ShareSoc still sticking the knife into shorters not the real villains

I thought that ShareSoc, having ceased taking direction from he who shall not be named, had at last recognised the great job shorters do in exposing frauds and overpromotes. But it seems not. Cliff Weight, a self-confessed shareholder in Burford (BUR), today makes a number of valid points on Neil Woodford’s comeback while still not admitting that ShareSoc is backing a laggardly and non battle-hardened legal claim for Neil’s victims. But it is on Burford where ShareSoc lets its mask slip. Cliff says of the FCA:

The Million Moron March -the Reddit gang decides to buy Metro Bank on Monday

As I noted yesterday members of the OneMillionTradeMarch chatroom on Reddit were voting on which stock to buy en masse at 8 AM on Monday to #burntheshorters. Well there aren’t many shorters to burn in the case of the target pick but & if it rockets the big winners will be fat cat bankers but why stop the facts getting in a way of the narrative?

BREAKING: Reddit Conspiracy to "Fuck the London Stock Exchange" and make the con SYME London's GameStop!

Shares in the outright con Supply@ME Capital (SYME) remain suspended on the London’s Stock Exchange despite its very belated posting of two missing sets of accounts. In my latest letter to the regulators at the FCA I explained why the shares should stay suspended until Supply’s lies in those two accounts are addressed. But here’s another reason, plotters on Reddit are aiming to attempt a mass buying of the shares on Monday, if they are unsuspended, to destroy, what they believe is a massive shorting conspiracy. They think Supply will be the UK’s GameStop, taking down evil hedgies and shorters.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Rejoice! ShareSoc sees the light on evil shorters

A very pleasant email arrives today from Cliff Weight at ShareSoc. I discuss the Damascene conversion of his organisation since the era of he who shall not be named on the matter of shorters and shorting.

2000 Morons who want more fraud on AIM ask parliament to ban shorting

Over on the LSE Asylum they are getting terribly excited about a Parliamentary Petition to ban shorting AIM stocks. If they can just find another 98,000 morons to sign (I’d start with the Frontera (FRR), Quindell (QPP) and Cloudtag (CTAG) shareholder lists) then this idea will be debated. Fraudsters must be praying they do.

ShareSoc's Roger Lawson attacks evil shorters & backs failed regulators as Paysafe shares tumble

Here we go again. Wicked and evil bears launch an attack on a great British company and Roger Lawson of ShareSoc insists he knows better, just like he did with Globo and Blinkx, and attacks the bears. He opines on his blog with three readers:

I did not go into journalism to see small PIs burned but to nail bad guys & I won’t change just to win New World popularity

That New World Oil & Gas (NEW) is an omnishambles is clear. Ben Turney has one route for going forward (see HERE) which has made him the hero of the LSE Asylum and the twitter lynch mob. I regard his actions as morally reprehensible but publish his articles anyway as I support free speech. But his case is both misleading and shocking in that it targets the very folk that I thought he, Brokerman Dan, Nigel Somerville, Malcolm Stacey and others who have written on this website wanted to protect – ordinary punters.

Ben, the asylum and the lynch mob seem to think that those who are now short of New World are wicked shorters. I see comments that it is “my shorting friends”. Au contraire, the professional shorters like Lucian, Matt Earl and Evil have nothing to do with this. Neither are any City brokers running a naked short.

If Ben and his new pals understood how the City works

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - to the New World Lynch Mob: show some compassion, get real & go after the real targets

There is an ugly lynch mob out there - led by Ben Turney - screaming "burn shorter burn". They think those who have opened a vast naked short in New World are evil City banksters & flippers who deserve to burn and who have deliberately wronged. The lynch mob is wrong.  The "shorters" are just ordinary Joe Schmoes many of whom could be ruined by this. I ask the lunatic fringe to show compassion, to do what is best for the company but to go after the real villains of the peace. Show some humanity guys. Get real. And go for the real bad guys.

I have asked Ben to consider the potential human consequences of what he is calling for and I know that I could not live with myself for doing what he is doing. I am not in journalism to ruin little guys who have been daft but to go after the real bad guys, the real crony capitalists who deserve all that they get. I hope that he will take this on board. I shall not censor his copy but I beg him to think through the consequences of what he wishes for.

Why shorting shares is both vital and good for investors and for society

Shorters, or bear raiders, are vilified by the ignorant as destroyers of wealth and of jobs. Some folks want shorting banned. They are wrong. The only people who benefit from banning shorting are crooks, liars and frauds. Capitalism needs shorters for it to work efficiently. Here’s why.

Let me ask you to point out how many PLCs the FCA or before it the FSA ever called out for fraud and had suspended? Er…zippo. The Regulator is a box ticker, an agency of Government and thus, by definition, useless. It would argue that its job is not to seek out fraud but to act on it when shown evidence. That might just be a defence but you then ask who will seek out fraud and thus present the authorities with that evidence?

Occasionally you have a kind hearted soul such as myself who does just that. But the reality is that spending months and months researching a company really is not going to make you rich. The ShareProphets operation generates enough revenue to allow me to spend some time doing such work but I could not afford to do it full time.

And thus the only folks who are going to have enough of a financial incentive to do such work are those in the bear raiding community. It took Gotham City many months to prove up its dossier against Spanish fraud Gowex. Now I know that Daniel Yu gets an intellectual kick
