Thank you to Somerset's most enlightened baker for flagging up this gem. Fiamengo covers the clear wretchedness and weakness of Blasey Ford's witness statement used by the Democrat swamp dwellers to try to derail the Kavanaugh Supreme Court nomination much of which I have covered, notably HERE, but she has more. More importantly she explains exactly why Ford acted as she did and why, in every way, she benefits so greatly from her lies even after she is exposed as a liar. This video is priceless.

The main accuser of Supreme Court nominee, Christine Blasey Ford, is now shown to have paper thin evidence for her claims that Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her 36 years ago. Witness number two has no evidence at all and not one witness for her lewd claims of party antics and now the third accuser, Julie Swetnick has gone on NBC and admitted that she made up all that she claimed. She is a liar. So what next for the desperate Dems?
Frankly Swetnick, who is represented by Stormy Daniels’ loathsome lawyer, was never credible but that did not stop Democrats led by Senator Dianne Frankenstein from demanding that the FBI check out her claims. Their agenda was always to delay the process until after the mid-terms when they hope they will regain control of the Senate.
So the sexual assault charges are now fading away. There is no way they can block Kavanaugh on that basis. But if you suffer from #TrumpDerangementSyndrome as most of the liberal media establishment does, you need to find a way of stopping the man. So initially the agenda was moved to his anger at the Senate hearings. I guess if I was falsely accused of what Kavanaugh was accused of I’d be angry too as would any normal man. But that did not seem to occur to the media although as the evidence, or rather lack of it, against him is shown to be increasingly risible most normal Americans will understand that anger.
So the press an d the Dems need a new stick with which to beat the Judge. Hence the NY Times is today running with a story that 30 years ago, while a student, Kavanaugh went to a UB40 concert and afterwards at a bar thought he saw the lead singer. The man he thought was the lead singer denied it and a slightly drunk student threw some beer over him in an altercation in which the details are somewhat unclear. The Police were called but no charges brought.
So the agenda has moved on for the liberal left. Okay Kavanaugh may not be a perv but when he was a student he might have thrown some ice over a man in a bar. And that disqualifies him from being a Supreme Court Judge?
This has never been about the Dems establishing the truth. They sat on the "evidence" for weeks. This has always been about destroying Kavanaugh as part of an attempt to ensure that the Supreme Court does not tighten laws relating to murdering unborn babies and other matters. Tossing an innocent man under the bus to achieve that is thoroughly loathsome.
Any rational person can now see that this witch hunt is almost over. The questions will now being about who created this witch hunt of an innocent man. Step forward Senator Frankenstein and the swamp dwelling Democrat establishment. Bring on the mid-terms and a Red Wave driven by disgust at this circus.

You have probably forgotten who Tim Farron is but as a reminder he is that annoying little twit who kept on reminding us all how working class (pronounced to rhyme with gas not, as would be more appropriate, arse) he was while leading the Lib Dems to their second worst result in eons. He is still an MP. Do you remember now?
As leader he got into a spot of bother with the homosexuals. Not in a Jeremy Thorpe kind of way way. Farron did not want to kill any homosexuals - who had been his boyfriend - he just thinks that their souls will burn in hell. That is to say he is a devout Christian.
On the stump little Farron squirmed and squirmed on where he stood on this matter finally declaring that he did not think that homosexuality was a sin. Except that he did believe that all along and has now admitted that he lied to secure, fairly unsuccessfully as it turned out, electoral advantage.
I rather admired Farron for having some principles and standing by his faith for a short while, even though I profoundly disagreed with his intolerant views on LGBT matters. Then he showed he had no principles by abandoning his faith. Now we discover he did not abandon his faith and his principles after all he just lied about it.
I cast no judgement on Farron but suspect that St Peter may have a few questions for him on this matter on the great day of judgement. And before anyone says it, I am aware that he will have many for me too.

