Photo article from the Welsh Hovel - Nettle Beer

It is about twelve litres in all and yesterday I decanted the first nettle beer run of the year. The bottles should be ready for Sharestock this weekend but I may well hold back a few for personal use. There is a sweet honeyed taste and I could really get quite into making the stuff. Picking the nettles is a bit of a pain but there is no shortage of them here. And given the price of a pint of normal beer in the Peel of Bells..

The Field Number 2 - My father & the one armed bell ringer

My father says that he remembers the name of the man who liberated goldfish, hastening their swim to meeting their maker: it was Mr Hutt. Winnifrith Senior 1 Alzheimer's nil. This surprising defeat of the Alzheimer's creates a long discussion, was that Fred Hutt or was Fred his brother or indeed related at all. Fred, who I am sure was not the goldfish liberator and who I am far from certain was a Hutt, but was certainly called Fred enters my memories of Byfield for two main reasons: he had only one arm and he was a bell ringer at the Church.

As its #WorldVegetarianday for lunch I enjoyed a juicy...

Crab and lobster burger did nicely for me. But as it was world vegetarian day I also pinched a bit of bacon from the plate of the Mrs. Tonight I am not sure what we are having but it will not be rabbit food.

Not a reporter so I can have another beer

As I posted a last few photos on line I started chatting to three chaps on the table next to me in the café. Like half the folks in Athens these days  they were reporters, photo journalists actually, here for the referendum. They have deadlines. They have to get up at 6 AM (4 AM your time) to capture the polls opening at 7 AM.

Me? I have no such deadlines. I comment. So I have no deadlines. You can get the photos and bland coverage anywhere. I can’t hope to trump that. I comment and observe. I don’t report.

So I can have another beer. Then snore soundly tonight and wander along to a polling station whenever I want. Whose life seems more attractive?

Real Man Pizza Goes 100 Per Cent Curious Today

The pumps were installed on Friday and tested at the weekend and today Real Man Pizza Company abandons the sale of fizzy Euro-pop lager and goes 100% Curious. That is to say the only beers we now sell are Curious Brew (lager) and Curious IPA ( dark beer) brewed by our friends at Chapel Down in Tenterden. Using Sussex barley but with the yeast from the Chapel Down “champagne” recycled into the vat, these beers are award winning.

I am always happy to support a small entrepreneurial business rather than a faces corporate monolith and the fact that these beers actually taste better is a bonus. As if the menu and wine list was not enough, this is yet another reason to pop on down to Real Man Pizza Company today…
