Fever Pitch in the War Against Israel, a superb essay by Melanie Phillips

I am not Jewish but in two articles today HERE and HERE  I demonstrate the malice, the poison directed at those of us who dare suggest support for Israel. If this was a propaganda war, Hamas would have won hands down and that has consequences.

In a brlliant essay today Melanie Phillips shows just how our political and media class are now brazenly lying about what is happening in Gaza. It is superb. Enjoy.

Good news at last for Britain’s terminally unpopular Starmer government! It’s finally gained some enthusiastic supporters!!

Hamas. Yay!

A statement by Britain’s Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, and the foreign ministers of 27 other countries (plus some EU functionary or other) has drawn public plaudits from the blood-soaked terrorists. They paused from declaring their intention to wipe out all these countries in order to applaud them for this truly deranged statement — whose lies, distortions and malevolence towards Israel could have been dictated by the genocidists of Gaza themselves.

Here’s what the foreign ministers said that got Hamas purring.

The Israeli government’s aid delivery model is dangerous, fuels instability and deprives Gazans of human dignity.

Rub your eyes. The “Israeli government’s aid delivery model” — the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation which is actually run by the Americans and supervised by the IDF — is the only means of reliably getting food to Gaza’s civilians rather than it being stolen by Hamas. The GHF has supplied more than 80 million meals to Gazan civilians. There are actually videos on social media of Gazans cheering the IDF and thanking them for the first food they’ve received that’s free. So what on earth are Britain and the rest talking about?

We condemn the drip feeding of aid and the inhumane killing of civilians, including children, seeking to meet their most basic needs of water and food. The Israeli government’s denial of essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population is unacceptable. Israel must comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law.

What “drip feeding of aid”? What Israeli “denial of essential humanitarian assistance”? Israel has supplied 1,863,357 tons of aid to Gaza. The IDF’s aid division COGAT says that recently close to 4,500 trucks entered Gaza with supplies, including flour for bakeries and 2,500 tons of baby food and high calorie special food for children.

There are currently around 950 humanitarian aid trucks that have crossed into Gaza but are just sitting there because the UN and its proxies can’t or won’t distribute their contents. The GHF has pleaded with the UN to collaborate with it in the major task of distributing aid throughout Gaza. The UN is simply refusing to do so.

It’s Hamas that’s been stealing the food and other aid for its own use, causing Gazan civilians to go hungry; it’s Hamas that’s been murdering Gazans for collecting food supplies from the GHF because Hamas knows that if it can’t steal the aid for itself, it’s finished.

Of course the IDF don’t deliberately kill Gazans queuing for food. Why on earth would they do that, since they’ve set up and are policing an entire infrastructure to deliver it to them?

Hamas, on the other hand, have killed hundreds of Gazan civilians for receiving food supplies. Where some Gazan civilians have been killed by the IDF around the food queues, this has clearly been an accidental result of the soldiers firing into the air to warn off these possibly Hamas-infiltrated crowds if they look like they’re about to rush the Israeli troops.

Yet Lammy and the other foreign ministers make zero reference to Hamas stealing the aid and zero reference to Hamas killing Gazan civilians. Instead they blame Israel. Why have they perpetrated this blood libel? Do they actually know this is the reverse of the truth? Do they realise it makes no sense? Are they playing some cynical game? Are they capable of any intelligent thought processes at all? Or are their minds just totally poisoned by hatred of Israel?

Proposals to remove the Palestinian population into a “humanitarian city” are completely unacceptable. Permanent forced displacement is a violation of international humanitarian law.

What “permanent forced displacement”? The IDF are proposing to move Gazan civilians to a place of relative safety during this war so that Israel can finish off Hamas.Which is something the foreign ministers strangely appear to want to prevent.

It’s surely no coincidence that this statement sounds like a set of Hamas talking points. The IDF says it’s now in the final push for total victory over Hamas in Gaza. Enabling the Gazans to obtain food and other aid cuts off Hamas below the knees and is the surest way to bring about its final defeat. So Hamas is throwing everything it can into undermining the GHF.

It needs to have the aid distributed instead by the UN and the NGOs under the UN’s umbrella because these bodies work hand-in-glove with Hamas. That’s why, in the farcical “ceasefire” talks, it’s insisting that the UN and Palestine Red Crescent control the aid coming into Gaza.

On the ground, Hamas is undermining the GHF operation by murdering and terrorising Gazans. But it’s most valuable army is formed by the UN, its satellite “humanitarian” bodies and the western media which are defaming and delegitimising Israel with lies.

And right on cue, the UN has now accused Israel of truly diabolical behaviour.

UN officials claim that “more than 1000 desperate Palestinians” trying to reach GHF food supplies have been killed by Israeli forces since the end of May. No mention whatever of the mass killings of these Gazans by Hamas.

More than 100 aid agencies have warned that “mass starvation” is spreading across Gaza, accusing Israel of not allowing food inside the Strip to be distributed. The agencies say they “are witnessing their own colleagues and partners waste away before their eyes”. Yesterday, the Hamas-run health ministry said that 33 people had died of malnutrition in 48 hours.