You may remember that last December, shortly after the US election The mainstream media was filled with reports of hate crimes against immigrants and muslims in particular surging across America. The highest profile victim whose plight the BBC , the Guardian etc reported enthusiastically without verifying was Yasmin Seweid. She was an international cause celebre.
She claimed that several Trump supporters verbally assaulted her while she was on the New York City Subway. On her Facebook page she posted, “Three white racists yelled such disgusting slurs at me, I was so helpless and felt defenseless.” She claimed that these Trump supporters said, “Look it’s a f-king terrorist”, “go back to your country, you don’t belong here” and directed other racial slurs toward her.
Fabbo said the liberal media, not concerned that while Yasmin said the subway car was packed there were no witnesses and - amazingly - no-one filming on their mobile. Who cares about checking facts? We are fake news and this shows Trump supporters are racist scumbags.
Last week Yasmin pleaded guilty to falsely reporting an incident and disorderly conduct. She admitted that she wasted valuable police resources. A pathetic liberal judge sentenced her to six months of counselling and three days of community service. And what sort signal will that send out about committing such a crime? Thankfully there were no good ol' boys from Alabama wearing MAGA baseball caps on Yasmin's train. But imagine what would have happened had there been as the cops pulled them in for questioning with the liberal media wolfpack, Jesse Jackson and thousands of virtue signalling millennials on new media all baying for blood. Imagine such an ordeal Yasmin - as liberals often forget actions do have consequences.
Anyhow the poster girl for the wave of - alleged - Trump inspired hate crime is convicted as a fraud and a liar. So where is the mass coverage of this real news on outlets such as Channel 4 Fake News to balance their lazy, unverified, agenda driven fake news of eight months ago?

A couple of days ago it was Emily Maitlis and Laura Kuenssberg at the BBC caught claiming that news was breaking and that they had scoops when in fact they were hours off the pace on Hinkley Point. On Monday night, as he presented Newsnight, it was Evan Davis who was caught telling what was quite simply a blatant lie. Why on earth is the taxpayer paying £500,000 plus for a man who tells lies? The lie was on Syria and compounded an earlier gross deception by Fiona Bruce (another utterly unjustified half a million) on the 10 O'Clock News. Let's start with little Evan...
Just before Newsnight went off air, at after 11 PM he stated " while we have been on air" reports have come in of attacks on an aid convoy in Aleppo Syria. That was a lie. It may have been that the dozy folk at Newsnight only woke up to these reports after 10.30 PM but the story was carried in full by the BBC 10 O'Clock news which went out before Newsnight went on air. Troll the interweb and you can find that the story was out in full on USNews at 8.15 PM GMT and on the Guardian website at 7.12 PM. I doubt the Guardian beat AFP and the other agencies but the bottom line is that little Evan was quite simply lying or misleading.
Why does the BBC and Newsnight in particular feel the need to cover up the fact that it keeps on missing the big stories and is hours off the pace. It pays its star reporters telephone number salaries to keep missing the big stories, reporting with a clear bias and then lying about its mistakes. Why on earth should the taxpayer fund this omnishambles?
Over on the 10 O'Clock News Fiona Bruce was quick to blame the Syrian Government for the attack. If some crazed Muslim goes on a shooting spree in Germany the BBC always insists that we must not jump to conclusions because the guy may well be a deranged Right winger or a chap with mental health issues driven to murder by a Boris Johnson Speech and is almost certainly a lone wolf. But if folks get killed in Syria there is no such restraint shown: accuse Assad and/or the Russians first and ask questions later. As it happens I would wager a fiver that it was Assad's planes that were responsible.
But Fiona did not leave it at that.
She stated that this showed that "the ceasefire had been unilaterally broken by the Syrian Government". Really? What about the 60 Syrian troops killed by Allied planes and a UK drone the day previously, an act that allowed ISIS fighters to make territorial gains. That act happened first and looks like a bit of a ceasefire breach to me?
The truth is that all sides are breaching the ceasefire. But please do not let the truth get in the way of the BBC pushing its own narrative.

