Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: vodka infused plum crumble to celebrate another big vindication, another FRAUD imploding

I discuss what I should write in my weekend Tomograph: losing faith in the CofE or why is sleaze everywhere? That leads neatly onto inflation and that shock US data yesterday. Then I look at the fraud Supply@ME Capital (SYME) where my vindication is complete, and which I can celebrate with vodka infusd plum crumble,  Volex (VLX), Manolete (MANO) and Feedback (FDBK)

Volex – a buy?

Recent results from Volex (VLX) included “over the past year we have continued to deliver on our stated strategy to refresh our customer base and grow our business with both new and existing customers. This has resulted in a significant increase in profitability at Volex, and our group is now in a much stronger position than it has been for many years”. The shares have recovered from sub 50p as recently as early summer 2017 but are down from 100p+ last month to a current 89p offer price. That looks to offer opportunity…

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast 26 Feb: Savile BBC cover up, Beer& Popcorn date with me Sunday & denial at Petroceltic & LGO

I start with Jimmy Savile as I have no apologies for running this yesterday. The BBC enquiry is just another establishment cover up and I explain why. Then it is onto investor denial at Petroceltic (PCI), not at Premaitha (NIPT), but at LGO Energy (LGO). I explain why Volex (VLX) is - and always will be - a shit company. Then I ask Rob Terry and Knob Park to unblock me on twitter as we should all have an online beer and popcorn party late on Sunday when Slater & Gordon (SGH) reports its results. I'll be up to do a special podcast and it will be fun. I hope you'll be joining me and that Rob will unblock me so he can take part too. There is also a brief comment on Nyota (NYO) where the piggery by a useless CEO is about to stop.

Then onto Ascent Resources (AST) - that may surprise you - Oilex (OEX), Rolls Royce (RR), Ubisense (UBI), Communisis (CMS), Spire Health (SPI) and Atlas Developments (ADSS) where flip flop is talking more nonsense.

Tom Winnifrith BearCast 6 October - Mariana symptomatic of investor exploitation on AIM

I am not picking on Mariana Resources too much. Okay I am and did so HERE. But the point in this podcast is to show how the actions of Mariana in destroying shareholder value while the crony capitalists plunder and profit are just symptomatic of how AIM works as a whole. I also cover Stanley Gibbons (SGI), Paragon Entertainment (PEL), the scumbags at Mosman Oil & Gas (MSMN), Iofina (IOF), BTG (BTG) and Volex (VLX).

Then I give a good kicking to tosser Dragons Den star Piers Linney and his POS company Outsourcery (OUT)

A director share trade is not always a signal for you to trade– ref Interquest, Volex & Quindell

The conventional wisdom is that you should follow the “insiders” that is the board in terms of buying and selling shares. Sometimes the conventional wisdom is wrong. We can start with buys.

A director share buy is only significant if it is truly material in terms of the net wealth and salary of that director. Looking at many director buys I almost think they are tantamount to market abuse. They are not material and their sole aim appears to be to support the share price. One might refer to the serial Quindell (QPP) buys announced a day at a time after Gotham as a case in point. This was nothing more than an exercise in PR – the willingness of any of those buying back in April 2014 to subsequently dump all their shares at far lower prices clearly demonstrates that.

Volex is avin a bubble with grossly misleading RNS – it’s all about (lack of) cash generation

I have noted before on a number of occasions that Volex (VLX) is obsessed with spin and share price promotion but that its market cap (£59 million at 65p) is just a total Rum and coke. A grotesquely misleading RNS today only highlights the big problem with this enterprise: (lack of) cash generation.

Tom Winnifrith’s ninth share tip of the year – sell Volex

To lose one director in December is unfortunate but to lose two looks like carelessness but that is what Volex (VLX) managed, parting company with its FD after just 18 months in the job and with a well-respected NED – with immediate effect - on New Year’s eve. The truth is that this is just not a very good company - my pal Paul Scott put it more succinctly the other day in an enthusiastic daily Stockopedia report. At 70.5p, capitalised at £64 million it is a slam dunk sell.

Volex – ramping Research, Odd Director buying and a ludicrous valuation

This just looks all wrong. Even based on the numbers in the latest paid for PR piffle (I mean in-depth research note) from Edison, shares in Volex (VLX) are at 80p ludicrously overvalued. The very odd behaviour of the directors makes this smell even worse.

My pal Paul Scott has noted for a while that Volex commissions all sorts of research from folks like Edison and GE&CR urging mug punters to buy and that the research really is very fourth rate. Anyone who had followed the advice of the prostitutes of the analyst’s world (give us the money and we will say BUY) would have lost out. The company is right now half way through a $32 million rescue placing and open offer.

The placing is underwritten but the directors seem keen that the open offer at 75p is taken up. And so we have seen a raft of directors proud to announce to the market in recent days that they have bought shares at 80p and above. WTF?
