Photo article from the Greek Hovel - calling all olive harvesters for a pre Christmas treat

Veteran olive harvesters will look at the photos below and know that the 2022 harvest will not be a very good one. It will not be terrible as things stand though there is still time for an act of God intervention such as a severe windstorm. But it will not be great. Thus it is uneconomic to hire Albanians to assist with the harvest. So how do you, dear readers, fancy being an Albanian. Here’s the deal.

Veteran T is coming back for a second stint as he enjoyed his first harvest so much. I shall be there for my 8th harvest. If R&S are able to come back they can have the master bedroom and I will sleep on the sofa upstairs. That leaves one bunk bed (with heavy snoring T having the other) and one room with a double bed. By harvest time all rooms will have modern toilets. And at harvest time, the snakes are hibernating. Accomodation is free and I shall have a hire car. We have lunch up at the hovel ( where the pool will be closed) and dine  and drink in the village.

This year’s harvest might – with a full crew – take 5 days – a lot depends on the weather. Harvesting if it rains is not much fun. But I shall be there for ten days starting early December. I am negotiating exact dates with the management here in Wales. It is hard work but you will enjoy the experience.
