One of the worst elements of the Warwick School paedophile scandal concerns music teacher Charles Watmough. Not only was the school informed about what he was up to but the Police received a complaint in 2018, interviewed him under caution and then did not take the case forward. At the weekend I published details of a sixth victim HERE but in the wake of the trial of Paul Stainsby and Warwick’s partial ‘fess up to historic sexual abuse HERE the floodgates are bursting. Another OW has been in touch.
He says that boys in his year are now openly discussing what Watmough did to them. In his case, Watmough threatened to pull down the trousers of his younger brother to beat his naked bottom. Thus was no idle threat, the boys were aware that he did actually administer corporal punishment to naked bottoms and did so for his own pleasure. The lad in question here reported this to his mum who promptly pulled both boys out of the individual music lessons they had been receiving from Watmough in the music department, an isolated building at the edge of the school bordering the vast playing fields.
The idea that no teacher at the school knew what was going on just defies belief. The boys taught by Watmough over many years certainly did.
Perhaps the mum cancelled the lessons with Watmough or maybe with David Nichols, Charlie’s line manager, his best friend and another paedophile. In either case you can see why the matter went no further.
There will be more OW’s going to the school and the police about Watmough who left Warwick with glowing references to give private music lessons in his own house in Scarborough. If anything happened there then surely Warwick really would need to face the music.
For how long can the authorities refuse to take action, reopening and widening the old investigation.
