I know it looks a bit like pooh and the name is somewhat off putting and the fruit look hideous and are only harvested when they are bletted, that is to say rotting. Maybe I am not selling the Nottingham Medlar very well?
Yesterday I scraped out the fruit and stewed what is left. The taste is a bit like apple in custard with a dash of cinnamon, it is amazing. The pulp has some rather large seeds but I shall try not to choke on them as I enjoy a helping each morning this Autumn on my oats and almond milk.
