? Or does she, like the rest of the left, not think that conservatives have any right to free speech?

Australia's foreign minister Julie Bishop has opined that she thinks that it is in Australia's interests that Britain stays in the EU and votes no to Brexit. Meanwhile 99.9% of Britons think that it is in Britain's interest that Aussie nonce Rolf Harris is shipped back to Australia ASAP. As a convicted felon he'd be following a well worn path and frankly there's no reason why the old kiddie fiddler should be allowed to stay here. While we are at it can the Aussies take Germain Greer back as well?
What on earth makes Ms Bishop think that her intervention adds anything to the argument? Does she honestly think we will change the way we vote becuase it will make her nation of convict descendants and uncultured morons feel any better about life?
Maybe it is just that Ms Bishop is a Republican who does not wish to be ruled by our own dear Queen. As we know the Queen is a bit of a Europsceptic. So would I as a Briton rather have no Queen and be ruled by Europe ( Ms Bishop's suggestion) or leave the Queen as the only German with a say in how the UK is run? Simple.
Its another reason to vote yes to Brexit and meanwhile Ms Bishop can fuck off back to Australia with her unwanted and daft views taking Rolf Harris, Germain Greer, Jason Donovan and Natalie Bennet, the mad cow who leads the Green Party, with her.
