Photo article from the Welsh Hovel - plum vodka for the Mrs

My friend N has lent me her apple picker, a tall pole with a basket at the top. With an apple scratter now bought I will do a small test harvest of apples from the old orchard by the river tomorrow, with a view to pressing some juice. Those apples are starting to drop so some are clearly ripe. Meanwhile I have made a a little something for the Mrs…

There are two old plum trees in the vegetable garden. One had already dropped a light harvest by the time I got back from Greece. But Joshua and I picked a stack of fruit from the other, those are the small dark plums. Meanwhile, younger trees in the new orchard I planyed are starting to bear red and yellow coloured fruit.  Mixed together as you can see below from half way through the proicess, sugar is added and the jars are filled with vodka. About a litre and a half of vodka should be ready for the Mrs to decant in mid November allowing me to use the plums in a very alocholic crumble and in making a couple of Christmas puddings.
