Absolutely Loving Hating Peter Tatchell

I challenge even those who dislike Peter Tatchell, who loathe his methods or who just don’t like homosexuals, to watch this film and not come away from it both liking and admiring the man. Those of us who think that that day, just over 50 years ago, when Peter arrived in Britain to escape being drafted by Australia to fight in Vietnam, was a very fortuitous day, for it has given us a true national treasure, start in a different place. Wherever you start, I suggest you go to Netflix as I did yesterday for a most riveting film.

The placard below comparing the Jews to the Nazis was hoisted at the pro Palestine march in London yesterday. Nobody on the march appeared offended. So many of them hate all Jews that they are happy with such sickening words. Mayor Khan says that thanks to Covid and the wicked Tories front line services in London are threatened by a funding crisis. So natch, what do you do about it but organise a virtual conference on the slave trade and looking at what it means for today’s society. This sort of thing might appeal to a few middle class intellectuals but I suspect that most ordinary Londoners, black or white, would rather have the cash spent on those threatened front line services. But it gets far worse because evil Sadiq is once again rewriting history as is his wont.

I cannot but help think that underneath it all Sadiq Khan is a pretty decent fellow. And all too often, as on knife crime in stab City, he is blamed unfairly for the manifest failings of others. But he does have a penchant for wasting other folks cash on pointless virtue signalling, such as the survey showing how racist cycling was, and when it comes to free speech he does apply a bit of a double standard. Not even mentioning Father’s Day, which she will no doubt forget tomorrow, my Islington based daughter Olaf honoured us with a visit to the boonies and Bristol yesterday. She was checking out the University in an open day and has decided that if things don’t go the right way at a proper seat of learning on the M40 she will, like all the other Oxbridge rejects, come here.  Having checked out the University and come away really impressed she met up with myself, the Mrs and Joshua for lunch.
