Photo Article: Every night is preserving night at the Welsh Hovel now

What you see below are radishes from the garden pickled in a sweet and sour South East Asian source. They will be served up at Sharestock but with another, larger, jar to pickle tonight and one other done a few weeks ago, this should also last the family through to Christmas. And that was not the only preserving.

As happens every night a tray of fruit went into the freezer to flash freeze: this time plums. And other plums were stewed for freezing to be used for autumn breakfasts. The plum tree is now down to heavily ripe fruit so what is not harvested by the weekend will drop and rot.

Meanwhile a bowl of blackberries was covered with jamming sugar and already today that has been turned into five pots of jam.

Tonight? More plums for freezing and stewing whilst windfall aplpes will become chutney. Meanwhile I have a glut of tomates which I need to start canning and the pears need juicing.