Really? Starving people look like the Israeli hostage who was released from his Gaza dungeon and shocked people by his skeletal appearance. Have you seen the pictures of Gazans? Do they look like they’re starving? Or do they look plump and well fed?

Pictures of very sick babies tell you nothing except that these are very sick babies. There may well be hunger in places — but that’s because Hamas steals the food and the UN refuses to distribute it so that it can accuse Israel of “starvation” unless Hamas regains its power over both the aid and the people.

The UN is far from being an honest broker in all this. On the contrary, its agenda is to destroy Israel through demonisation and delegitimisation. It employs out-and-out Jew-haters in key positions; it rigs its agenda year in, year out to single out Israel for denunciation and harassment; and it has employed thousands of Hamas operatives on its UNRWA pay roll.

The statement by Lammy and the other foreign ministers, for whom the UN’s word is holy writ, accordingly reads like UN-laundered Hamas propaganda aimed at casting Israel — the target and victim of genocidal attack — as a monstrous and murderous entity,

Accordingly, the foreign ministers also claim “settler violence against Palestinians has soared”. “Settler violence” is the latest group libel du jour based on lies, half-truths and distortions of a complex situation that has been turned into a rich additional source of Israel demonisation.

In the past few days, the charge that “settlers” had set fire to a ruined Byzantine church in the Christian village of Taybeh has been shown to be a lie. US Ambassador Mike Huckabee, who previously visited the church when he described the reported arson attack as “absolute terrorism” and declared “desecrating a church, mosque or synagogue is a crime against humanity and God,” has now walked that back and acknowledged that the church was undamaged — as was always entirely obvious from its undamaged stone walls. The police say the fire was “limited to an adjacent open area”. Yet the claim that the church was burned by “violent settlers” was promoted heavily by local priests and activists — and the Jews have once again been viciously libelled by a lie that ricocheted around the world.

In another recent incident in the disputed territories, a 20 year-old “Palestinian-American” was killed during a fracas between Jews and local Arabs. The Times of Israel reported claims that the young man was beaten by “settlers” and died hours later after Israeli troops allegedly prevented medical help from reaching him.

But Israel Resource Review reported that a group of Arabs, accompanied by well-known anarchists and extreme left-wing activists, had attacked Jewish shepherds, burning and destroyed equipment and a Bible and leaving two of the shepherds injured. The Arab news agency Wafa had reported that the attack was planned in advance by local Arabs whose goal was to storm the place in order to “remove an outpost”.

There is indeed a problem with a small minority of delinquent youths among the Jewish residents of the disputed territories of Judea and Samaria who attack their Arab neighbours in both revenge and unprovoked attacks. These are totally reprehensible and should be dealt with.

However, these are dwarfed by the number of attacks by local Arabs on these Jewish communities. As the Israeli NGO Regavim has shown in this report, some 90 per cent of incidents of “settler violence” claimed in recent years by the UN were fabricated. Some were even totally peaceful, unobjectionable activities such as civilian hikes or infrastructure work. Other cases involved anti-Israel provocations orchestrated by Palestinian and foreign left-wing activist groups, some of which involved “terror attacks by Arabs against settlers that ended with the injury or elimination of the attacker”. In other words, the Jews had fought back in self-defence — and this was classified as “settler violence”.

Yet the foreign ministers, whose personal ignorance of the situation on the ground is absolute, ignored all this in order to hit the Jews with yet another gross libel to show how evil they are. And then they rounded all this off with a threat:

We are prepared to take further action to support an immediate ceasefire.

An immediate ceasefire means Hamas would remain able to regroup and recover in order to slaughter more Israelis and take more of them hostage. And now Lammy and the rest are threatening Israel that they will punish it if it doesn’t surrender.

No wonder Hamas welcomed this statement. Its very publication will encourage Hamas to hold out for victory and thus prolong the war and the suffering.

Not content with this utter travesty, Lammy went on BBC Breakfast to announce that he was “sickened” and “appalled” — not by Hamas but by Israel, whose actions were “grotesque”.

Does Lammy actually believe the falsehoods and blood libels he has been promulgating? Does he ever bother to find out anything for himself, or does he just regurgitate what he is spoon-fed by the Jew-baiting, UN-Hamas-human rights-NGO-Foreign Office echo-chamber? Are these people wicked, or just really, really stupid?

The BBC itself has become simply unhinged. Utterly obsessed by Israel to the near exclusion of the rest of the world, it returns almost daily to the attack with yet more fusillades of eye-watering falsehoods, distortions, unacknowledged use of extremist sources and gross decontextualisation.

Casting what remains of its journalistic principles to the four winds, its behaviour in recent days suggests it’s become positively giddy at what it believes to be now the end game for Israel as BBC journalists join forces with their interviewees to kick its head in.

On July 18, BBC Today (around 1 hr 35 minutes in) broadcast a long interview with Professor Nick Maynard, a British surgeon who has been volunteering in Gaza hospitals for years.