Andrea Leadsom was not my favoured candidate to be PM for a variety of reasons. In short she was a liar and socially illiberal and so I wanted her to lose even though Theresa May is, herself, a ghastly piece of work. I guess she now walks into Downing Street. Leadsom has, this morning, after apologising for making vile remarks that 48 hours ago she was smearing jounalists by claiming she had not made, pulled out of the race, May is crowned not elected.
The problem is that for many of us she is just another career politician who went to Oxbridge and has bugger all real life experience. She promised tough action on immigration - in a rather nasty fashion - but delivered only inaction. And she was on the wrong side in the EU Referendum. She wanted to stay.
Tory MPs are today saying what a jolly good woman Mrs May is and how their party is united as opposed to Labour which is not. That may be the case. But for many folks this is just the establishment rallying around each other. I did not like Leadsom but wished that an insurgency within the Tories had challenged that establishment. It is as if the Country Club Republicans who were so out of touch with the party base had managed to get Trump to withdraw and allowed little Marco Rubio to win unchallenged.
The Coronation of Remain supporting Mrs May will do nothing to arrest the long term decline in Tory membership or to reach out to a vast audience of "Thatcher Tories" or indeed Labour heartland Brexiteers who now find themselves without a voice.
The trouble is that no one really wants to speak for those people, bar UKIP. The establishment can celebrate with a kiss and make up session at Tory HQ and champers all round. The rest of us could not give a damn. We get on with our lives and think "fuck the lot of you." Are we so really sure that our Glorious Revolution rather than the French Revolution is the model for Britain as it seeks as way forward?

I picked up yesterday on the fact that Andrea Leadsom views gay folks as different to straight folks in terms of their rights to suffer the miserty of marriage. So she is a social conservative which will chime with many Tory party members and I've no problem with her coming out in this respect. These days, some leading Tory seems to come out as something or other about once a week. What is nauseating about Leadsom is that she lies about this issue. She says she believes in equality and then smailes inanely. Yet her stated views make it clear that she does not believe in equality. In the world of Leadsom it is one rule for the shirt lifters and one rule for the rest of us. Time to smile inanely again Andrea.
My biggest problem with Leadsom is thus not that she is a bigot, although she is, but that she cannot tell the truth about her bigotry on the issue of the pooftahs. And in seeking to hide that she digs herself deeper and deeper into whichever hole she has stumbled.
And thus we now know that her CV about her banking career was quite simply not true. She exaggerated her claims about what she did. Yet in an infamous interview wih the Times yesterday we read:
After explaining that, as a former banker, she understands “how the economy works and can really focus on turning it around” — unlike, by implication, the home secretary.
Andrea Leadsom managed the recruitment of teams of banksters. She was a manager of people. Theresa May manages a far bigger team at the Home Office. Neither means that they understand finance so well they can turn round the economy. Leadsom was a banker in the same way that May is a Policewoman.
What arrogance of Leadsom to claim that she can turn round the economy, especially when her CV (truthful version) shows no reason to back up the claim of specialist knowledge. And anyhow did not the banksters sort of help to get us into the mess of 2008 in the first place?
Leadsom goes on: back to The Times:
— she stresses that she is a “member of a huge family and that’s important to me. My kids are a huge part of my life, my sisters and my two half brothers are very close so I am very grounded and normal.” Mrs May, of course, has spoken of her heartbreak at realising that she could not have children.
In case the contrast is not clear enough, Mrs Leadsom goes on: “I am sure Theresa will be really sad she doesn’t have children so I don’t want this to be ‘Andrea has children, Theresa hasn’t’ because I think that would be really horrible, but genuinely I feel that being a mum means you have a very real stake in the future of our country, a tangible stake. She possibly has nieces, nephews, lots of people, but I have children who are going to have children who will directly be a part of what happens next.” There is also an empathy that comes from motherhood, she suggests, “when you are thinking about the issues that other people have: you worry about your kids’ exam results, what direction their careers are taking, what we are going to eat on Sunday”.
This is loathsome. It is vile. It is beneath contempt. There is no evidence for Mrs Leadsom's claims. Lady Thatcher had (awful) kids and was a brilliant PM. Mrs Gandhi also had kids and was a total disaster for India in every way. There is no data set to support the Leadsom claims it is just horrible comment from a horrible woman who wishes to rebrand the Tories as the "nasty party" once again.
Leadsom has now taken to twitter saying she was misquoted. But, sadly for her, the transcript of the interview has emerged and she was not misquoted at all. Accusing respected journalists of making up quotes just marks Leadsom out as the sort of silly bint who would sex up her CV. Leadsom is not fit for high office or indeed to be an MP at all.
Again my over-riding problem with Leadsom is not that she is a nasty person ( though she is) but that she is not telling the truth. Again.
About the only thing that can be said for Leadsom is the arrogance and patronising piffle written about her by the lefty, "Remainer" liberal media elite. If folks like Simon Scharma loathe her maybe she is not so bad after all? Scharma's patronising comment of yesterday is below:
Isnt the real point that if she really cared abt her kids or anyone else's future Leadsom wouldnt have switched from proEU to Leave
That tweet was "liked" by hundreds of latte sipping London members of the comfortable affluent in crowd. They like patronising we thicko Brexiteers.
Gosh it is a tough contest to take sides on. Reading folks like Scharma, the Guardian Editorial Team and the most ghastly Tory in Britain, Amber Rudd MP tell us that it has to be May I think back about how the insurgents, including Leadson, won the vote on June 23rd. And May was on the other side with the establishment with folks like Scharma, ghastly Rudd, her brother Roland Rat and Polly Toynbee. The supporters of May drive me into the arms of Leadsom.
But on the other hand could I trust a woman who is happy to be so nasty, whose views on issues that I care about mark her out as a bigot and who above all - just seems, even by the standards of politicians, to have a real problem with just not telling the truth? The biggest reason to vote May, and it is becoming almost a compelling reason, is, quite simply, that the only alternative is Andrea Leadsom.

