This year I hope to celebrate my 13th wedding anniversary. Who would have thought it? Do my skills as a chef offset my numerous failings or is my wife just a saint? This was date night last week: poached salmon in dill and lemon, lightly cooked tomatoes and samphire. And to drink? Home made elderflower champagne – it has been a good year on that front.
I have promised a few photos of the gardens here at the Welsh Hovel which now look spectacular. Thus weekend I will try my best.
In terms of harvesting, this evening the kids and I shall be picking all the blackcurrants, a bumper crop, to make jam and ice cream. The loganberry bush I planted two years ago has a decent crop but not enough for ice cream thus year. But this week should also see us pick enough strawberries for making ice cream. Rhubarb bushes have now been cleared from a forest of weeds and rhubarb and ginger jam, and ice cream is on the agenda for thus coming weekend as well as elderflower ice cream with, already made, home made cordial.