Maynard came out with claims that sounded as grotesque and loony as the medieval blood libels about Jews killing children to drink their blood. He said teenage Gazan boys queueing for food were being shot by Israeli troops or by Israeli-operated “quadcopter” drones.

Colleagues had told him, he said, that on particular days they would see particular body parts that the Israeli troops had targeted: one day there’d be abdominal gunshot wounds, another day head or neck wounds, on another day arm or leg wounds. The previous Saturday. four young teenage boys had been brought in all with gunshot wounds to their testicles. He said:

So they’re clearly being targeted. It’s almost as if a game is being played, they’re deciding to shoot the head today and the neck tomorrow and the testicles the day after.

Think about that. Is it really likely? Even if you believe that the Israelis are devils, is it likely that the IDF, positioned a distance away from these milling and chaotic Gazan crowds, would even be able to aim accurately enough to play this infernal “game”?

Israel vehemently denied these charges. It said it didn’t even operate quadcopter drones in this war, and it never deliberately shot Gazan civilians trying to obtain food; its rules of engagement specifically forbade firing into the crowds.

Maynard also claimed that no baby formula was coming in because the Israelis were stopping the aid, so babies were dying from malnutrition as result.

But as the Israelis said:

Despite recent claims, there is no ban or restriction on the entry of baby formula or baby food into Gaza.In fact, over 2,000 tons of baby food and infant formula have recently been facilitated, including specialized formula for infants with specific needs.

Anna Foster, the BBC reporter interviewing Maynard, could hardly suppress her excitement. All that journalists like her ever got from the Israelis were statements that such claims were Hamas propaganda! But here, in the person of surgeon Maynard, was actual evidence of Israeli atrocities!

Except, of course, this wasn’t actual evidence at all. For how did he know these terrible injuries had been caused by the IDF rather than by Hamas? He couldn’t possibly know that. All he could know was the injuries he was treating, not who had caused them.

Yet this didn’t dent his certainty that the Israelis were shooting Gazan boys for sport. He knew this was so, he said, because the victims had told him, their families had told him, and Gazan medics who he’d worked with for 15 years and totally trusted had told him. So there was “no doubt about it”.

But there must be some doubt about Maynard’s reliability as a witness. In January last year, he told the Telegraph that he had never seen any evidence of Hamas activity in al Shifa hospital where he had mainly worked.

Yet the Israelis conclusively proved last year that al Shifa was a major terrorist hub; they arrested more than 500 in and around the hospital who belonged to Hamas or other terror groups. One of these, the Islamic Jihad spokesman Tariq Salami Otha Abu Shlouf, told his interrogators that terror operatives use “all hospitals in the Gaza Strip” and that he had used the al Shifa hospital compound and medical equipment for terrorist purposes.

Three days after the Maynard interview, Today broadcast another item in its key 0810 slot which not only repeated the claims of Israeli starvation, killings and so on but was now infused with a palpable sense of excitement that the net was fast closing in upon the monstrous Israelis.

With the sole exception of a brief clip of the Israeli politician Fleur Hassan-Nahoum protesting that there could hardly be starvation in Gaza with millions of tons of aid being delivered, Today’s journalists and their interviewee of the day Emily Thornberry, who chairs the Commons Foreign Affairs Committee, all agreed that “there’s a reckoning that’s coming,” that Israel’s crimes would soon be revealed when the war eventually ended and that the time was now right to declare a state of Palestine.

The question of where this state would actually be, who would run it and whether there was in fact any “Palestinian” leadership that was not committed to the extermination of Israel and mass murder of the Jews was of course never raised.

The unmistakeable message of all this from politicians and journalists is that the Israelis are evil, even demonic. The results of this message are as predictable as they are horrifying.

In the past few days a woman dining at a Jewish restaurant in London was asked if she was a Jew by a woman who then threw food over her; an orthodox Jewish man was chased down the street for being a Jew; a well-known Jewish personality reported she was chased down another street by a man shouting “fascist Zionist scum”; a doctor who had been suspended for posting Holocaust denial and antisemitism on social media was given her practising licence back; a cast member at the Royal Opera House unfurled a Palestinian flag on stage during the curtain call of Il Trovatore: on LBC, presenter James O’Brien read out a listener’s Islamo-Nazi libel that Jews taught their children “one Jewish life was worth thousands of Arab lives and that Arabs were cockroaches,” causing O’Brien to muse that “teaching children death and cruelty starts young;” and in the Commons a Labour MP, Tahir Ali, asked: “Will the Foreign Secretary send military personnel to protect Palestinians from the genocide being committed by the IDF?” To which Lammy responded by saying that he recognised “the strength of feeling that my honourable friend conveys to the Chamber”.

Antisemitism is now widely dismissed as a bogus claim of victimhood used by Jews to sanitise the crimes of Israel. “Zionism” is considered to be on a par with racism, bigotry and harassment. Defending Israel with facts and evidence is met with incredulity. The brainwashing is total. The repudiation of reason is terrifying. A great evil has engulfed Britain and much of the west. They have chosen barbarism over civilisation.