Baroness Warsi is an unelected Tory politician with a track record of dodgy business dealings who says the most appalling things to gain publicity. Today she has announced that she is leaving the "Leave" campaign on Brexit and joining "Remain" because of all the racism, xenophobia and bigotry of folks like Priti patel and Gisela Stuart. The BBC laps it up as a major blow for Brexit. The only problem is that the silly cow Warsi never actually joined the Leave campaign.
Please don't let that stop Project Fear treating this as news but it is all bogus. On twitter the derision is palpable. Among the best tweets are:

@StrongerIn Breaking news - Baroness Warsi has just announced she is leaving the Labour Party and becoming a Tory.
But watch the BBC, the Guardian, lyin' David Cameron et all treat this is major news. The narrative of the last few days from Project Fear will be Brexit, racist, don't talk about immigration, Jo Cox dedicated campaigner for the EU, the politics of hate, right wing murderers, etc.
They lost the argument but I fear they are winning the smears.

I cannot remember when I first described David Cameron as the heir to Blair. I think it was in 2012 but it may have been at the time of the funeral of Lady Thatcher, whose shoes Dodgy Dave is not fit to lick. Today's comments on Brexit are fantasy lying league stuff which is right up their with with the war criminal Blair's comments on Weapons of Mass Destruction.
Cameron argues that leaving the EU would make a world war more likely. A world war with whom? Would Russia or China really invade NATO Stalwart Britain just because we were no longer part of the EU, a military enterprise so pathetic it cannot even keep out illegal immigrants on rubber dinghies let alone the might of the Red Army and Navy?
The EU has not kept the peace in Europe since 1945, that has been down to America and NATO seeing off the commies. When the EU has intervened in conflicts, such as in Bosnia, it has proved worse than hopeless. Its interventions in places such as the Ukraine has fueled conflict.
In telling such a silly but enormous lie Cameron makes himself look ridiculous. Should the vote on June 23rd be in favour of Brexit then interventions such as this one make his position look less and less tenable and will make his reputation increasingly one that is , like that of the liar Blair, a poor one.
John Major is today, with hindsight, viewed as almost competent despite the actual omni-shambles of his Premiership. It is perhaps because his successors have either been utterly mendacious and self serving (Blair) or a walking disaster (Brown) and so the chummy but dull honesty of Major seems almost appealing. Until now it was hard to say which way Cameron would be viewed: as a Major, a Blair or a Brown. I think perhaps not a Brown but after today it is surely far more as a Blair than a Major.
All politicians lie bit only a few lie on such a monstrous scale. It is hard to see what motivates a man like Cameron to say something that he knows is not only untrue but demonstrably untrue. With the polls showing that its neck and neck but we outers far more likely to actually vote on the day could this act of madness by Dodgy Dave just be seen as a sign of pure desperation?

