The National Trust fires 550 staff: I stand in defence of Rachel Reeves

If something goes wrong with your organisation it is all too easy to blame it all on Rachel Reeves. She is useless, out of her depth and now just an object of ridicule. I do hope that all those journalists who lined up to sing her praises a year ago specifically because she was “Britain’s first female chancellor” now realise that ability not diversity is what matters when hiring. But for once I write in defence of the CV embellishing Rachel from Customer Services.

The National Trust, a body where my grandfather Sr John Winnifrith was once in charge, is to make 550 staff redundant saying that employers NI hikes have created a ten million quid black hole in its accounts. Clearly higher costs cannot have helped but the National Trust has, as I have highighted here over many years, a bigger problem. Go woke go broke.

Its insistance on ramming an LGBTQ and BLM agenda down our throats, often on the basis of excruciatingly bad historical evidence, has alienated folks who in years gone by would have been generous donors and left bequests in their wills. Grandpa, a good socialist, thought that the Trust was there to save historic buildings and ancient lands and to allow ordinary folks access to them at affordable prices. That is what it was set up to do, not to lecture us on a trans agenda, on global waming or why everything British is racist and we should be ashamed of almost every aspect of our National story.

But that is what the Trust has become, a hectoring campaigner for a Guardian derived agenda.

I am not going to support such lunacy so I am not a member and nor do I visit its proprties as I once used to. When I pop my clogs it will not get a cent. The core support for the Trust has always been overwhelmingly small c conservatve and we are an aging group. The Trust can campaign in a way that may attract purple haired and bearded 20 somethings with a degree in gender studies and LGBT history but they do not have the money of we crusties.

And thus for the second time in a few years the Trust is issuing P45s to loyal staff. It may blame Ms Reeves but that is only to deflect from its own incompetence. A well managed organisation listening to its core supporters would have been able to deal with higher staff costs. But as it causes Grandpa to spin in his grave on a regular basis with each new woke outburst, the Trust cannot be said to be well managed any more.

It is the architect of its own misfortunes. Bookmark this page for the next round of P45s in a few years time.
