PERSONAL, UNDILUTED VIEWS FROM TOM WINNIFRITH

Happy Birthday to TomWinnifrith.com -now five years old: my 20 most read articles on this website

"Congratulations on your anniversary" said a raft of messages from folks I once knew, barely know or don't know at all but who are connected to me on facebook for grown ups, that is to say LinkedIn. Er ....what thought I... what anniversary?

Apparently this blog started five years ago and I updated my LinkedIn profile 1826 days ago to reflect this. I was no longer on the board of Rivington the company I founded but was ousted from, I was the editor of Tom Winnifrith.com. Well thanks folks it has been a blast. I really should thank Jim Mellon for asset stripping Rivington and reneging on our agreed compromise deal. That and those nasty lawyers letters sent to me (and to my Dad after one of his henchwomen stole data, just the wrong data) to try to stop me working five years ago, gave me a whole new opportunity and a motivation to succeed again. So thanks Jim, without your valiant efforts none of this would have been possible.

Our media operations are very profitable and growing. Jim, remind me how big are your losses on those media ops you asset stripped now? After five years your loss is well over £3 million or are you up to £4 million by now? When ousting me it was said that all that the media operations you asset stripped (which were, at that point, profitable) needed was a change of management. It really is all about management isn't it Jim?

The five years here have been quite fun. I was trying to explain to my sister T, who was pissed off about an article I wrote mentioning her, and who thought I was on sick leave, that writing on this website does not actually make me much in the way of money, but it keeps me relaxed and happy. It kept me just about sane when I was in a bad place five years ago and remains a relief outlet to this day, a place to vent.

At Rivington I was, for several years, gagged, unable to write what I thought. On this blog that has not been an issue. Sure, some folks, including the facist lawyer of a celeb who enjoys unprotected anal sex with folks who are not his husband in pools filled with olive oil while lecturing us all about the good work he does fighting the spread of AIDS, have tried to stop me but so far it has been free speech central. Such are the joys of an overseas server and being your own boss.

Thank you to all who have supported or read this blog as well as to Jim Mellon for giving me this unexpected career opportunity. My most widely read material is financial and appears elsewhere, mainly at ShareProphets but this is my real joy.

This article will be number 11498 to appear on this website but the 20 most read in descending order are:

  1. Tom Winnifrith Postcard: Mad Bernie Sanders to beat Crooked Hillary in California - Donald Trump gets an early Christmas treat
  2. Tom Winnifrith Postcard #137 - #Rhodesmustfall rewrites history and is PC bollocks
  3. Pacific Tycoon – Investor Red Alert
  4. Downing Street Affair - Have you figured it out yet? Surely you have
  5. The Downing Street Affair – Cameron is dreaming if he tries to gag the story
  6. Rebekah Brooks and Andy Coulson what a strange affair in Downing Street

15 millionth page impression will be today & I think of Jim Mellon

We humans are fascinated by round numbers. The year 2000 was so much more important than 1999 and sparked, as had the year 1000, all sorts of millennial dread and craziness. When a batsman reaches 100 or 150 or 200 it is deemed so much more important than 99, 101, 151 or 199. That is just the way we are. Thus please allow me a short moment of satisfaction at, I guess, around 11.30 today.

I note that the page impressions across the two websites I run TomWinnifrith.com and ShareProphets.com will today hit 15 million. The former is just over four years old and is entirely my work and is at just over 1.8 million. The latter is three years seven months old and around 75-80% of the traffic is for articles written by me so I must share the glory but it is at just under 13.2 million page impressions.

The 15 millionth time someone somewhere reads an article is in itself no more relevant than when someone read an article last week about me wandering around Sainsbury's feeling old and angry with a world going to ruin. But I suppose it is a landmark anyway and, as such, I note it.

And I also look with some satisfaction at the websites I used to run before the asset strippers sripped them out of Rivington, a process that started four years ago last May with them booting me out of the company I founded.

Well Jim Mellon I see that ALL of the website you asset stripped have been closed down. Jim may have one new website to play with but industry data shows that virtually no-one reads it. It would have been far simpler for Jim to have accepted cash bids for those assets back in 2012. It would have been far better for RSH shareholders. Instead Jim asset stripped.

What goes around comes around. As I pass another landmark I shall be thinking of you Jim. Cheers. And have a nice day.

Life’s little ironies…hard not to smile as the excitement at Real Man mounts

1549 days ago

When I parted company with t1ps the pathetic wretch put in charge  - Mr Richard “Gollum” Gill  -sent a letter to its then 3000+ subscribers blaming me for everything and saying “new management was turning it around”. That was 30 months ago. At the same time I bought from Rivington – the owner of t1ps – the Real Man Restaurant in an open auction. It was losing £8,000 a month and was viewed as a basket case.

Wind forward 30 months. T1ps has lost 95% of its readers and was last weekend shut down. So much for the turn around.

Meanwhile Real Man is now profitable. For the first time in years it has enjoyed real capex and staff training and our landlord (Camden Council) loves us as do our customers. And as t1ps is shutting down Real Man will move up a gear with a relaunch and rebrand on Monday.

For those who left t1ps with me like Darren and Steve there is job security and the “new management feels it has been a job well done. Real Man is humming, the Alexa.com stats tell it all in terms of whose website have the readers, UK Investor Show has three times as many stands booked in as the sad legacy show at the old place and we are happy in the work that we do. We enjoy the joy of free speech in a way that we never did round at the old place. Life is fun.

As for the “new management” at t1ps, having trainwrecked what was once the UK’s most successful share tipping website in less than three years and spent far too much time trying to smear me in a vile manner rather than delivering a decent product: how is the job hunt going Gollum?

Gloating over.  I trust that the point about “new management” is made.

It was 24 months ago last week but looking forward is far more fun!

1795 days ago

This morning www.TomWinnifrith.com went down. Uh oh…apologies all round, we forgot to renew the domain name! Apologies for that, we are two years old today. It is a week of anniversaries and look backs. On 18th May I “parted company” with Rivington, the company I founded as an employee. Rivington said that it had issued me a 24 month rolling contract as an advisor to t1ps. That was of course not true and I was on my way.

And so two year ago today this domain name was registered and the first article appeared here a few days later.

That’s enough on looking back. Today the 36th writer to appear on www.Shareprophets.com made his explosive debut – welcome to an old friend Dru Edmonstone HERE. Tomorrow I know that I can enjoy a family half term day and that Steve Moore – who has worked alongside me since he left University – can also have a day off and all is in safe hands. Ben Turney and Darren Atwater will mind the ship and I need not worry.

Next week we hire another full time staff member for our websites as they move into becoming a proper operation and we hope for more exciting news on UK Investor Show 2015.

Above all writing has never been more enjoyable and never has my material been so widely read before. “The Maverick Tipster” has become “The Sheriff of AIM” and life’s a ball.

There is ever more to look forward to. Thank you, as ever, for continuing to read my articles and to all of those who have chosen to work alongside me.