The old war criminal Blair has again spoken out in the EU Referendum debate and although phoney Tony has lied about so many things for so many years, for once -as he argues that we should stay in - he tells the truth.
Blair's candid admission is that he seems to acknowledge thart his support for the "in" campaign may not actually win it any votes and indeed might actually assist those pushing for Brexit. The old liar stated: "I don’t know whether its the right time for me on the campaign trail. That carries with it negatives as well as positives"
Indeed it does. Mr Blair is a proven liar who will also formally be shown to be a war criminal when his attempts to delay publication of the Chilcott enquiry into the illegal Iraq War are finally overcome. Blair has amassed a vast fortune advising despots, dictators and human rights abusers around the world. And even if he did not shag Wendy, the ex Mrs Murdoch, he remains married to the Wicked Witch Cherie so clearly has exceptionally poor judgement when it comes to les femmes.
As such Blair telling the British people to vote for "In" will be music to the ears of the Brexit Team. The outers have already been boosted by the German and French Governements telling the Brits to vote to stay in and one wonders who else the outers might persuade to publicly back the "In" camp as a kiss of death.
Perhaps Call Me Dave might get proven loser Country Club twits Romney & McCain who have done so much to boost Dinald Trump by slating him, to back the "inners". Or maybe we need to look elsewhere?
Is it true that the late Jimmy Savile was a keen supporter of the European Union? Almost certainly not but perhaps an endorsement for "in" from beyond the grave from Jim could be arranged to add to that of Mr Blair, Francois Hollande and those other big name pulls.
In the absence of Savile, then as a keen supporter of Brexit I urge Mr Blair to keep telling anyone who will listen that they should trust Tony and vote to stay in the EU.

This email arrived this afternoon. Can it really be from disgraced ex Sefton boss, the liar and crook JOim Ellerton? The way Sefton emails appear everywhere you just don't know.
From: [email protected]
Form details below.
Name: Jim Ellerton
Number of people: four directors
Email: [email protected]
Comments: Can we have your old chip fat/oil to mix in with our Tapia oil?
Heck, I am always keen to help Sefton boost its production numbers but we don't serve chips at Clerkenwell's finest quirkiest Celtic Italian restaurant, The Real Man Pizza Company.

The only witness Sefton Resources (SER) stated to the Court that it would call in its libel case was Jim Ellerton who is now exposed as a liar and a crook and who was forced to leave the Sefton board in disgrace on the advice of Nomad Allenby and Company lawyer Pinsent Masons.
That same firm of lawyers has today written to me declining my offer to settle (with it paying my costs and damages in shares) but saying it would talk to me if I agreed not to write about it for 30 days. It insists that it is quite prepared to plough on with what anyone with half a brain cell can see is an unwinnable case given the Ellerton issue and the fact that everything I have written about Sefton is verifiably true.
I have no intention of being gagged for 30 days. So I have told Pinsents to fuck off. The sniper is back on duty. Pursuing this unwinnable case will bankrupt Sefton. Shareholders need to be very much aware of that but frankly that is not my concern.
I guess we now must start looking at the Non-Executive Directors in detail as well as again ploughing through the old annual reports. Comrade Levi is – I gather minded – to take a similar approach.

