Dad: your attitude to the Welsh & Scots is schizophrenic!

So says daughter Olaf who has repudiated her father’s DNA and is now identifying wholly as Welsh.  She is perplexed that I laugh at the Welsh and its certifiable political class, predict that Independence in the short term would be an economic disaster for Wales as well as Scotland yet support the cause, as a Welsh resident, most strongly.  Our starting point here is that my daughter is a teenager, lives in Islington and is a bit of a lefty. As such, she, by definition, does not really believe in jokes and many of my comments about cottage burners are said in jest and, thus, she does not understand them.

As a Libertarian & Princess Leia Organa devotee - thoughts on the nature of Carrie Fisher's death

I suppose I should not have been shocked. The spin from her publicists was that Carrie Fisher had once been a hell raiser but had now been clean for years. I think she once admitted that during the filming of Star Wars she was taking so much coke that she barely knew which day of the week it was. Well I guess we now know that the "now clean" line was just spin. The autopsy shows that Fisher had traces of coke, heroin and ecstasy in her body when she died aged 60 just before Christmas.

Frigging Hot Cross Buns at Sainsbury - Its January FFS

My boycott of all supermarkets is going well. Or it was until yesterday when an ailing Mrs ordered me to get some comfort food for her and some cat heroin for Tara the cat. When Tara sees the fridge opened she starts wailing. The only thing that will quieten her is cat milk. It is her heroin and without several fixes a day she gets very cranky. And so I headed to Sainsbury.

I walked in and staring me straight in the face are s stack of packs of hot cross buns at 80p a bag. For fucks sake it is just two days after twelfth night and

Range Resources – A Comedy or a Farce: The Convicted Heroin Dealer gives shareholders the needle

Back in April 2013 Range Resources (RRL), then run by Peter Landau agreed to buy International Petroleum Limited, a company stablished and run by convicted heroin dealer Frank Timis. IPT was technically insolvent but Landau was happy to hand over 40% of an enlarged Range share capital to get his hands on this POS and so also loaned International Petroleum $8 million. The cash was repayable of the deal fell through and Range got security over IPT’s Russian assets. The deal fell through. Range has today given us an update on getting the cash back which is truly laughable. It is sheer comedy genius.

The smack dealer Timis was meant to have repaid the $8 million plus 8% interest by April 30th. That has now been extended to 30th November to allow the candyman to sell his Russian and Kazakh assets for $60 million to a mysterious Hong Kong buyer enter the dragon.

Now two things might strike you as odd here.

Fiscal cliff - nothing solved for the dollar

Forgiver the delayed appearance of the December column for me. I have two excuses. The first is that amid all the present buying, goose cooking and mince pie eating I just got a bit snowed under on the work front. But better late than never. Okay. That is a poor excuse. The second is that I wanted to see how dust settled on the US fiscal cliff drama before commenting. It has settled. I comment.
I never really had any doubt about what would happen. Bluster, bluster, last minute compromise and nothing really settled. We have been here before and it seems with increasing regularity there is almost a sense of ennui. Perhaps that is the wrong imagery. A better one is heroin addiction.
