I have been campaigning about the historic sexual and physical abuse at my old school Warwick since 2011. For years Warwick covered it up and protected the evil men responsible. Two headmasters fobbed me and other victims off and the School had the brass neck to write to all OWS denying that it ever had a problem with sexual abuse. Now I can name a man who it is alleged is the worst paedophile of the lot for in today’s Christmas Eve post is a letter from the Criminal Justice System: Paul Stainsby has been charged.
He stands accused of nine offences. One indecent assault on a boy aged 16, two indecent assaults on boys aged under 16, one act of gross indecency on a boy aged under 14 and six counts of indecent assault on boys aged less than 14.
He will appear in Leamington Magistrates Court on January 23 to enter his plea. There are still things that I cannot write here but the details of the Court hearing are now in the public domain.
Stainsby was a wood and metal work teacher. He organised away weekends for the sailing club and the hovercraft team at which he was the chaperone. And he had a grace and favour residence in what had been the Headmaster’s House adjoining the dorms where boarders slept.
Whilst the Police and the CPS investigated Stainsby I was not able to name him and neither could the School as it might prejudice matters. I could and did name other paedophile teachers, notably David Stuke and Alan Wilkins (both dead) and Charles Watmough who is yet to meet his maker. In all cases Warwick turned a blind eye and whilst the OId Bill interviewed Watmough under caution it refused to prosecute even as more of his victims contacted me and then, at my suggestion, the Police..
But now Warwick can and must open up.
It needs to contact ALL former pupils to make it clear that Stainsby has been charged. The verdict on him cannot be known at this juncture but Warwick can say that other OWs have complained of physical and sexual abuse by other former teachers and it should encourage other victims to come forward.
It is only a few weeks ago that an OW came to me to state that he was a victim of sexual abuse by a Warwick Master when not yet 11. I stress that the alleged perp in that case could not have been Stainsby. I am sure there are others out there who feel they may also have been abused and now Warwick can and must be open to prompt them to come forward.
After 14 years writing about what went on at Warwick and demanding justice for the victims, you might imagine that this news today is the best Christmas present I could have hoped for. I have talked to enough victims of abuse, grown men often in tears, to know how lives have been ruined.
Warwick School now has no excuse what so ever not to open up and relay this news to all of us unlucky enough to have attended the dreadful place in the past. And to those teachers and OWs who have shown hostility to me because of my writings for dragging Warwick’s good name through the mud, I urge that they reflect on this matter. The era of denial and cover ups must surely now be over.