Apologies for the delay. Well there is a lot happening right now. Following the highly successful interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt and Libya it seems as if we are about to intervene in Syria as well. Will we ever learn? Away from the folly of our leaders my mind this week centred on victory in my battle with AIM POS Sefton Resources and its liar and crook chairman Jim Ellerton. Bully boy lawyers Pinsent Masons has yet to throw in the towel officially (heck why not rack up some more fees while you can?) but it is only a matter of time.
If you missed the victory at Pinsents Video please watch and pass the link onto everyone you know. I gather the bully boys are hating all this bad PR. Given its role in the Sefton dirty tricks campaign against me Pinsents deserves all the shit it gets. So please watch the video and pass on the link to EVERYONE YOU KNOW - it is HERE
This week’s picture is below. Please post your captions in the comments box below.
For what it is worth my entry is “Mr Ellerton, after buggering your shareholders for 13 years now you get to see what it feels like – shower time is 7 AM”
Now please start sending out the link to that Pinsents video to every email address you have

City law firm Pinsent Masons played its part in the Sefton dirty tricks campaign against Dan Levi and me with its infamous letter to the FSA trying to stop me writing about shares. To protect its bent client it tried (and failed) to deprive me of a living. And it then (at great expense to Sefton shareholders) tried to bully me in the libel courts. As such you might understand why I am not its greatest fan.
Pinsents tried to destroy me on its chosen playing field (the law). It failed. Now the rematch is set to take place on my chosen playing field – the internet and new media.
Pinsents disgraceful behaviour is now all over the internet. Those responsible for its new media promotion cannot be enjoying what they read. Its role in the Sefton scandal is now laid bare and my triumphant visit to its luxurious office with a glass of champagne is now a well watched video. The Times newspaper mentioned it in full and Pinsents must be squirming.
But still the fuckers will not withdraw their law suit (which they admit is in tatters). Still there is no apology. I am not asking senior partner Chris Mullen (hey Chris you now feature in google searches alongside a pic of a scantily clad Cheryl Cole which is not pornography and the word fraudster thanks to liar and fraudster Jim Ellerton) to come and grovel personally. But Chris, you could send along a few of the other partners to buy me a slap up dinner at RMPC or just write a public letter of apology.
Oh shite, Chris now appears on google searches next to the word pornography. Welcome Pinsent Masons to my chosen battleground of new media.
Meanwhile I know Pinsent Masons has spent a great deal of effort building up its twitter presence so if you are bored just head off to @pinsentmasons find any one of its worthy tweets and draft a suitable reply. As an example earlier today I found a tweet from PM
Financial firms to set targets for female board members - Linda Jones of @PinsentMasons talks to @BBCNews http://bbc.in/13cGpRN #ukemplaw
So naturally I replied (including both @pinsentmasons and @bbcnews)
@PinsentMasons @BBCNews how about as a priority ensuring boards do not have contain crooks like Pinsents star client Sefton @TomWinnifrith
If you having nothing else better to do this weekend, feel free to go and tweet a reply to one of the numerous dreary tweets sent out by Pinsents and bring some life to its twitter feed. I am sure that they will appreciate the gesture.

More details emerge about liar, criminal and ex MP Chris Huhne every day which are guaranteed to nauseate. The windfarm and global warming nutter made his ex wife have an abortion for the sake of his career (she says) and there was a mistress prior to the lesbian he hooked up with before ditching the ex Mrs Huhne. This is all pretty unpleasant but is a private matter. What matters is the money.
Multi millionaire Huhne always played the expenses game aggressively – claiming for the cost of a Trouser Press amongst other things. And days before quitting as an MP – when he knew that the game was almost up – he happily claimed for an Ipad (at £700) and stiffed the taxpayer with an expenses claim. Various of his smug colleagues demand he repay that sum to deflect from the real question: why the hell does an MP need an Ipad anyway and why the hell should the taxpayer pay for it?
How many other sleazy MPs have bought an Ipad and put it on expenses?
The real kick in the groin for the taxpayer is that Huhne will get a £70,000 payoff for standing down as an MP. Just imagine that you were suddenly exposed as a liar and a criminal and were days away from going to prison. What would your employer say? I somehow doubt that it would be “okay resign and here is one year’s salary as compensation.” Now Nick Clegg and other MPs are starting to get huffy puffy about this payoff too, pointing out that Huhne is loaded anyway.
His wealth is a side issue. That is just playing to the rabble with envy politics. There is no point in Huhne simply not taking the £70,000 as a one off gesture (well it would be good of him) – if MPs were serious and not just showing faux outrage hey would change the system (and should have done it ages ago) so that any MP (or Lord) who is found guilty or pleads guilty to a criminal case gets not a cent of compensation. And our esteemed leaders should not be able to quit (and get compensation) if they are under investigation just to jump the payoff gun.
Rush that rule change through and the moral pressure on Huhne to not claim his £70,000 increases. So why are MPs not happy to agree to that simple change in the rules for all MPs?

