On Friday, after Matt Western, the Labour MP for Warwick & Leamington declined to do anything about historic sexual abuse at Warwick School and the cover up which protected offenders, I was almost tempted to give up. But encouraged by a couple of OWs I have gone into battle yet again. For this matter affects victims not just in Warwick. I do not now how long I shall live, but I have been battling for fourteen years (not twelve as stated below) to get Warwick School’s massive historic abuse issue out into the open, so there is no way I am giving up now. This, and a couple of stockmarket fraudsters where there is unfinished businesses, are battles I shall see through to the end. Mine or theirs!
The school received complaints back in the 80s and 90s about at least one offender but failed to act on those complaints. I am sure that other teachers were aware of the paedophiles among them. But nobody spoke out. Instead, Warwick gave all concerned glowing references. So Charles Watmough was able to move to Scarborough to give private piano lessons in his home to young boys. I have doorstepped and named him. The now dead Alan Wilkins moved to Harrogate to carry on teaching and heaven knows what else? And the man I cannot name, Mr X, almost certainly the worst offender, also got another teaching job.
So, this scandal affects not just victims in Warwick but almost certainly victims elsewhere thanks to the way Warwick School protected teachers who engaged in both sexual abuse and also folks like my own tormentor Geoffrey Eve who were just sadists who got a kick out of beating up little boys.
I would have thought that the cover up and the scale of historic abuse is exactly why Western would be actively campaigning to get the CPS to state what is happening with regards to Mr X given that it has been sitting on witness statements for up to four years. But Western says he cannot do anything about a massive scandal at the heart of his constituency because I have raised it and live near Wrexham and so must contact my local MP. Western mis-reads the rules. Convention has it that an MP can only help his own constituent with a problem. But if an MP is alerted to a big problem in his constituency by someone living elsewhere he is perfectly entitled to take up the matter, indeed that is what he should be doing. A point I have again made to Western today in an email exchange with his office.
Western says I should get my MP, Labour’s Andrew Ranger, here in Wrexham to assist. So I have written to Ranger, cc’ing in the wretched Western. I wrote (with a name and number and an address redacted) below:

I have been campaigning about history physical and sexual abuse at my old school Warwick for more than 12 years. The school has finally acknowledged that there was a problem with physical abuse but not with sexual abuse. Although it only came clean about the worst offender, the man who twice threw my head against the wall, in a limited way and only after the man died.
My campaigning about physical abuse issues via my personal website www.TomWinnifrith.com meant that a number of victims of sexual abuse came forward. Some had already contacted Warwickshire Police, others had not and I put them in touch with xxxxx xxxx at Leamington Police Station ( tel xxxxxxx)
On my website I have named two dead paedophiles and one who is alive but who the CPS will not prosecute despite 5 victims having come forward. I doorstepped him and in naming him prompted another of his victims to come forward to go to the Police who seem to have done nothing. In the case of this man, Charles Watmough, a mother of a boy at Warwick made a formal complaint about his abuse. Warwick did nothing and when he left he was given glowing references allowing him to go on to work giving private piano lessons to kids in Scarborough. That is indicative of Warwick’s historic complicity.
The worst suspected offender is a man now convicted elsewhere so a proven paedophile.
7 of his victims have given statements to the Police with most given in 2021. But the CPS is simply sitting on this. One of the victims gave up waiting for justice and has killed himself.
This man was resident at the heart of the school and I am sure had many more victims. I was not a victim of him but was aware of his behaviour and have given my evidence to Warwickshire Police. But as the CPS dithers neither I or the School can name him which would, I am sure prompt many more victims to come forward not just of this man but of other teachers. For Warwick had a culture of covering up and protecting abusers, always giving glowing references so they could go elsewhere to abuse.
