Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: why I am a journalist not a thirsty share blogger & count-down for Telit

I start by issuing a correction. That is what journalists do and thirsty share bloggers don't when they goof. That refers to Footasylum (FOOT) though my generic point still stands. I also cover Telit (TCM), UK Oil & Gas (UKOG), Dev Clever (DEV), Plus500 (PLUS) and Patagonia Gold (PGD) and other loss making companies that, for some reason, have net debt.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Staring down the barrel - just one week left for the bailout placings

I am just so tired after day 4 of the olive harvest. You can see today's report - into the lair of the snake - HERE. In this podcast I cover: Cloudtag (CTAG), Strat Aero (AERO), Andalas (ADL), the CFD firms and the FCA, notably Plus 500 (PLUS), African Potash (FRAUD), Corero (CNS), Inspirit (INSP) and Fishing Republic (FISH).

CFD firms whacked as Britain's FCA follows European lead and clamps down

I do not use CFD's. They seem like a mugs game and indeed research by the FCA shows that 82% of clients of the big providers lose money. But then most folks lose on the horses or on betting on football so why target CFDs? It is all driven by MiFD2. We saw this take shape in Cyprus last week although Plus500 denied that it would be affected in a pathetic rebuttal to my scoop. That rebuttal was bollocks and Plus shares are among the big fallers today as the FCA has weighed in with a series of measures.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Speaking at length about AIM fraud to a bird from Bloomberg

She was horrified. I am not sure she agreed with my line that the mainstream press were part of the problem not the solution but she agreed that AIM had its issues. On the bearcast today I look at Red Leopard (RLH), Formation Group (FRM), Mobile Streams (MOS) and its charming CEO - Andalas (ADL) - whose CEO is a tosser - Strat Aero (AERO), Finnaust (FAM), Inspirit (INSP), Plus 500 (PLUS), Advanced Oncotherapy (AVO)), TrakM8 (TRAK) and Cloudtag (CTAG) plus one way of looking at it which sees 300 companies on AIM as a sort of fraud.

UPDATED: Plus500 - problems ahead in Cyprus? A compelling short

I am back in the Hellenic Republic once again and it appears that there may be a few problems ahead for AIM listed Plus 500 (PLUS) in the Greek speaking world. A contact flags up developments in Cyprus where - as you can see in the attached document - Plus does much of its business.

Ok Reg, I wouldnt presume to tell you how to run your fecking PR business but...

Video: Tom Winnifrith, Lucian Miers, Matt Earl and Graham Neary 8 stocks going to Zero from Gold & Bears

This was one of the sparkiest sessions at Gold & Bears and I loved it. Each of myself, the bard of the Boleyn (Lucian Miers), the Dark Destroyer (Matt Earl) and Baby Bear (Graham Neary) selelected two stocks we thought were going to zero and explained why. They were: Fastjet (FJET), AO World (AO), Gulf Keystone (GKP), Slater & Gordon (SGH), Avanti Communications (AVN), Plus500 (PLUS), Tungsten (TUNG) and - bugger me - I can't remember Matt's other pick. Watch the video to find out, its a stormer.

Plus500 - Numis ceases coverage with damning note (which we have), shares tank

Top broker Numis has ceased its coverage of Plus500 (PLUS) with an incredibly damning note for its institutional clients, which just happens to have fallen into my possession. Steve Moore and myself have been bears of this stock for a while and we remain so. Now over to Numis which writes:

EXCLUSIVE: WH Ireland – Not only ripping off pensioners but a swarm of other scandals emerge

On Sunday I discussed how AIM listed stockbroker WH Ireland (WHI) ripped off a 78 year old pensioner for more than £500,000 but has only compensated him for £150,000. A WH Ireland spinmeister says that the actual loss for the poor defrauded pensioners was only £329,750. But the PR operative was less forthcoming when questioned about a swarm of other scandals.

First we deal with the fellow at WH Ireland who managed the discretionary account for these poor vulnerable old folk, shafting them by sticking nearly all their cash into AIM, Plus and unlisted penny stocks most of which cratered and most of which were WH Ireland corporate clients.  I put it to WH Ireland that the pensioners who took action were just the tip of the iceberg – the chap responsible, Mr John Molyneux, has abused a number of other discretionary clients in exactly the same manner.

