Peter Tatchell lives in an Orwellian post truth world when it comes to Russia and the Zaporizhzia nuclear power plant

As you can see below, Peter Tatchell blames President Putin for a drone strike on the Zaporizhzia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, saying it risks a nuclear catastrophe and is a war crime. Folks have flocked to like his tweet.  Those fucking Russians is there nothing they will not do….except…

This particular plant has been in Russian hands for two years. The vast majority of those still living in the Oblast are Russian speakers. It was roughly 50/50 in 2001 but since 2014 and especially since the war started many Ukrainian speakers have, understandably, left. It is Ukraine which has been using drones far more than Russia in the war. So why on earth would Russia not only strike a plant in an area populated by Russians but also raise the alarm?

The Ukrainians naturally say this is a false flag operation by the Russians. But common sense suggests that striking your own nuclar plant is a false flag too far. And why do Russians need false flags when they are winning the war, advancing – albeit slowly and at a huge cost – on all fronts against an opponent which is much smaller and is now quite simply running out of fighting men. At this juncture Russia has no need for a false flag, Ukraine as it begs for arms and money has every reason to try and finger the Russians for a nuclear disaster, better still one that will, overwhelmingly, kill Russian speakers.

In the fog of war nobodyy knowns the truth. But in flagging up an article which clearly does not say it was the evil Russians and then making his claim, Tatch does nobody any favours. This is just part of a collective denial. If it emerges that Ukraine was responsible, will Tatch demand that President Zelensky be arrested for war crimes? I doubt it.