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Telegraph, our beloved leader, the Right Honourable David Cameron MP, says that he is prepared to extend public spending cuts until 2020 in order to “deal with our deficits” because he is a responsible politician. No Dave you are a complete bare faced liar. To quote:
Asked whether the austerity programme would now last a decade until 2020, the Prime Minister replies: “I think it’s going to be…this is a period for all countries, not just in Europe but I think you will see it in America too, where we have to deal with our deficits and we have to have sustainable debts. I can’t see any time soon when…the pressure will be off.
“I don’t see a time when difficult spending choices are going to go away.”
Er… yes. I now attach a table from the website www.UKpublicspending.co.uk
2010 1458.45 62.262 660.81 a
2011 1509.6 62.649 681.33 a
2012 1559.5 63.067 687.96 e
2013 1631.3 63.488 676.57 g
2014 1717.1 63.912 715.27 g
2015 1813.5 64.338 728.87 g
The letter a refers to actual spending, e is the Treasury estimate and g an estimate from the website itself. Sadly I think the numbers rather underplay the story. The global economic slowdown will almost certainly increase welfare payments and so I would expect numbers for 2012-2015 to actually be a tad higher than those stated here.
But what I am sure that you have noticed is that UK Government spending (column rwo) is not in fact being cut at all but has steadily increased year on year since Call Me Dave was elected and will carry on increasing right throughout this Parliament. Incidentally UK spending per head of population (column 4) is also set to grow sharply.
Presumably because Call Me Dave is such a responsible guy he has found lots of extra revenues so that he can fund this and still cut the UK’s monstrous public debt? Er well I am afraid you might be a little disappointed there too. When Call Me Dave talks about “dealing with the deficit” he actually means “not dealing with the deficit at all.” At this point I turn to the excellent John Redwood MP writing about a year ago:
One of the neglected figures from the UK government’s last Budget book is the figure for total borrowing between 2010 and 2015. The government plans to borrow an extra £485 billion. That is more than the total UK state debt in 2004. People have not concentrated on this figure because there has been so much talk of spending cuts. Some have even thought that cutting the deficit means repaying the debt. That’s why telling them the UK is going through another substantial credit dependent period comes as a surprise.
The assumptions behind the strategy include the rapid acceleration of the UK’s current rate of growth. The five year forecasts assume a near doubling of the rate to 2.9% in both 2013 and 2014, with high growth continuing in 2015 at 2.8%. If by any chance this did not come true – owing perhaps to disappointment in global growth, or continuing struggles to sort out the banks – revenue will fall short of the target and the deficit will be proportionately higher. The government might still hit its target of eliminating the structural deficit, but overall borrowing could be higher as the cyclical deficit would be permitted to be higher under the rules.
It strikes me that Mr Redwood’s fears about rates of UK economic growth look to be rather bang on the money. Or lack of it. Since the UK is not growing as fast as Call Me Dave expected, tax receipts will be lower than expected and so given that he is not actually cutting public spending at all, but increasing it, the UK national debt will grow at a far greater rate than he has promised. How this can be seen as “dealing with the deficit” escapes me.
The Telegraph is a fine paper. After all it employs not only Christopher Booker but also my new pal, hot hackette Anna White, but how it can allow Call Me Dave to spout such piffle and claim to be responsible when he is in fact just telling bare faced lies, escapes me completely. I am sure that the delightful Anna would not have let him get away with such nonsense.