A responsible firm

USOP Comedy Genius Liam McGrattan is coming to the AIM Cesspit – you could not make it up!

Well this is the acid test for AIM – will it accept a listing from Liam McGrattan the Irish fellow who has brought us the stockmarket disasters US Oil & Gas (USOP), TeknoMining and many others. If the Cesspit allows Liam to list IMC Exploration then it is officially a joke market.

As a reminder of the disgrace that is US Oil & Gas (USOP) - a company that was kicked off Plus/ISDX for regulatory failures and is a serial liar click HERE

Want more?  Try Teknomining, a company that went bust on PLUS and er…told serial lies as detailed HERE

And now we have IMC

US Oil & Gas Announcement - Sheer Comedy

When US Oil & Gas (USOP) goes tits up, its CEO Brian McDonnell should become a comedian. He really is very good. As our fellow Irishman Frank Carson used to say “It’s the way I tell ‘em.” The latest press release dated 23rd May has had me in stitches for days. It is comic genius. Oddly out there in la la USOPian land some folks seem to believe it. That is less funny.

Before we come to the “Competent Persons Report” I remind you that regulators at PLUS slammed young Brian for making statements he could not back up. Young Brian told the State of Nevada that his Ebiana #1 well was flowing at 60 bopd. But when the pen-pushers turned up on site and found sod all oil he admitted that was just an estimate and that the dog had eaten his calculations on which that estimate was made.

But Brian has persisted and now trumpets a Competent Persons Report by Forest Garb & Associates (the folks who said that Brian’s Hot Creek asset contained 189 million barrels of oil before any well was drilled). Having now drilled one well and found no commercial quantities of oil, Forrest Gump now reckons that

In the AIM Cesspit - The African Eagle Saga

African Eagle (AFE) joined AIM from PLUS in June 2003. Today it is six months away from oblivion. Its rise and fall is a morality tale from the Cesspit. No-one emerges from this tale with any credit. I say this as someone who tipped the stock but a long while ago advised cutting losses.  But let’s start at the beginning. This is pretty horrific reading.

African started out as Twigg Minerals on the old Ofex market. At the time it came to AIM it was banging on about its gold assets in Tanzania: Miyabi and Iguribi.  But they were not big enough. Miyabi is now part of a JV with African having 25% but still nowhere near production. The other assets were even less spectacular.  And so to support fund raise after fund raise (there have been more than a dozen to date) the company started promoting copper assets in Zambia.

Sasare, Ndola, Lunga all were company makers we were told as investors were tapped again and again. That was until the company stumbled on something even more exciting. By 2009 the word was Dutwa – a vast Nickel find in Tanzania. The way to maximise shareholder value was to push ahead with Dutwa (oh can we raise some more money please?) and those other company makers were dropped. African had a new company maker.

Exclusive: US Oil & Gas – The FSA Insider Dealing Enquiry Secret Document Revealed

Another day and more documents emerge. Among the absolute classics is an email from Brian McDonnel (the hapless CEO) to a shareholder demanding that the shareholder cease ringing contractors and officials in Nevada to discover things about life in Hot Creek. Brian says that it is illegal for shareholders to do such due diligence. What piffle.

Brian reckons that shareholders who do due diligence get an unfair advantage and that this may be a breach of securities laws. Oh please. Doing due diligence might have helped a lot of shareholders to establish far earlier what a POS US Oil & Gas was and is and have saved them a lot of cash. Anyone who cites bogus laws to deter shareholders from asking questions is, to say the least, odd.

We established yesterday why PLUS booted US Oil & Gas off its own joke market but disgracefully failed to share these facts with investors who then went on to get mugged by US Oil & Gas on GXG.

You can read that here:

But what about the FSA?

The Teknomining scandal – I accuse more Company Directors of being liars. Meanwhile: US Oil & Gas – avoid like the plague

This is a story that started in an office above a pub in a part of Dublin where muggers go out in pairs for their own safety. But those who have been mugged in this case are investors in a series of enterprises floated on PLUS and AIM. It is shocking and grotesque even by the standards of the cesspit that is the small cap resource world.
