I start with a few thoughts on the protests and riots following the murder of an African American man by a cop. I offer up some hard data which makes me ask whether the riots can be justified. I stress that, as someone who goes to sleep with a person of colour every night and with a mixed race son, I do think that black lives matter, including those six black lives now taken by US rioters . It is not that she wishes me to lose a few llbs, it is that she wants me out of the house so that she and young Joshua can watch rubbish on the TV without me sneering.
