The Labour Candidate in Gorton & Denton comes from one of my favourite places on earth

While stressing that she is a Mancunian, the Labour candidate in the forthcoming by election in Gorton & Denton in fact comes from a place in Greece which is home to one of my favourite spots on earth, the bridge at Arta which contains the remains of the daughter of the man who built it.

Why on earth anyone would move from Arta to the slums of Manchester baffles me. I visited Arta for the first time with my late Dad as a boy. The last time I was there was with my son Joshua, t
hen aged 4 as you can see HERE

The time before was in 2013 and was the first time that the Mrs made a photo appearance on this website as you can see HERE

My money is on Ms Angeliki Stogia coming third in the contest although I am not sure whether it is Reform or the Greens who will win. I’m still baffled as to how anyone could leave Arta which is in Northern Greece on the back road up to Ioannina and onto Vlach country, hence my father’s interest.

Most folks who visit Greece go only to the Islands and Athens. Ast a stretch they might, with good reason, visit Delphi, Corinth, Epidavros or Olympia but there is so much more to Greece than that. Though my house in Greece is in the far South, whenever I visit I year to go on a road trip up to the North via Missolonghi and Arta and Ioannina and up to Zitza and onto Metsovo, the Vlachs and Anelion.
