Women’s Super League football attendance dishonesty ( again)

Record attendance at WSL game scream all the newspaper headlines after the Arsenal Spurs derby yesterday. Arsenal itself tweets out a picture of the crowd and of a big screen boasting of 53,737 tickets sold.  Well all up to a point..

The stadium in question holds 60,260 but looks to have a lot of empty seats in the tweet from the Arse.  That is because, in fact, only 47,367 folks turned up. In other words the stadium was almost a quarter empty.

It seems odd that 6,000 folks bought a ticket then did not bother to show. Until you discover that most seats for an Arsenal women’s game are priced at just £7.65. In other words not buying a return tube journey probably saves you more than that wasted ticket. For the men’s games where the stadium will be sold out tickets range from £24 (a few) to £99 a pop.

Now tell me we are comparing apples with apples not with pears.

But in 2024/1984 we are not allowed to say this are we?
